I looked at the Xiaomi one for $60 and saw this for less and they look like they pretty much do the same thing, but the Xiaomi looks more fancy.

The Xiaomi one also comes with a Wireless Dial Controller, which allows you to turn it on/off, adjust the brightness and colour temperature of the light.

I have nfi how wide each one is.

The Xiaomi One is 45cm long.

Like a remote control? Kinda pointless when you can just touch the light bar to adjust brightness from your chair

Edit: just saw your edit. so yeah a remote control. kinda neat, but useless imo

Edit 2: this is also 45cm

      Stop editting dude

      • Kinda pointless when you can just touch the light bar to adjust brightness from your chair

"I found touching the lightbar to change settings will mildly shift the lightbar each time." as per ATangk Comment

        EDIT: also didn't neg you.

        • Cool, I can see the use case for other people, but I can easily reach the bar from my chair, and I don't know the clamping force of the Baseus.

You edited your comment at least twice, adding the pic, and length, which I was looking up at the time.

I believe all edits should be labeled; not doing so makes your original comment look better and makes me edit my comments due to your stealth edits.

@rosebank: I can also reach my lightbar from my seated position. And the only function I use is on and off.

But before buying I did look at the "volume dial" remote models, and I can see how it would be useful for precisely and easily controlling the brightness.

For example on my light bar the brightness change (which I don't use) required you to hold the touch sensor on the side and wait, then let go at your desired brightness. It works, but it involves waiting and holding your finger there which isn't as easy as just spinning a volume knob a specific amount.

But yeah for me the difference in price just to get the wireless volume knob remote was not worth it.

            • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: All I wanted was to try a monitor light, which I don't even need, so I bought a cheapish one to try out. I don't see myself constantly changing the brightness ot colour temp. Basically on/off

So just in this thread alone, according to commentors: the Xiaomi clip is so weak that if you touch it, it'd slightly move, so you must need the remote dial. People telling they didn't neg me for some reason. The clip on this one is rubbish. The clip on this one is good for thin bezels and build quality is good.

              • @rosebank: Just be careful with baseus ebay. There was a recent deal, rep posted a lot of discounted items + further discount stacked with code.
I checked the final price of a few products and when doing a search on eBay for them they were multiple cheaper listings for the same item (baseus branded) available from decent sellers.
So where is the discount? I thought.
Yeah they sell mostly low priced stuff, e.g. one of the items I checked was a $5 Bluetooth 5.1 USB dongle. But saying "massive sale + additional discount for ozbargainers" when the same item was $1 less from other sellers (regular price) wasn't good.

                • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: ebay is just shit in general. I have a few months of plus left but the "sales" and codes for "eligible items" are so convoluted that you can't tell what kind of deal you're getting unless you're logged in and click on the item (and even then, sometimes the proper discount dioesn't show up), or even worse, go to checkout to try the dozen plus codes they have available at the same time. I asked my mate and he said all these 20-22% off are opt-in by the sellers and that's why he doesn't do them, in addition to ~15% sellers fee for each item and store fees. And the free ebay plus express shipping seems to be completely random.

What happened to 20% off sitewide?

                  • @rosebank: Yeah I never really shopped much on eBay, but have recently looked through ozbargain deals.

Aliexpress is another marketplace gone to shit, I used to shop their occasionally more often than on eBay actually but weird changes and the increased amount in effort while still getting shafted.
e.g. over a year and a half ago I used to quite consistently get codes to work on Aliexpress and combine with cashback to reduce totals.
Then suddenly started having a lot of trouble with codes, they are very vague about "qualifying items" and it's just a game of try every code until you find one that works. And the last few times none of the codes worked.
On top of this I am now hearing that if you click through cashback, Aliexpress shows you jacked up prices. So you just can't win, all this work to try to best case scenario get a small discount only to end up with none.

Seems like all these marketplaces are playing a game of "how much crap are you willing to put up with".
So I have shifted mostly to buying from Amazon AU. Sold by them if possible, but occasionally Fulfilled by Amazon Sold by Third party.
There are some genuinely good prices there sometimes, and when it's not a really low price most times I am willing to pay the extra because it arrives quickly and I can depend on them for any problems because they are such a large company.

TBH I have read from most users that eBay Plus is not worth the coin. And this is coming from users who have claimed the first annual fee back in voucher form during that promo.

                    • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Yeah I used to buy earphones, like wired earbuds, from Aliexpress years ago. The discounts were simple, each store had their own spend x save x coupons, and sometime a sitewide coupon. That's it! I don't even bother with Ali anymore, it's too confusing.

I'm mostly Amazon now as well, despite my dislike of Bezos. Their prices are good, delivery time is good, great CS, and I've been able to return/replace items out of warranty

                      • @rosebank: "and sometime a sitewide coupon."

Yeah they have always had and still have at least 4 "Sale seasons" per year with the $XX off $XXX spend coupons. I just remember during my peak around 1.5 to 2 years ago the in my experience the coupons would literally work all the time. I know because I wasn't being picky with items I just clicked through cashback, put it all in one basket and it would apply the discount.
Cashback would always track too regardless of the coupon I used. I was loving it.

