Natural Deodorant & Moisturiser Options

Afternoon all,

Just seeing if anyone could recommend some 'natural' deodorants and moisturisers that are relatively easy to purchase from Australia.

By 'natural', I just mean options that are:

-Aluminum Free
-Phthalate Free (I think due to these being common to many fragrances/perfumes, this may mean scentless options - which I would be fine with)
-Paraben Free
-Preservative Free
-Alcohol Free

Currently aware of https://www.perfectpotion.com.au/ and https://www.puresoulcollection.com.au/.
Happy to utilize Amazon.
Would like the deodorant to either be scentless or marketed towards men.

Thanks for your time!

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who responded - got some really good recommendations. Much appreciated!

  • Why deodorant instead of anti-perspirant?

Deodorant masks odors while anti-perspirant tackles the sweat that leads to the odors occuring which is what you should use.

There's a UK brand called "Simple Skincare" that does sensitive products with no perfume, no alcohol, no soap, no parabens, no phtalates etc.

    • My argument to that would be that your body needs to sweat. Stopping the sweat probably is not good for you in the long term. Just my opinion, not saying you're wrong, maybe I am wrong

Your body still sweats through every pore in your skin, but it's reduced through the pores that have an anti-perspirant applied to, which is good, if you have sweaty pits. And as a by-product of the reduced sweaty pits, is reduced odour.

Funny how people are looking for 'natural' options to interfere with their body's natural system. Natural is just another marketing gimmick.

Yeah here's the thing, natural deodorants don't work. Especially if you're a genetic, one-man sauna.

Nothing beats the skin's absorption rate of fine aluminium zirconium particles and their ability to plug pores.

Perlite (volcanic glass powder) is the only other real substitute but hardly any other deodorants use it and most that do, use it in conjunction with aluminium zirconium to boost the anti-antiperspirant properties.

I gave Redwin, Sukin, Brutal Truth, Aesop, Weleda & a whole range of the hideously expensive herbal deodorants a shot but to no avail in the summer, as I found Niagara Falls opened up underneath each arm the moment the mercury went above 27C. If Australia's climate was about 10C cooler on average, they might suffice but in summer there's just no hope in hell for any of that stuff working for me.

I also find that most of these natural deodorants also tend to produce a pretty weird, funky smell when they mix with body odour for a prolonged period of time; unlike the mainstream antiperspirants that maintain a consistent fragrance hours after application.

This is not discounting the mounting body of research showing a clear link between chronic, long-term aluminium exposure and Alzheimer's, dementia and breast cancer in women; I'm just saying that non-aluminium based antiperspirant deodorants just flat-out don't work (despite the incredibly cocksure marketing featured on these natural deodorants).

  • Fresca deodorants (aussie company) make a good product. Tends to struggle a bit if I am exercising on a hot day but otherwise seems good.

I haven't tried their other products.

Hi for natural deodorant that is easy to purchase I'd suggest Body Crystal which you can get from Woolies/Coles:

It used to also come in unscented but I haven't seen that recently.

The first ingredient after water is an aluminium compound.Which I think they are avoiding

Potassium alum is a naturally occurring sulfate mineral…. Seems pretty natural to me.

  • I've used Miessence deodorant before and is probably the best I've used

I've also tried akin from chemist warehouse which is ok

If u go to a chemist these days, there are lots of choices

Moogoo, Sukin and Antipodes are decent natural options for moisturisers. Moogoo and Sukin also have deodorants but it's always going to be a balance between natural and effectiveness. Natural ones are really not as effective. I can get by mostly, especially if I am indoors, but my husband sweats buckets and I don't think the natural ones would work much (he douses himself in Lynx instead, I'm not sure if the overkill spray is worse or the BO sometimes).

      moogoo +1

also is aussie so good to support them
their baby products are great too

  • I used to use Old Spice before they discontinued sale in Australia.

The only alternative I've been happy with is Brut Deodorant Stick For Men.

Kills the odour, and the gel helps it lasts the day for me on a pretty hot and active day, and smells great.
    Made in Australia too.

Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Water (Aqua), Sodium Sterate, Poloxamer 1307, Triclosan, Fragrance (Parfum), Aminomethyl, Propanol, CI19140, CI61570.

This range has worked best for me out of all natural deodorants.

  • I only use QV Naked roll on, fragrance free, aluminium free, There are 2, one is not alumium free, As for moisturiser, I have used jojoba oil for years, it is excellent

  • I have been using Deonat stick natural crystal for many years, works well and lasts a long time. Get the solid stick crystal, not roll on or spray they don’t work as well.
QV cream is a great cheap moisturiser

  • Eco Tan has great range of certified organic products including deodorant. (lemongrass)The deodorant is $19.95. For a cheaper alternative Sukin has an organic deodorant often half price with a beautiful fragrance.

  • I get itchy from aluminium ones, after trying a lot of different ones, now use Plunketts Deofresh which works alright. They have three scents, Original, For Her, For Him.

  • From the Sukin website on their natural deodorant

" If you have been using an antiperspirant it can take a few weeks for the armpit to detox, so keep up with it! Keep in mind you will still perspire with a natural deodorant, but it will be odour free."

I would rather not have the large wet patches under my arms.. smelly or otherwise!

  • I buy natural and unscented crystal deodorant. Like this one.
    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/85190/dermal-therapy…

It still allows me to perspire naturally but it creates a barrier to ward off any odour-causing bacterial. It has no scent so it doesn't clash with any cologne I might be wearing that day, if any. It's relatively cheap and lasts me almost 6 months

  • No Pong is an Aussie brand I love :)

  • +1

I've been using rock crystal deodorant for about 20 years since I first discovered it in Singapore. Doesn't cause me anywhere near the problems conventional antiperspirants did. And as a bonus, much kinder on your clothes.

    • +1

This right here. You won't get any more unsightly yellow armpit stains on your shirts.

  • I use No Pong

    https://www.nopong.com.au/

    Works ok’ish for me.

  • Another vote for No Pong for me. It doesn't stop me sweating, but it does stop me smelling from the sweat. Holds up (for me) with heavy exercise and music festivals. They have fragrance free options and Vegan options (basically free of beeswax I think).
