Bought. Any ideas what i do with it?

    • +8

This is designed for some laptops with no ethernet ports

    • +23

Why in the heck would you buy something you have no idea how to use? What's wrong with you? 🤦‍♂️
It is better to feed your shopping addiction on stuff you genuinely need and have use for.

        welcome to ozbargain

        • +6

What are you meaning to say? Being on OZB automatically makes people stupid? 🙄
I was going to tell the dude that if he doesn't know what to do with it, maybe he should eat it. Lousy folks like this deprive people who genuinely need the item. Just because you're on here doesn't mean you need to be selfish and binge buy useless stuff to make yourself feel satisfied. A little bit of consideration and thoughtfulness can go a long way. Especially since we are a community here that helps each other score awrsome deals.
Rant over. Have a good day folks!

Being on OZB automatically makes people stupid?

Of course not. But, given sufficient exposure, it will happen. So be patient, and remember that soon you will forget why you ever tried to use your brain in the first place

@tharlow: I guarantee you I am guilty of making impulse purchases haha!
It happpens from time to time but never in my life have I ever bought something without knowing what it does. That is beyond dumb for me 🤦‍♂️

never in my life have I ever bought something without knowing what it does

Some people look at a thing and wonder what it does. Others look at a thing and wonder what it could be. It’s important to see the potential in stuff, even if it’s being unrealistic. We must all strive to buy stuff that’s outside our comfort zone of understanding, so that we may continue our education, and — above all — fuel the rise of inflation to new heights

                • +3

@tharlow: I like how you're trying hard to justify shopping addiction 🤣

          • @thousandsuns: Do you need a hug thousandsuns?

            • +2

@Paccers: I already got a hug from my mummy this arvo. Thank you! 😤

            • +2

@Paccers: Perhaps you should be less concerned about others on OzBargain, and more concerned about motivating the Shippers. We are all waiting to receive our stuff, even if we have no idea what we’re going to do with it when it finally arrives

better to feed your shopping addiction on stuff you genuinely need and have use for.

You don't know what addiction is, do you?

        • I do, and it isn't something to be proud of as an excuse for stupidity.
It's like saying you know what depression is but what are you doing about it? Feeding it or getting help for it?

          • -1

@thousandsuns: No, it's like you telling a depressed individual to man up and not be depressed.

            • +2

@DontNeedThis: Nah it's about getting help. I have both so I know how or what to do to treat it. If people are ignorant enough to use excuses to not better their lives or atleast try, it is on themsleves. Reducing enabling habits and situations is a good way forward to a successful recovery.

              • @thousandsuns: It's only $8 and a somewhat caused be Amazon Prime free delivery.

Let's be honest. The fact we are looking at it is that we are somewhat tempted. Just because we resisted this one doesn't make us no longer impulsive / fomo buyers.

                • +2

@netsurfer: Let's be real though, the guy is asking what to do with it, like it has 1001 uses.

                • +2

@netsurfer: Mate, I'm not tempted at all. I have zero need for it, lol. By purchasing something unnecessary, even if it is on a good deal, you've basically lost out on overall benefits in savings. It is like saying I bought this thing for $8, but never found any decent use for it, so now it is sitting away collecting dust or has been chucked away into landfill. Then later I bought something for $15 which usually costs $20. So my net benefit here is actually -$3 (loss) since I have to account for the $8 I spent on buying something useless just to feel like I won in life. I would have thought a true OzBargainer runs the math for every single transaction not just one? 🤔

                  • +2

@thousandsuns: I get what you are saying, but it's only $8 and clearly it is a FOMO purchase (and has something to do with the $3 one this morning).

Yes, he wasted $8, but a bunch of us wasted even more time trying to talk about why buying it is such a bad idea. Furthermore, this is really mild compared to a lot of people buying items due to FOMO so people who actually have some uses of them cannot get them.

                    • @netsurfer: Hes wasted $8 until he needs it and then it could be worth millions.

Get down from your high horse bud, there's nothing's wrong with me. Yes my fomo kicked in and i bought. But its amazon, free delivery, free returns. if anything a delivery driver gets to deliver it and earn a bit more, and if i return it AusPost gets to bill Amazon and bezos can suck it. Also based on my research and some genuine comments below, i'll try to connect this to my google tv via a hub, removing wifi dependence in the back room

    • Wtf lmao

It is clearly a fancy cat toy.

