Elegoo Saturn Resin 3D 4K Mono LCD MSLA Printer $425.99 Delivered @ ELEGOO Official Store eBay

100

Spotted this as I've been wanting a second resin printer (technically my 3rd now, but I wanted two Saturns) and found this had dropped in price again. Pretty sure they're clearing out stock as they have the Saturn S, Saturn 8k, and Saturn 2 now. But this is a great printer with a good build volume.

There's one on the store for a few dollars more - I reached out to them today to ask what the difference was but I haven't heard a reply. There's also one for about $419 from the elegoo_printer store, but it says it doesn't ship to me (Brisbane).

I think this is pretty close to the lowest price it's been in the past.

Reminder to not touch even fully cured resin with bare skin unless it is specifically stated as bio-compatible. Always wear gloves. Run it somewhere with very good ventilation or a fume hood/ghetto fume hood

    • Is there somewhere with more info that I can read about with not touching fully cured resin with bare skin?

      • Not really, companies don’t like disclose it. Assume all resin unless it has been demonstrated to be so I.e https://all3dp.com/4/blu-3d-printing-resin-is-now-biocompati…

At the very least, each resin will have a safety data sheet which will list the composition. You can research from there. I will point out my phrozen resins say "prolonged exposure can cause organ damage".

I wonder if these will be eligible for the 20% off eBay sale coming up in a few days

While a good price I'm feeling like the saturn 2 (or mighty 8k) is closer to 'endgame' print quality, so better to spend the extra coin since future upgrades will have a less noticable jump in quality.

    • You would think so right? Double the resolution on paper and all. But in real life applications you can't actually tell 4k and 8k appart. Check out this video, the guy has to break out a microscope and even then has difficulty telling 4k from 8k.

With this in mind, I'm leaning towards the 4k. Reckon the only reason to get the saturn 2 would be the extra build volume.

    • are you referring to avengers endgame what scene/timecode is that scene?

    • I wanted a Saturn 2, yr for twice the price and not actually twice the print quality - I’m happy with the original. I have painted a few models now from my first Saturn and I’m not aching for better quality since it’s so detailed.

  • I had a Mars Pro 2 before deciding to get a Saturn. The bigger build plate is super handy and I'm very happy with the print quality.
Though I did have some teething issues working out what settings work best due to increased suction on the FEP (only really an issue if the build plate is loaded up), it's a great printer and a really nice price.

    • I originally had some issues with fep suction. I can’t say for sure that this is what fixed it - but I used PTFE lube, and since then I haven’t had a problem. My other printer I got is a mars 2 pro, and funnily enough I’ve had more problems with print failures on that than I’ve ever had with my 1st Saturn. So I’ll replace the Mars with the Saturn once it arrives
