  • Serious question, the kinetic power indicator means motivation to move your body more?

    • It can be, or just a indicator of remaining power, which if low, requires movement to charge the battery

      • Up and down movement?

        • +1

It's the same as automatic swinging the circular pendulum weight inside

any slight movement will move it, so no worries if you just wear it like normal

plus this has 1 month reserve unlike automatics 1-3 days

        • Yes, use the hand the watch is on. Safety is paramount so make sure there is adequate lubrication. A twisting motion whilst going and down will provide optimal charging of the battery,

  • @WatchNerd, any good?

    • +2

I'm good thanks haha. But seriously it's a Seiko JDM with sapphire lens & Aus 3yr warranty so if you like it buy 1st think later. Stock is very low.

      Youtube review here and here.

    • I am not a watch nerd, but I have this and another black dial seiko kinetic watch. If you have any quations, feel free to ask me :)

  • This is a very pretty watch, the method of power - is it another variant of movement power - like an automatic watch? Sorry for the dumb question, I am not the most intense watch enthusiast

    • +5

It's an automatic winder strapped onto a battery/capacitor which powers a quartz movement - imagine a wind up flashlight.

      • That makes perfect sense, thank you for explaining!

    • it's the union of the accuracy of a quartz (battery) powered watch and an automatic.

automatic watches tend to gain/lose up to 30 seconds per day. battery powered watches generally tend to gain or lose up to 30 seconds a month.

where automatics wind up a spring, which uncoils in a measured way and thus runs a watch, a kinetic stores up power in a battery, and the battery then runs the watch in the way a normal quartz watch functions. Thus, you get the awesomeness of a winder from the automatics with the accuracy of a quartz.

also, the watch in this deal has a tonne of complications… it is an absolute bargain. The OP doesn't say, but it seems to have a moonphase complication (i.e. tracks phases of the moon) as well as a dual time complication (aka GMT complication, which means the watch displays two times simultaneously, so for example, the time in another timezone/city), along with day of the month, day of the week, AND a power reserve indicator.

did I mention this is an absolute bargain at this price???

edit; yes, i've spent a bit too long on watchuseek and other watch nerd forums. and i have too many watches already with these complications to splurge on this one, though i'm SO tempted.

  • They got the mojito back in stock too yay!!

  • this or a Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 ?

      Different price brackets.

Quite a busy dial just to show the date and power reserve. And the lugs are certainly a… choice. I don't really care for Premiers and Couturas.

I used to have a Kinetiic long ago. It's kinda weird. It's requires movement for it to function, like autos, but has a batttery to store the excess energy for a measly 1 month reserve. I'd rather a solar with >6 month reserve. Kinetics have be worn regularly to charge the battery. Auto needs to be worn almost daily but you can prob skip a few days depending on the movement. Solar can just sit by the window.

Kinetics and Solars have batteries that have to be charged. But Kinetics are like an auto with a battery. I'm rambing now because of my painkillers. I think I typed all this just to say Kinetics are weird af. I guess it sits somehere in between an auto and solar or quartz! Totally forgot bout those. Then there's also spring-drive.

Maybe you don't like wearing watches, but have to attend galas, meetings, conferences, weddings and other formal events quite often. So you can just put this on and adjust the date and off you go! However, Autos also needs to be adjusted, so why not buy a nice auto for $550, like one of the Cocktails. And there are also solar dress watches. I dunno this is getting really confusing so i should stop
    .

    • +2

Yep I agree they are weird seeing you can choose either solar or auto. I'm really just replying to see if you post another massive long comment :)

      • I'm going outside for a bit. running out of beer and thinking about buyying a 30 can block of XXXX because i've never tried it

        • Don't forget the free wife beater on checkout.

          • @Xistn: cant tell if you're serious

            • @rosebank: You have to ask the check-out-chick, they usually keep them behind the counters.

    • This is a direct drive watch so you can wind it by rotating its crown.

    • Oh, just saw this. I typed up my own rant above :|

    • Mate, slowdown with the painkillers!

      • +1

This is for c4-c5 radiculopathy. I've had a CT guided cortisone injection in my neck and an ultrasound guided one in my arm. I was referred to a pain specialist and he told me to take X and Y, so that's what I'm doing, but sometimes I take 2 of X, 3 Ys. Sometimes I add Z. And I'm pretty much a high-functioning alcoholic

        • Hope you're feeling better mate.

          • @DontNeedThis: Yeah it;'s just annoying because I haven't been to the gym for nearly 6 months. But the pain meds are fun

  • +1

I have one of these. It is an attractive watch. It is pretty solid and chunky so you need to be ok.

Kinetic meaning related to movement. Great if you wear it all the time. I have quite a few watches so this doesn't get worn frequently, which means the battery goes flat. It does take a reasonable amount of swinging it back and forth to get it charged again. I guess you could put it on and as you move about it would gradually recharge. But time would be wrong for some time til it charged.

None of this to dis the watch. I really like it, but it's good to be aware of this if you won't wear it for some extended period

  • What do the M, W and D stand for on the power reserve? I love roman numerals but agree with Rosebank that two dials to tell the date seems a lot. And the power reserve indicator is pretty huge, though admittedly I'm used to the more minimalist reserve indicator on my GS Snowflake

    • I will take a guess - Month, Week and Day.

    • +2

Yes, its for month, week and day. When it gets winded up (due to hand movement or rotation of the dial), the same dial is used to show how much charge it generated in sense of time. The dynamo inside the watch has more RPM than an F1 engine, and Seiko uses magnetic levitation to hold the dynamo (I used to love Seiko Kinetic watches a few years ago- now I am old). I have been using this watch for the last 4 years. So ask me any question.
