Personally I would choose Cyan, just because I don't like the blue painted "Start" text on the other two.
Only black left.

Was a new post really required?

    • +4

Does it break any rules? I didn't know BCF stocked G-shock watches.

Also thought $20 off sign up was good to know.

      • -8

Yeah it’s called a duplicate. You can literally see the g shock if you click the link on the other post.

        • +1

But the deal only mentions a tent? So how would people who didn't click know there was a good deal on a G-shock?

          • -6

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Did you click the link? It’s literally the first thing on the page. Jesus.

            • +3

@Repstar: No I am talking about seeing the deal title while scrolling down the front page of ozbargain. How would you know it's a G-shock deal if the title doesn't mention it?

Anyway if it breaks any rules mods will delete it.

I wasn't trying to step on a newbies toes. I even credited the original poster.

            • +2

@Repstar: Also, I totally forgot about this. But there's literally 15 mins left until the deal is over lol.

So I posted the deal with some urgency 20 minutes ago. Not only did I think it was a good deal, but I was talking to another user who said they would be interested in this watch if it hit $180 so I gave him the heads up.

I don't get how some users here are 100% serious about things. I mean it's not worth getting worked up about IMO.

@busybee2454: Sorry busybee I didn't intend to bring you into this back and forth.
I appreciate you posting your deal. I was actually watching the TV when I saw your deal on my phone and it said "Happy hour" so I had to check what was on sale.
And to my surprise there was a G-shock watch there with 35 minutes and counting. I had to post it for the watch nerds ( ͡• ͜ʖ ͡• ).

  • Blue out of stock :( Much want.

    • Yeah not much use it saying "Available in store only" when the entire sale only lasts 5 hours.

      • Unavailable for Delivery
This product can only be collected in a store.

        Unavailable for Click & Collect
This product is only available through delivery

        • My bad I only read the first two lines and thought it meant "available in store if you can find it".

I was in a rush to get back to my movie. Thought 10pm past so it was all over. But black is still available and on sale.

BTW White was definitely in stock at the time of posting. I checked on that colour when I entered my postcode to show shipping costs. The open tab on my phone also showed the orange add to cart button before I refreshed it.

    • $235 at Amazon

  • Thanks OP. I picked up a black one

  • 10:02pm, still available in black.

Says "till 18/1/23" so I guess it will go for 2 more hours?

  • Thanks op I would have missed this deal otherwise

No problem. Sorry I didn't give you the heads up, I only remembered you saying you loved the look of the cream white GBD200 so it just didn't click.

Thanks for the heads up casibro

  • Is there any watch like this but in a smaller package? The dimensions seem way too big for my scrawny 6.5" wrist.

    • Just get a G5600E-1, can't go wrong with the square G, more traditional choice.

      • I wouldn't, after seeing these new screens, traditional LCD is meh

        • Huh?
Guess you like inverted look more then - i have one of each, much harder to read unless in bright sunlight.

That white band with silver and black looks 'meh'

          • @G-rig: I have an inverted screen G shock, and I agree it is harder to read.

These screens are completely different, similar to e-Ink used in a kindle, with much higher contrast

            • @greatlamp: Oh right, just had a look, it sounds like the new ones use that MIP-LCD tech.
Found a list of models, obviously these would be a bit limit and not all features styles available. I always want solar now, and maybe bluetooth sync (given that atomic clock doesn't work in AUS, and makes configuring the watch a lot easier than pressing the buttons).

              https://casiofanmag.com/g-shock/mip-lcd/

Expired anyway, but can't see they are worth $399.

    • It's a G-Shock. It's okay to be a bit big… ;)

      • Generally and traditionally yes, they are pretty chunky. I like some of the models like the squares I mentioned, and the ga2100 that are a bit thinner, fit well and more comfortable (similar wrist size too and they are great).

Depends if he actually wants a marine watch, assume some different features. No point getting something odd just because it's cheap. Highly recommend solar and auto el (illumination).

