Thanks, was looking for one and picked it up!

      • is this a legit seller for ipad?

        • Buy first, ask later

It’s brand new per the eBay description, so the serial number hasn’t been activated and seller has 100% rating anyway

        OzBargain eBay post

  • The iPad mini also $100 off. Still cheaper if you buy Apple gift cards from woolies and use the education discount.

    • Just to be sure I've got this right - gift cards from Woolies give me Woolies rewards points to be used in their stores, and not cash discount I can use at Apple?

      • Correct

(or points to be transferred to Qantas Points)

        • That's a bit of a not-really-discounted discount (for me, specifically). I shop at Aldi and Woolies rewards points (or Qantas) means I don't save any cash in hand.

          • @razzy: Yeh it’s only worth it if you shop at Woolies.

64 Gb in 2023 is a joke , doesn’t matter you use icloud, or any online services .

    • +4

Currently using 51Gb on Pixel 7 Pro with 140 apps installed.. and a few music playlists and adult movies.

      • iPad apps generally have larger graphics assets and therefor larger app sizes due to the larger display and more pixels

    • This iPad support USB-C hub/dongle. Get a USB-C dongle which has USB 3 ports and USB card reader. Or, just connect it to a USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure (up to 1000MB/s read, 1000MB/s write).

    • +1

It’s not only a joke. It’s a blatant upsell by apple.

Hell. I can go get a 64gb sd card for 20$ or less and apple want to charge you out of the arse for the 128gb upgrade. So stupid and what has turned me off from pulling the trigger on an iPad

I do use mostly apple products, but for the tablet category if I were to purchase, it would have to be a non-apple table due to their upsell ladder centered around giving users 64gb base models in 2023

    • +3

It’s doable, but pretty sure the 64Gb in there is to make you be unsold to 256GB, and then think about buying an IPP.

These would be a fantastic, good value machine except for that storage limitation. My daughter went the upsell to 256GB. An engineering student, I am amazed at the ways she uses hers.

That bit of corporate bean counting isn’t enough to buy a non iPad tablet though. Unless you are just using it to just view content, in comparison it’s a barren land for decent apps elsewhere. If you really need a tablet, it’s an iPad really.

      • It's a must for university students. Girls love the aesthetic options but it's useful for all students.

I want my kids to start using it as a study tool now in senior highschool.

We had so many iPads before but sold them all and now left with one that my hubby cannot part with. He uses his for ios gaming apps and watching shows.

How I wished I still had old iPads lying around. You don't need the latest model really. Just need to clean it up, put a new cover, paper like screen protector, apple pencil/stylus and good notes/ noteability apps.

AGree that 64gb is a joke

They've just decided to finally make macbooks touchscreen. This will canabalize iPads and they've always known that. Somehow they've decided to let rip so will explain iPad sales especially low storage ones because of course they don't put SD card slots in for the same reason.

    • It won't make much of a difference - still very different in form factor.

      • Steve jobs was not a fan of touchscreen on a macbook

He is right about "arm fatigue" which would be a big factor on a macbook vs an ipad

    • If people actually ended up buying Macbooks with touchscreen instead, that will be more money for Apple.

Even if that new product line affects iPad Pro sales, Apple would be fine with that. Just think of it as iPad Pro running Mac OS… then you will realise… hold on, isn't it what something some people have been asking for years?

they don't put SD card slots in for the same reason

That's the really old way of thinking. This iPad Air supports USB-C/alt-mode DP 1.4 so it supports external SSDs and you can still connect it to a 4K display at the same time. iPad Pro supports Thunderbolt / USB 4.

Using an USB-C with a card reader + USB 3 ports + HDMI output, you CAN use a SD card + a SSD.

      • MacOS is not by design a touch friendly OS
not to mention arm fatigue of touching the laptop screen vs a ipad due to form factor
You also need to intentionally move your hand away from the mouse or keyboard or trackpad just to touch something on the screen.

Don't think people are gonna do that alot.

        as Steve jobs said here

The leak says Apple appears to be working on it. It doesn't have to replace every iPad. We are seeing iPad Air/Pro with a keyboard + trackpad. I don't see Apple's original intention is to "replace" iPad Pros.

Steve Job also said nobody would buy an phone with a screen bigger than 3.5 inch. Furthermore, Apple Pencil is already something Steve Job said no to. The Macbook Pro 14/16 notch, that, to me, once again, shows Apple has turned away from must adhere to best UX at all times.