Now it's like "sorry you don't qualify", "sorry code error no" and you get higher prices because you are using cashback.

            • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I received mine a couple days ago. The clamping force isn;t great, but the touch controls are easily reachable and easy to use. But I already have a USB powered desk lamp so I don't really see myself using the monitor lamp unless I'm soldering or fixing something while watching a youtube video or folloiwng instructions on a website.

              • @rosebank: "But I already have a USB powered desk lamp so I don't really see myself using the monitor lamp unless I'm soldering or fixing something while watching a youtube video or folloiwng instructions on a website."

You know I have a mini ring light as well for that sort of thing. It's got like 4 bendable arms and it clamps anywhere, I got it for $9 off Amazon AU which is great value but.
I realized something when working on detailed stuff it's annoying how your hands create shadows, I really should have spent the money on a LED light that straps to your head.
Actually using both would probably be optimal to eliminate unexpected and distracting shadows.

                • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Buy loupes with LEDs, I use them when working on watches and stuff

                  • @rosebank: " Buy loupes with LEDs,"

Yeah thanks "loupes" I didn't know they were a thing. Currently I don't have much trouble with complex things though with both my eyes and hands. It's just the lighting at the moment.

      • I didn't neg you, but just FWIW, I can't reach my Xiaomi light bar from my seated position, so the wireless remote control, which I can place within reach, is fantastic. The lack of remote control on this one would be a dealbreaker for me personally.

YMMV depending on your distance from your screen / how short your arms are.

        • I don't care about negs. But yes, different people have different use cases, and different people have different bodies. I am 185cm with long arms, and I did not consider distance from screen and people with shot arms, my apologies.

    • Apart from the wireless dial, are there any other major differences? In the market for a monitor light but can't really justify spending nearly twice as much for the xiaomi one over the baseus when they look and mostly do the same thing?

      • I don't own the Baseus one, so can't compare, but I've been using the Xiaomi one daily for almost 2 years.

just discovered the Xiaomi one is discounted too…

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354393793122

I wonder too about the differences. I think the Xiami might have a better lighting spec as well as being a bit more refined in the design??

      • This design can only fit narrow bizel monitor, if your monitor is quite deep like most curve gaming monitor, it can't fit. I refunded mine.

    • Just double checking this is the Xiaomi light bar you are referring to?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-mijia-smart-disp…

  • Thanks Ops … been looking for one. Purchased this along with 3-in-1 cable, been looking for one for spare in car.

  • Does anyone already have this? Worth the $35?

    • +2

I have this, along with Kogan's and Xiaomi. Go to Kogan's if your budget is lower, Xiaomi if your budget is higher.

I dislike the clip on these. Rubbish. Had to wedge a folded piece of paper for it to grip properly and hold in place.

      • Ah, thanks for that! Is there a difference in light output or quality between the Baseus and Xiaomi? If I pay more for the Xiaomi, is it only for the wireless control and more secure mounting?

        • To my naked eye, I can't see much of a difference between the three tbh. Not an expert here. Baseus/ Xiaomi measured 45cm on casing, Kogan 46cm.

If budget allows, Xiaomi for the mounting. All three light bars are on curved monitors so baseus doesn't do it for me on thin curved bezel, maybe it works for flat monitors? The curved monitor the baseus sits on has a depth of close to 1cm.

  • Can anyone please explain how the light bar sits in place? Does it "pinch" the monitor bezel, or does it simply sit there?

    • coil spring clip, but with soft silcone pads to protect your monitor. look at the pics in the listing

      • Thanks. Yeah I couldnt tell by the pictures. But the spring clip indicates to me that the base "pinches" the bezel to hold the bar in place. Probably not what I want since my monitor has a thin bezel.

        • +1

Prob not for you if you have a very thin bezel. It says "Suitable for screens of 8mm-20mm thickness", as for the bezels, you can look at the pics and go from there.

But according to @LurvinOZB the clip on this is rubbish. I already bought one so I guess I'll find out soon

        • +1

So two commentors in this thread say this is good for thin bezels, but not curved. Getting a bit confusing

        • received the light from this special. I have thin bezel on curved Dell S3423DWG with black borders .. just need to adjust it accordingly so only hook to the bezel

  • Build quality is good. The clip will cover your thin edge monitors and the light is on your screen too like most light bars.

  • How would these go with a smart plug too turn it on remotely? The Xiaomi with Wireless Controller or the Baseus?

  • +1

Just FYI guys. They have curved monitor light bars for curved monitors. I don't have one but not only is the light bar curved, I would think they designed the mount to work properly with curved monitors as well.
Haven't checked Amazon AU or eBay, but they have them on Aliexpress.

  • Bought this to try on my dell u2412. Wasn't happy with the fit as the top of the monitor slopes down and back. One touch in the wrong place and you've got half a kg of aluminium crashing down on your monitor and desk! Returning and trying the Xiaomi.
