Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC80) 20kg - $480 + $50~$95 Delivery ($0 MEL Pickup) @ Rogers & Company Foods

50

I just finished my last 20kg bag recently and was shocked to find that prices have doubled since I last purchased! As far as I can see, the price for the same bag is $600+.

Rogers & Co Foods is actually where I bought my first big bag of WPC many years ago. Good value then and even better value now, it seems. I just picked one up and it's NZMP/Fonterra brand (made in Aus). Note that this is totally unflavoured (but does have lecithin in it for easier mixing), so you need to add the flavouring of your choice, or just drink it as-is if you don't mind the taste.

You must be hoooge after finishing a 20kg bag. What is the typical expiry of these?

    • Not hoooge enough. ;)

I don't know if there's an explicit expiry, it'll just keep a long time if you keep it dry and away from sun/heat. Took me about 3 years to get through mine.

And to think it was used as animal feed back in the day.

    • This probably warrants it's own deal. Ordered for $512.

    • Yeah I saw that one too, good call if you want it shipped. I've ordered from them in the past, no issues apart from the zip lock seals coming apart on all their pacakged bags (not a prob for their 20kg bags).

The Sunpro one uses sunflower instead of soy for the lecithin, which may be helpful for those who want to avoid soy. As far as protein %, according to the nutritional info the dry basis is 81.7, but as-is is 77.1. I looked up Warrnambool Cheese & Butter and planned to call them to ask what the difference was, but just bought this one instead.

  • For like ten years it was less than this for Fonterra NZ isolate from them. With price increases its worth noting there are quality alternatives like protein powders from faba bean ( ~80% protein @ Coles) , rice, hemp, pea, soy and others.

    • I tried looking for alternatives but still couldn't find anything as cheap per kg. I tried soy powder once before and couldn't stand the taste, and heard the same for pea protein powder. Which fava bean powder does Coles sell?

      • The Coles Fava bean isolate is like 80% and fairly neutral and fine. Think it was 300g for $10 I think, located in the pre packed bulk health food powders.

  • I remember buying a 20kg bag on WPC for $150 on ebay 10 years ago

    • Did you get massive gains?

  • And the missus thinks my 5kg buys are excessive
