Hi all,
Have seen people at the beach and camping with mats or rugs made from what looks like malleable plastic strands
They are usually about ~2x4 metres in size
Can anybody tell me where this kind of thing is best purchased from?
I see some things on the usual suspect retail sites (catch, kogan) but they look quite 'trendy' and I suspect the same thing is available much cheaper from elsewhere.

There's a variety of products in this mat category. They are popular for matting under caravan awnings, tent floors, etc. Search for "caravan camping mats" and that should start you off on your search down various rabbit holes.
They don't look as pretty and they cost a fair bit more but if you want something to use on sand then you can't go past the CGear multimats. They look like shade cloth and sort of are a heavy duty version. Sand won't sit on top of them unless you deliberately pile it up on top and even then a bit of a brush with your hand and the sand falls through.
