Red Energy Denying Solar Tariff

I have had solar installed for over 6 years; was with Origin for a few years and powershop also, with no tariff issues. But Red is telling me that according to their database from Essential, my meter is not solar ready??? I called Essential energy to confirm and they informed me my meter was set up for solar feed in.
It has been 6 months and I have yet to receive a bill. I did contact them with this issue back in September and was told they would look into it but I never heard back. I became concerned when I did not get a bill after 4 months and contacted them again. I was told I would have a bill in 2 weeks, that was December 28th. I called again yesterday only to be told I would get a bill in a week but it would not include the solar feed in.

What can I do?

I informed the Red energy rep I would not pay the bill if my solar feed in was not included. Red tried to tell me I had to get paperwork from my installer to essential to get the database updated; which according to essential is a lie. My installer says they submit paperwork on new installs only, not for previous installs. Essential says that tariffs are between suppliers and consumers. How do I fight this? Power ombudsman?

  • 100% go to ombudsman.

    Prob only way it will get sorted.

    Exactly this situation is happening to me, also with red energy and essential as the distributor. Haven’t had a bill since august, becoming a joke

      At some stage if the outstanding bill gets too old you wouldn't have to pay it anymore

        • Doesn’t that only apply to Victoria? I am NSW.

        • We're both NSW (Essential Energy), not sure if they also have a timeline cap?

          Sequence of events are exactly the same as OP
          The distributor Essential Energy tried to blame my solar installer for not completing the paperwork, but luckily he sent me the internal email from Essential Energy confirming my new connection with solar generation. The back end has been fixed but doesn't explain why my previous retailers would pay me for solar feed if 'I didn't have solar'.

          I now have wait 20 days now for Red to 'reconnect' my power as it may require re-configuration of the meter…

            @bloom: They most certainly do.

            Back when I lived in Sydney, I didn't get a bill for the whole time I lived in a place - simply because the distributor lost the initial metre read. They could not bill me without it. After 12 months they can't do anything and so I didn't have a bill.

  • What can I do?

    Easier thing is to pick a different retailer then, as Reds/Essential database isn't correct.

    If they have the wrong/old meter number then it might be the cause. Also explains why you haven't got a bill since the meter itself is wrong.

    Start with EWON but I'd be looking to change to anyone else more competent.