        • Yeah I have no need for the marine features so they'd be wasted on me. The price is good but I was just worried about the size. Thanks for the GA2100 tip.

With the MIP display? No this is as compact as it gets for this module.

I have another version of this watch the GBD200 without the metal guard and even though it's only 1mm smaller in height and width compared to the GBX100 it looks smaller than it's dimensions would suggest which is roughly 50mmx50mm, and definitely looks much smaller than the chunky G-shock design models.

The only dimension I don't think it looks slim is the thickness. Which you only really catch when looking at it side on instead of at the watch face.

If you want you can go for a traditional G-shock square model like G-rig suggested the 5600 series. If that is still too big for you, there are a couple "downsized" versions of squares which are branded Baby G. e.g. they usually release them in pairs for special series like the Earth Tone series. https://www.g-central.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/DW-5600…

Keep in mind though the squares use a normal negative display LCD, they won't be nearly as easy to read as positive display LCD version of the same watch or the MIP display. The MIP display is in it's own category in the way it manages to capture light and give an evenly "almost backlit" type of experience in most lighting conditions.

I can't 100% say for sure, but you might be able to pull off the GBD200.

Try search for "GBD200 6.5 inch wrist" and someone might have posted a photo on reddit or a video on youtube showing you the fit.

One thing that's different to the GBX100, is the GBD200 has these moulded pieces underneath where the band meets the case. So that might close some gaps and it might sit better on your wrist than you might think.

Edit: This guy looks pretty thin judging by his fingers, and this is how the GBD200 looks on his wrist. https://youtu.be/J5fUHD-XjP0

  • This or gpd200? They both have the nice screen right?

    • They both use the same MIP display yes. The module is also identical, only the programming is different which is why they have different module numbers.

The difference is in the module programming is the GBX100 also gets Tide and Sunrise Sunset data screens.

  • The price is good but it’s unavailable for delivery 😣

    • Black was still available for delivery when I checked before 12am.

For anyone who copped this watch here is some info that might help. The experience I will mention is identical for both GBX100 and GBD200 models.

Pairing the watch to your phone using the G-shock Move App link is only necessary if you, 1. Don't want to set the time manually, 2. Want phone notifications, 3. Want to customize Exercise activity screens (3 fields) and sync that data.
I linked the phone for time sync and notifications, I don't really use the fitness function at all but I set the data fields just in case.

As you can imagine to last 2 years with a CR2032 coin battery, the bluetooth is going to be extremely power efficient (Bluetooth LE) and it will have limited range and it will also disconnect on it's own if you have taken the watch off and it detects no movement for some time. When you pick it up again your phone will need to be nearby (In my experience about 2m to 3m) in order for the bluetooth to successfully find the phone. In a way they are companions, and I think G-shock expects the watch to be on your wrist most of the time, and your phone to be in your pocket.

One issue I ran into early on, was when the watch is trying to find the phone even if it is nearby the bluetooth icon would continue flashing and have trouble connecting. This was solved by going into the phone settings (OS) and making sure the G-shock Move App had location access set to "always allow". Don't worry the App does not to be opened or even open in the background, it can remain closed and the automatic time sync/notification functions will work properly.

When the watch attempts bluetooth reconnect it also automatically does a internet/geo location time sync using your phone data. In order for this to work seamlessly you need to "always allow" location data for the G-shock Move App, I also left mobile data access "on" for the App but if you haven't manually switched this off it should already be on.

Ever since I did this the watch always successfully connects and syncs time (shows G-shock logo on screen for 4 to 5 seconds) even if the phone is out of range and I bring my phone closer afterwards. The time sync happens so quickly and seamlessly you will barely notice it, e.g. put the watch on, grab your phone and it's done by the time you are out the door and doesn't require and input from you.

Some other info, in no particular order.

    1. If you never sync the watch with the phone you will likely get the best battery life. (2+ years)

    2. You can disable notifications from phone's bluetooth connection settings (watch model name) if you get a lot of them. Obviously 50+ notifications a day will probably kill you battery life. The 2 year battery life estimate has a lot of scenario's but the estimate notification count is 10 per day.

