Can Businesses Remove Google Reviews?

Hi all,
I've never posted a review on goolgle but felt the need to because of the poor service I received.
I posted the review and a picture but now noticed the review has disappeared.
Can businesses remove bad reviews?
There was no swearing/bad language in my review.

I was only alerted to this because google sent me an email stating over 40 people have seen the picture i uploaded.
Yet when i looked at the company on google, my 1 star review is not showing up.

    • yes i saw that hence the statement about no swearing/bad language.
The only statement i can think that is inappropriate is this
"They dont care about warranty or Australian Consumer Law."

      • They could have reported your content for any of these reasons: https://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/7400114

It doesn't have to be an actual justifiable reason. They just did anyway.

Either that or the review is just buried under others in their algorithm and may show up later.

This was posted in December, but interestingly my photo uploaded is still up. 😅

      Interesting that it says:

Don't report a review just because you disagree with it or don't like it.
Google doesn't get involved when businesses and customers disagree about facts.
There's no reliable way to tell who's right about a particular customer experience.

So how do businesses get bad reviews removed when they get review bombed?

I definitely know of businesses getting 1-star reviews removed. As someone else said, best to make it a 2 star review so it's not so skewed.

I got shadowbanned on google reviews after years of reviews, not sure why.

To answer your question, yes, it is very possible to completely scrub bad google reviews off a business. I'm not sure how they do it but some manage to 99% of bad reviews, probably paying a fancy PR agency for their expertise in doing that.

    • How'd you figure out you got shadowbanned?

      • Leave a review, open page you just reviewed in incognito mode, do you see review?

Never forget: Money can do absolutely anything.

also, something I have read and don't know if it's true; 1 star reviews are treated with contempt by google and likely to be removed/buried etc, so the safest way to keep your review from being removed is to make it a 2 star review.

There was a business recently I think they were lawyers of some sort who got lots of 1 star reviews then suddenly they were all gone and had several 5 star reviews added. So the answer to your question is yes.

    Kind of but not really.

I used to work for a small business, and when we got a negative review that we felt wasn't actually relevant to the company (Eg; Shipping took too long, I ordered the wrong thing, the courier kicked my dog, etc), we would just report them as incorrect/wrong business/conflict of interest, etc.
Some got taken down, some didn't.

  • Hey mmd, what was the business, and what was your review? If you post it here in this thread there's no way that Google can remove it. Also post a link to the pic please.

    • It's a sparky.
      Gist of the story:
Paid over $200 for a light fitting replacement. The light started flicking 1 month after 3 year warranty.
its a strip of led attached to the fitting itself so you cant replace it like a light bulb or fluorescent tube.
The light fitting itself costs $20 or less on ebay.

Moral of the story - if a sparky is installing a light fitting, make sure you get a light fitting where a consumer can replace the bulb/tube/downlights with plugs.
The family member got downlights installed which can be replaced by anyone.
