    A dog with a Camera.

  • Need more info mate.

In saying that Reolink cameras and NVR are very good.

    • Reolink are great value vs Hikvision & Dahua.

Do be aware the web interface for the Reolink NVR is not full-featured, and some functionalty is only possible by plugging it into a TV and USB mouse.

  • Can you be a bit more specific?

How many cameras do you want?

Do you want PTZ? What zoom level?

Do you need/want an NVR to suit? POE?

    Inside?

    Outside?

From a diy install point of view I like the eufy outdoor camera.

    Continuous recording
    Led light
    Magnetic mount
    Super long usb cable Inc.
    good night vision
    Good app
    No subs
    Good detection

      but the security scandal

    • @Jimothy Wongingtons
Which Eufy outdoor camera has continuous recording capabilities?

Something like this. A bit annoying there is no HDD but its a good starting point to look and they are not expensive or hard to put in (The HDD). the 4 camera package is in your price range. Its fuilly wired so unless you can do it you have to pay an installer. 4 cameras is fine on an 8 port NVR but i would not be sticking 8 cameras on an 8 port NVR.

I have a 3tb HDD and i get both sub AND main recorded for about 4 weeks at high frame rates (well the main is very high) before it wipes, plenty of time for holidays. The app is ok, the alert system works very well and programming the voice to bellow out at people is fun too! Once you get to work out the "zone" thing on the NVR it can be quite precise to stop multiple alerts when a fly goes past a camera too

Try to find one with a HDD? I have a 7 camera system from Hikvision very close to this one and its GREAT

If you just want one camera get a unifi G4 pro. 4k footage, excellent night time footage. That plus the DVR part will eat up the budget but you did say camera singular.

If you're not wanting to fully invest in a hardware system, the Reolink cameras are good.
For $30 a year, you get 30GB cloud storage to record footage to, with a maximum of 5 cameras. The capacity is set, so if you exceed it, old footage is overwritten.
Anymore than that, you'll need to subscribe to the next tier.

Good night vision is an open ended cheque. If you're wanting to see someone walking up the garden path, then these cameras will suffice.
If you wanting Jack Bauer capability, so you can read the labels on their jacket, then you'll need to invest in some high quality gear.

However, you can supplement any cameras capability by either having a dedicated IR spotlight, or more conventionally, using motion sensitive LED night lights.
These have a low level of light to illuminate, and light up on motion, giving your cameras a lot more light to work with.

I want Jack Bauer capability with the 24-hr count down on all the monitors connected to my NVR.

But in all seriousness, what would recommend in this price range?
I am looking at the Dahua TiOC 2.0 PTZ model, which seems pretty impressive with its predictive focus algorithm (PFA) when zooming into objects and people.
      For a $1K camera, it doesn't even come with a built-in mic.

For the more advanced / techie individuals - Dahua 5842 cameras connected to a computer running blue iris.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003149877591.html

Blue Iris integrates into OpenAI (people that make chatgpt) where any motion alerts run through an AI algorithm to determine if it's a person, dog, cat, etc… and then only notify you on triggers you're looking for. Blue iris sends push notifications to your phone so you can see within seconds someone at the door.

Tons of good information on Youtube / IPCamTalk (can reach out directly to EmpireTech / Andy for the Dahua cameras for a discount, but I believe he may be taking time off for Chinese New Year)

  • Hikvision

    • Hikvision with Thermal capabilities.

You want night vision, just install IR floodlights everywhere.