          I see this as more:

          • Since Apple's competitor(s) is/are doing that (and I am not talking about just PC laptops), Apple might want to look at it as well. Apple is good at refining other people's features / ideas.
          • Apple running out of ideas for future gen laptops.

Some people have forgotten what happened the first time when Steve Job was at Apple and Apple nearly went bankrupt. The lesson Apple learned was not to withhold features on certain product lines to keep an existing product line alive. iPods used to be Apple's bread and butter. iPhone SE 2 and 3 both used CPUs better than some of Apple's other iPhones at the time. Would Samsung put Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in Samsung A75?

I am a bit worried for PC and Android. Apple is shrewd. It does seem odd (for now) Apple is willing to consider touchscreen on Macbooks, but after Apple Pencil, honestly, it is no longer too far stretched (though, these Apple leaks aren't as accurate as before).

          • @netsurfer: yeah i read about the leak about the touchscreen on MacOS news

Steve did say alot of stuff that are both good and bad predictions of future popularity and trends.. so you need to look at each critically.
I think the arm fatigue is right though.
You can test it with your own monitor or laptop (even if you don't have touchscreen).

Most laptops are placed on a desk or lap.
People's hands on usually rested on the keyboard and mouse/trackpad.
It takes more intentional effort to move the hands to the laptop screen just to touch some object on the screen compared to just quickly moving your mouse etc.
The screen also has no hand supporting it (unlike ipad), so touching it requires a bit more pressure etc..

The amount of touchscreen usage would be less if much at all than on an ipad or phone.

There are also people who have bought windows laptops with touchscreen and they also said they hardly ever used it.

            I see this as more:
Since Apple's competitor(s) is/are doing that (and I am not talking about just PC laptops), Apple might want to look at it as well. Apple is good at refining other people's features / ideas.

They are not always that good at refining ideas or features.
Some stuff they will or will not add into their OS or hardware is just plain dumb just cos it is not the Apple way.
            E.g.
            https://youtu.be/JUhNDjrvqvI?t=203

            • look at the bad reviews of the 10 gen ipad etc..

            https://youtu.be/JUhNDjrvqvI

Apple running out of ideas for future gen laptops.

Yeah, if you look at most of nowadays e.g. MacOS, it hasn't really changed much since MacOS X,
they are just refining it nowadays.

I am a bit worried for PC and Android. Apple is shrewd. It does seem odd (for now) Apple is willing to consider touchscreen on Macbooks, but after Apple Pencil, honestly, it is no longer too far stretched (though, these Apple leaks aren't as accurate as before).

Yeah I read that apple is going to jack up the prices of the next iphone 15 pro max etc to a new price bracket

Not really worried, Apple still sucks for gaming and they don't have all apps I need that is on Windows.
They are also really wall gardened and restrictive, so not everyone likes that.
Plus their products are really expensive and getting more expensive each year.

Except the diehard fans or people with lots of money or people who like the simplicity of Apple products

Most people will get PC, android phone and maybe apple tablet (cos Apple tablet still better than Android tablet)/

In general though, due to the inflation and cost of living and maturity of the products (e.g. current phone is good enough)
the tech companies are going to see less spending.
A lot companies are also jacking up the prices (e.g. nvidia, apple) so middle income earners are less likely to buy it.

@pinkybrain: I don't get why touchscreen on a Macbook Pro means that becomes the primary input method. I only have a Windows laptop that has touchscreen. That one can be folded (close to 360 degree rotation) so you just use essentially the screen only if you really want to. I gave that laptop to my father because he's just not good with trackpad. Keyboard, however, he is fine with it. Pinch in, pinch out is so much easier for him (just like phones and tablets).

Clicking on links, especially in presentations, can be more efficient with touch screen.

It's not about only use touchscreen for majority of input. It's about having best of both worlds.

iPad 10th gen - honestly, it is essentially Apple's way of protesting to EU's USB-C mandates. A lot of youTube videos are more about getting you to click on them. With the USB-C requirement coming up, Apple picked an iPad Air based board, cripple the USB-C to USB 2.0, move the camera to have the excuse not to support Apple Pencil 2.

Apple Pencil is best used with laminated display. Apple simply doesn't want to do it. The real purposes of iPad 10th gen are:

              • Fill the price gap between iPad 9th gen and iPad Air.
              • Should EU USB-C requirement mandates kick in and Apple canned iPad 9th gen, it gives EU regulators the middle finger that cheap iPads no more.