    3. Notifications previews for messages only show contact name. But Calendar Alert notification previews do show the text for the alert e.g. "wash dishes". Can't remember the others sorry. You can dismiss the notification immediately while it's on screen or it will disappear within a few seconds.
Edit: I swear previously I was able to dismiss a notification preview so it would not count towards your missed notification bubble, but I just tested about 10 times now and could not remember how to get it to work. If you catch onto this before I do please let me know.

    4. Once a notification is cleared, you can navigate to the notification list screen with bottom left button, then enter the list with top right button. This is where is where you can read the message content if you need to, but it's quicker just to pull out your phone. I would only bother going to this screen to clear all notifications.
To dismiss all notifications hold down the top left button, go to "delete" then follow the prompts.

    5. Using the light also kills the battery, I recommend keeping auto light (gesture control) off. I think it returns to "off" automatically after around 6 hours anyway, but yeah it will be triggering the light when you aren't even looking at the watch killing the battery life. I have duration set to 3 secs (max) and honestly rarely use it because you only need it if it's pitch black.

    6. Remember it's a digital watch first, with bluetooth linked features second, and step counter with distance calculation last. From online feedback, I read that the step counter can be quite inaccurate at times like with all step counters. But they did a direct distance comparison to GPS watch worn at the same time. And when starting and recording an activity on the Casio, for multiple activities the distance was extremely close to the distance measurement of a GPS watch. Take what you want from that.

    7. If not starting an activity, do not press the press the top right button (the start button) on the any home screen. Once you do this even without starting the activity when you try to back out of it the watch needs to delete the session in takes a good 10 seconds. Not fun.

    8. Auto BT time sync is supposed to happen every 24 hours according to the user manual. But in my experience either I am missing seeing it happen, or it only happens if I take my watch off for whatever reason then put it back on after it has disconnected Bluetooth LE. I can get it to trigger every 24 hours if I take it off, wait, and put it on so in that scenario what the manual says is true. (if you don't wear your watch to sleep)

9.There is no hourly beep option on this module, don't bother looking for it it's not there.

    • An update to this at the end of point number 3.

      Notifications previews…
…Edit: I swear previously I was able to dismiss a notification preview so it would not count towards your missed notification bubble, but I just tested about 10 times now and could not remember how to get it to work. If you catch onto this before I do please let me know.

Alright so I was able to successfully dismiss the notification preview so it didn't count towards the speech bubble logo count as it came in. I am just not sure exactly how I did it, but it's definitely 1 of the 3 actions I will mention before.
The important thing I realized though is the speech bubble going away (the notification preview you dismiss on the spot) does not happen straight away, after you dismiss it the speech bubble with the number 1 inside will still remain after dismissing, but a few seconds later it will clear itself and disappear.

One of these 3 methods is the one that clears the bubble.

      1. Press the top right button soon after the notification beep sounds. ~a few seconds later the speech bubble should disappear (clear)
      2. Unlock your phone and look at the notification source (particular message or particular alert in calendar) ~a few seconds later the speech bubble should disappear (clear)
      3. Tap on the notification and have the phone directly take you to the notification source ~a few seconds later the speech bubble should disappear (clear)

One of these successfully triggers it. And remember there is a delay, after you do one of these 3 actions (still not sure which one) the bubble with the number 1 will still be there but if you wait a short time it will disappear (clear).

Just wanted to point this out, because it would be a bit ridiculous to have the bubble count pile up with 9 or so notifications and having to regularly clear all of them with button presses. So there is a system in place, where if you take action to read the notifications they will automatically clear on the watch.

      • Bit much hassle for a G-Shock, it's still not exactly a smart watch. They need to do a colab with another company (think there was someone in the works), the screens are too small for all that. The app makes it much easier configuring the watch on the bluetongue models, instead of pressing the buttons for ages.

I like the solar (and Bluetooth) modules in the squares (G5600) and other models like the GA2100, keep it simple.