    • I don't understand, this thing has one use…

    • If you have a smart TV that has crappy WiFi connection and it has a USB 3 port on the back, use this to connect it to your router via an ethernet cable which will greatly improve your connection stability.

    • If you spontaneously bought the Fire TV with an OTG adapter then you can use this to add Ethernet support for the Fire TV.

    • +1

Many NEW TV's only have 10/100Mb Network Adapters in them. Eg. My LG C1! In fact, the wireless is faster than the dedicated network card.
Therefore, you can use these adapters to make your TV 1000Mbps, which is handy and piece of mind when streaming high bandwidth things, like super high quality stuff from a local PLEX server for example, or if you have an internet connection that is faster than 100mbps and just want the best connection possible from the TV.
Vincent explains it better than me here: https://youtu.be/PIef8iRZhLE

To add to this, I use a different brand (Cable Matters) on my LG C9. BUT not all dongles work with LG TVs.

Not sure about the one in this post, but I have noticed any adapter with a "Realtek" chip seems to work on my LG tv. The "Cable Matters" one that i use shows as "Realtek" adapter on a windows PC.

I stream 4k blu ray movies from my Plex Server, movies can be 50-80gb each. Most were OK with the 100Mbps TV NIC, but some weren't. I reckon a solid 100Mbps would be OK… but the NIC in my tv is so rubbish it would cap out around 80Mbps. First, I solved my streaming issues just using WiFi on the TV as the 5GHz wifi is faster than the 100Mbps NIC (because my wifi router is super close), then I eventually changed to the cheap 1Gbps USB dongle and it's been awesome.

Note: My LG TV only has USB2 ports, so I believe it can only run the USB3.1 (1Gbps) adapter at 480Mbps, still more than enough.

        • +1

Yep, good extra comments! This was my exact experience too. I have a Cable Matters dongle. Will see if this one works too.

Thanks OP. My son was just asking me how to fix the slow downloads on his switch console. this will do it.

  • Any ideas wether this will work with a pi zero if used in conjunction with a micro USB adapter?

    • +2

I would just buy a pi zero W

    • Not ideal because

      • Pi Zero has mico USB ports only so you need another adapter
      • Pi Zero is USB 2.0 only
      • Unclear whether you need to get a linux driver for it
    • +1

yes it does work, i have one attached to my rpi zero w running pihole.

I got the deal from 'i smell pennies' last time and connected it via a micro usb to usb A adapter.

  • +1

Thanks, hoping this also works with Sony Smart TV to by pass their outdated 100Mbs network port.

    • +1

It does. I use it on my X9000H and get 1Gbs

    • +1

What do you use your TV for that needs >100Mbs?

      • +1

Streaming 4k Atmos videos on Plex.

        • +1

yep very high bitrate 4K content lags really bad on modern day TV 100Mb ports and WiFi if your trying to stream it. these things fix it.

        • Interesting. Thanks.

      • Video game streaming maxes out at 150mbs with Gamestream/Sunshine -> Moonlight.

    It says $24!!

  • +1

must be me just being me, how do i add the coupon? showing 24.99 for me

    • +1

nvm, coupon appeared as usual under price tag - had to go to a "coupon" product and back to the page and it appeared

  • +7

If you don’t need it, just wait ;)

    • +2

Thanks. I don’t need it, will buy 3 later.

        It is the same chipset.

    • Whats the difference with the new model?

  • I can't see the coupon!
    Show full price for me

Not seeing any coupon on the Amazon product page at all…

  • +3

Deal is back for anyone who actually needs this - 70% discount coupon applied at check out is visible again!
Thanks OP, bought one for my 6yrs old Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon laptop. It was too thin they didn’t have an Ethernet port 👌

    • Can't see the coupon at checkout?

  • Anyone done a speed test? Interested to see if gets to around 110MB/s which is what a standard gigabit Ethernet port would max out at.

  • +2

    still active! not texpired..

    • I can't see the coupon so I think it is expired now

      • I ordered a 241 deal at $17 but it was literally the last one.

      • 70% off code still shows up ATM. I think it comes and goes. They probably have to apply it to a certain quantity and then when that quantity runs out the code stops, so they have to add it back again (just my wild guess - probably completely wrong)
