Hi OzBargainers,

Has anyone received an email from Netflix announcing a price rise? Just got this email today:

Hi,
We hope you’re enjoying everything Netflix has to offer. We’re updating our prices to bring you more great entertainment. Your monthly price will change to TL 130.99 on 17 February, 2023.

I think I'm currently paying TL $93.99.

Had a quick search but couldn't see any mention of it.

  • It's getting tough.
    Inflation everywhere!

    • But Turkey is experiencing hyperinflation (64% in December 2022 which is down from 84% from the previous month)

still cheaper than going australia pricing

  • Wow more than doubled in less than 6 months.

    • That is because they figured out they have hit rivers of gold with Netflix subscribers that seem to not be sensitive to price rises! They'll keep doing it until they see significant subscriber attrition.

Netflix probably knows full well there is a lot of people who seems to be claiming to be Turkish resident but live elsewhere for most of the year.

      • probably\

no probably about it…i definitely dont use a vpn to watch from my TR account and im..fairly sure a big majority of others dont either…

        • how do you have a full time job, family, being active on this sub, watch netflix, you seem to hit gym and into cars as well iirc from your other comments. like how do you have so much time?

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: my secret is i am always tired. Haven't been 'well rested' in forever.

i also watch netflix while i do my bike cardio (home gym).

@Jimothy Wongingtons: It MUH be NHHHHiiice I'm trynna get like yuuh mah boiii hahah🤪

      • Yeah, just completely ignore the plunging value of the Turkish Lira month on month throughout 2022. It couldn't possibly be that.

        • There is got to be one that ruins the party.

Most people just look at nominal not inflation / FX adjusted.

Who cares when the $1k TV now is 65" and the $500 TV in 1990 is 24" it is the dollars that count.

          • @netjock: Seems I was a bit of a grumpy bum yesterday!

  • Cracking the $10 AUD mark (at current rates) for the 4K plan. I have 206 TKL credit left, probably cancel when it runs out.

  • I hope they don't flag our Turkish accounts as being "shared" with Australians and try to charge us additional household fees.

  • My Indian family account still cruising along at $3.40/mth

people pay for netflix? jive turkeys…

  • has anyone noticed G2A is no longer selling Turkish gift cards? Where is a reputable place to purchase now?

    • Turgame

      • I tried purchasing from Turgame but the payment will not go through. An error message, "*** Forbidden. Private list deny. Browser seems to be spambot. ***" keeps popping up.

How do I get around this?

        Thanks.

The CC I use for my Turkish Netflix account is about to expire. When I go to update the card I'm asked for a Turkish mobile number - any way around that??

I tried a few of the "fake" SMS sites, didn't work

Convert back to Australia for a month.

      • How do you convert? I don't think you can change countries without creating a new account?

        • +2

Obviously check to see if you can just update your card details first.
          Assuming not.

          1) cancel, let the account expire
          2) login without using a VPN.
          3) renew which will prompt an update to your card details
          4) cancel, let the account expire
          5) buy a Turkish Gift Card and apply to the account
          6) when the credit expires, it'll fall back to the new credit card.

            @ESEMCE: Should add step
5a) login with Turkish VPN and apply gift card to account

Start a live chat through Netflix and tell them you need to update your cc details, and that you have tried doing it online but it doesn't save / or some random excuse that it "doesn't work".

They can then activate a payment form / verification form through the chat for you to type in your card details. This bypass all those sms/verification checks that comes up if you were to doing it through the site yourself.

I did this back in September last year to update the expiry date. If the first chat agent doesn't bring it up, just end the chat and start a new one until you get one that does it for you.

I tried that and they asked what country I was in lol. I ended up using my old Netflix account that had my AU credit card stored, VPN’d to Turkey and added a Turkish Netflix gift card to it. When the credit ran out it used my stored payment method.

    • Depends on your bank. With ING, my debit continued after my card expired because I've been subscribed for so long. So I didn't need to worry about updating my card details.

  • Looks like I'll be going back to standard. Hard to justify Netflix at TRL pricing let alone AU.

  • So the next question is, where are we flying to, to save a couple of bucks on NF

    • I'm guessing that the upcoming crackdown on password sharing will probably kill it. Netflix will turn around and charge an extra $x for you "home" in Turkey/Argentina/etc then an extra $4 for the shared house in Australia.

      • Guess we’ll know in a couple months if we need to go back to the high seas