Apple prices will keep going up. However, PCs are not going to have an easy path. PCIe gen 5 has cost implication. In order to compete, AMD, nVidia are now using 5nm processes. They won't get the same price discount as Apple.

Majority of Apple users will welcome touchscreen on Macbooks. Mac OS is not an issue, Apple has 2 years to sort that out.

Most recent news: PCs, laptops suffered yet another sales decline across the board last year. The least affect company is Apple.

Sure, Apple Macs suck in gaming, but iOS mobile gaming still bring in more revenue than PC gaming.

    • Probably what to go OLED and can’t find a laptop OLED display without it. Apple would have to iPadOSise MacOS to do it.

I doubt it would make a difference to iPad sales, or MacBooks when it comes to that. Their main limitation for sales is not a touch screen, but price.

As for touch, I can’t think of the last time I used the touchscreen on my HP dragonfly. TBH the most I have used that for is scrolling. And even then I mostly use the trackpad.

If you're like me and look at titles like these and wonder how old the iPad is, this one was launched March 18, 2022. So it's the newest.

    • -1

      64gb is the newest technology

      • With an USB-C dongle, this will support a 2TB external SSD easily (if the hub has USB 3.0 card reader, you can use that concurrently too). Let's get all Android tablets to support that too.

        • Can the Apps directly edit the files in the external SSD?

          • +1

@rqz: 1 year ago, AppleInsider posted this video:

Edit Video Off External Drives With iPad Pro! FINALLY!

He used LumaFusion. You do need apps that support using external storage.

            • @netsurfer: There was a user comment under your linked youtube video 5 months ago:

I’m now using LumaFusion editing from the external 5Tb drive successfully. I also store finished Movies on the external drive too.. The problem I have is not being able to upload to YouTube directly from the external drive. It doesn’t seem possible to browse and select the finished video from either the browser or app version of YouTube on my iPad Air, works from a PC.

Uploading files directly from external SSD to Youtube is still not possible. Still not a smooth workflow in Ipad.

  • 900 for 64 gigs and not even with 5G what happens when there's an update pretty much you do not have space at all even for updates. Unlike chromebook where you do not need to run any programs from the unit itself. Even then chromebook are now all coming in 128 gig as the base model.

    • +1

This isn't a great deal unless you really want M1 on a tablet for some reason.

However, I am still unclear why a lot of cheap Chromebook deals not getting really high votes. Those have 128GB or more storage.

      • Well, different use case, and ChromeOs is not like win11, MacOS or ipadOS.

      • -1

chromebook is only good for 1 use case - mainly use for browsing web and web apps.

  • iPads have a very good resell value. Looking for one now for my kids for studying.

When the app is so amazing that it makes you buy the tablet to get the app! Specifically Good Notes and Notability.

If only it was around when I was a student.

Any recommendations on refurbished models? They already have laptops so iPad is really just for study notes and planner. iPad replaces the lecture pads
    Pretty amazing.

    • +2

A lot of people rate the Apple refurb store but I’ve found that if you just wait for sales/deals on OzBargain you’ll probably get brand new in box for similar money.

Personally I’m in the same boat as you debating whether to trade in my 2018 iPad Pro 11” 4G to get about $500 from Mobile Monster vs just holding onto it for a spare iPad for the kids (although they’re under 4…). I found it interesting that Apple enabled Stage Manager for my old iPad Pro but not my wife’s much newer iPad Air 4th gen (before they switched to Apple Silicon processors).

  • Apple Tax post COVID!!
I bought a brand new iPad Pro M1 11inch 512gb for $949 from MobileCiti eBay just pre M2 release last year. It was a late night impromptu purchase and I thought it was I was paying too much and look at the prices now. It is only iPad Air in this deal (with M1 though). Wow.
I have previously commented similarly on M1 MacBook Air price hike too. It just amazes me every single time. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688154

  • "Liquid retina" is applespeak for LCD.

The fact that they don't offer OLED for $900 in 2023 is just as funny as the 64 gig storage.

  • Sorry but having to use a USB C port as a workaround to extend storage is just not elegant to say the least.

  • Also available in space grey, pink and starlight if you hate the blue one. Does anyone know if Officeworks have issues with you paying with gift cards or Flybuys dollars after getting the 5% discount?