        • Yeah I typed a lot above. But I assure you in practice it's much more simple and it just works as you would expect.
I don't find myself forcing to do certain things to dismiss a notification. It's just that I waited until it happened again (notification on watch, dismiss, auto clear) naturally, and at the time I was busy and doing a few things so I wasn't exactly sure what the trigger was.

The simple answer would have been just listing those 3 points I made. But yeah I just made it sound tricky by typing too much.

I agree it's very very far from a smart watch. But again a smartwatch won't get 2 years battery life.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: It's a kind of hybrid I guess, still not as good as a Fitbit charge 5 I imagine.. but yeah 2y battery pretty good and just a buck or two to replace yourself (and ensure seal is ok).

I'm not interested in charging a Smart watch every day or paying 500-600$ for one.

      • By the ways guys sorry for making it sound so complicated.

I figured how the auto clearing of notifications works.

The nofitications are cleared when you check them on your phone.
Got a message? open that message on your phone and the numbered bubble on the watch disappears.
Got a Calendar alert? open up the calendar alert and the bubble on the watch disappears.

So yeah it was simple as that. No watch interaction needed at all, you can just let the notifications build up in your watch bubble (e.g. 6 missed notifications). And when you check them later on the phone, it must send a bluetooth signal to the watch marking them as "read" at which point the watch's bubble disappears.

This was my first bluetooth/connected watch so I didn't know this is how bluetooth notifications work in general.

        • Alright another follow up. (I like doing this lol)

Um the notification count bubbles for messages get cleared if you navigate to the app manually and read the message without tapping with the lock screen Message notification (this can also be done to clear the watch's bubble).
But for some reason if it's a Calendar alert, you can't just clear it by navigating to the particular alert in the Calendar app. You have to tap on the lock screen Calendar notification and let it take you to the Calendar alert for it to register that you have "read it" to clear the notification count bubble on the watch.

Just a quirk I guess. The phone doesn't send the "Calendar alert read" signal to the watch unless you interact with the lock screen notification.

Also one more thing I noticed after many months of use. Which can actually be considered a negative.
So I noticed when I went to this particular store and waited there, the watch bluetooth icon was flashing meaning no connection with phone.
Ok unusual but could be a once off I thought since I never noticed it happening before. How to fix? Just hold about the A button on the watch, go to "Pairing" and then "Connect" it connects to the phone straight away.

Here is the weird part, weeks later on a different day it happened a 2nd time at the exact same location. Weird I thought no problem though fixed it with the method above. (keep in mind if you don't reconnect using this method, it seems like the watch is forever "searching" for the phone but can't connect)

Then it happened a THIRD time, in the exact same location. And it does not happen anywhere else. These instances are happening in random times I go to that particular store, only consistency is the location. And I can confirm everywhere else the watch stays connected.
This is when I realized the Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) signal must be getting interfered causing it to drop connection with the phone. So that particular location must have a lot of wireless interference going on. I don't quite know what it is, maybe a Router that's going haywire or just a lot of WiFi access points but yeah. The watch might drop Bluetooth connection in areas with high interference.

Thankfully for me this is only 1 specific location that I only go to once every few months. But yeah thought it was worth mentioning.

  • A couple of colours are on backorder only at Amazon for $175.20, I think? I don't know the difference between the OP's watch and these ones:

G-SHOCK GBX100-7D Mens Blue Digital Watch with White Band

G-SHOCK GBX100-2D Mens Green/Grey Digital Watch with Green Band

Is it just the colour code or something?

Edit: Sorry, not sure how to link the back order version. You can add it via other sellers (sold by Amazon AU)

    • Nice catch. I have actually been occasionally checking the Amazon prices too to post a deal lol, and whenever I checked that area for Amazon Warehouse stock (same place "Other sellers") I never saw a lower price.

Is it just the colour code or something?

You mean the last digits? Yeah that's referring to the different colour versions.

My post had different versions available so I just put the model digits.
