Join a Google Family Account with The Main Account Being Overseas

My parents are overseas. I’ve got them family subscription of YouTube and sent myself an invite to join the family.

When I try to join, I get a message saying I can’t join because I’m not in the same country.

Is there a way around this?

Will a vpn work? Or will I still need to move my google account overseas before I can join the family?

Problem with moving the account overseas is that I won’t be able to change it back to australia for another 12 months. This is as per google own faqs.

Would appreciate if anyone who’s done it can help.

  • Your region needs to be set to same region, largely has no bad affect. The most annoying for me was when my accounts were set to India, I couldn’t access the cookido app on play store (companion app for thermomix). At the start also had a lot of recommendations for Indian music…

    • Will I need a vpn as well?

      • No

I have 3 accounts set to India being used here no problem

        • @Jimothy Wongingtons sorry to reply on this old thread - but is this still working for you?

As others have said, its not in a different country, it is they are in a different region.

In the eyes of Google, 'Family' is people living in the same household, not family spread around the globe.
