Question: If you close a QANTAS card with say Citi and want to open a Citi Velocity card, do you have to wait the 12 month period before applying to be eligible for the bonus velocity points or are they treated separately?
Thanks

This. It’s not the card or benefits specifically, it’s the bank.
For AMEX, you are excluded for 18 months for any card signup bonus.
I have no doubt Citibank would be the same.
I have randomly rang Citi twice and got the same answer. Its product specific.
The small print says you cant have had a Citi velocity card in the last 12 months. That's why I queried it.
Interesting, is it specific to reward program or the card, as in can you have their top tier Qantas earning card, and then cancel and get their normal tier Qantas card?
@Pelicannn: The way it was explained to me was it was reward program specific. She said you can have both a Qantas and Velocity rewards card with Citi and be eligible for both rewards. Only thing she added was that its subject to approval which could mean they may not approve the second one you apply for. I am still not 100% convinced but it may open up a Pandora's box!
ME to Citi:
Hi. I had a Citi CC with QANTAS points
rewards but closed the account 2 months ago. I am moving away from
QANTAS points and towards Velocity points. If I apply for a Velocity
card -Citi Rewards 60000 Velocity Points offer- do I have a wait period
before I apply and are eligible for the bonus points? Is any wait period
between different programs?
The Reply:
We thank you for having an interest with Citi credit card accounts.
For general information, we note that there is no waiting period from
when you close your Citi account with us before applying for another
Citi credit card account.
Isn’t it any city card?
