Canon EOS 60D $759 from Kogan - Is this a good DSLR deal?

Hi all,

Looking to buy my first DSLR camera.

I have sort of rounded it down to the Canon 60D.

What do you guys think of this deal?

Also in general, what is buying from Kogan like?

Help appreciated?

    i'd go for a 650D instead…

lots of small improvements over the 600D…

  • A Canon 60D is a different (better) camera to a 600D. Might just have been a typo in your post though.

Depend how serious you will want to do photography. This is ok for casual use.

But if you're looking for great shots I'd buy body only and get a good lens. All pro photographer would agree its the lens that makes a great image, not really the body.

But yes, 60D is a better camera in terms of functionality and battery life. But the same image quality with 600D.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys.

Sorry I got my models wrong.

I am leaning towards the 600D, but also looking at the 60D but with the potential $500 differential, I don't think I want to go that high.

I am a lifetime point and shooter, now just getting more serious into the hobby.

So based on that the 600D would be a significant jump already.

Checking the prices, Kogan seems cheap compared to Perth places, but I understand they to be Grey Imports (not saying GIs are bad).

So I will need to weigh up the risks.

    • If you're looking at the 60D, you should also take a look at the Nikon D7000. Slightly more than the 60D but gives you 7D quality and features for much less. Also the upside is you can go from Nikon to Canon and use the same lenses (with an adapter) but you can't go Canon to Nikon (because the Canon lens mount is slightly wider than the Nikon).

But most importantly IMO is you should really have a play with all the cameras you are considering and see which one you like best. Go for a body that you will LOVE to pick up and enjoy taking photos with. That way you'll be more likely to pick that camera up and actually shoot with it and get your money's worth from it. There's no point in going for a nice body on paper and go "I don't like how it handles" and not use it. Also the body doesn't really matter that much, as image quality is more about the lens and the person behind the camera rather than the body.
