If anyone is in the market for a new tent, BCF have dropped the price of the OZTENT RV-5 from $1699 to $999 (Save $700 / 40%).

Anaconda have also price matched, however need to be a club member. https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/tents/camping-…

Very rarely do these tents go on sale at such a saving, Tentworld are usually market leaders on price, however seems the bigger retailers have blitzed their sale price. Absolutely amazing price for such a great tent.

For that price it’d need to have room service

      • +21

These tents are also made in China..

        • -1

Hi Huey, I know you probably won't understand this, but you do know China is light years ahead of Australia?. Mean while shity rail and the Cumberland Highway in front my my house, has been a working process for the last 20 year's, literally. not to mention the joke Holden was in manufacturing. Don't knock a country when greedy companies cut cost to profit.. Been to china 15 years ago and was shocked how advanced they were even when compared to Japan.

          • -1

@dakum: Forget it dude. They don't understand.

    • If you do a lot of time camping you know there is lot of difference a good tent makes.

  • Good tent. Definitely worth the money if tent camping is your thing. Need to sell mine now that I have a caravan.

    • Alternatively, you could buy the attachment from oztent to attach it to your awning if it has a sailtrack and use it as a spare room rather than set a poxy annexe up

      • Yeah we have the caravan connector already since we used to attach the oztent to the 4wd awning. But don't have any need for an annexe currently.

Can tell you're a poor man pays twice kinda guy

      English translation?

      Define 'money value'?

Had one for years before our slide-on camper. IMO one of the best designed and manufactured tents on the market. Again, IMO anyone who disagrees doesn't know what they're talking about.

    • I agree!

  • I found this too small for a eurobed and a cot, for a family of 3. Ymmv

  • -3

Very poor quality. Does not stop bears

  • +1

Good savings, wish the RV3 was 40% off. I just want something small for myself, family has the van but when I go solo don't always want to tow. Tentworld 10% pricebeat if you try.

    • +1

They price match not price beat, how to get 10% off?

      • +1

My bad, it is price match, I forgot. I have had them match, Anaconda will beat, (obviously not in this case ) I got confused.

  • Can you live in this?

    • +5

      Yes as well as:
      Read books and magazines
      Read aloud to each other
      Card games
      Board games
      Crafting (knitting, sewing, drawing)
      Watch movies on portable devices
Play on other electronic devices (iPods, iPads, Gameboys, etc.)
Make up stories to tell each other
      Snuggle

    • My partner and I lived in this tent for 5 months while touring Australia about 7 years ago. It was great and when I got back to Melbourne I did consider continuing to live in it while returning to full time work so I could save for a house. You definitely could.

For anyone interested, these are fantastic tents and oztent service is top notch too (they've sent me out spare canvas for free two times to patch damage I had done to the tent…no hassles at all). They spacious and incredibly easy to set up, the downside is that they are very bulky even when packed down. For someone who camps frequently or is going touring I would strongly recommend this tent. If you go away for one or two weekends a year, I would probably look at cheaper options.

  • I've heard a lot of good things about this tent. Good savings to be had. I personally own a Blackwolf Turbo 240 Plus for almost 10 years now, never skipped a beat and still going strong and withstands rain hail or shine. i can vouch for buying once and not looking back. They retain their value for resale too which is awesome.

    • +1

I work with tents and the likes, I would take a Turbo Tent over an Oztent any day if the week honestly.

      • Can you elaborate on why you'd choose the turbo tent over the oztent? If you can't be bothered, then fair enough :)

        • +2

          He’s already inserted his crow

        • +2

          Sure can!
So most of my experience with them both comes mainly from repairs, both canvas and frame, however I have owned a Turbo Tent before purchasing a camper trailer.
I personally find the Turbo Tent to be sturdier, no plastic joins or corners as the Oztents have.
In terms of putting them up I find them both to be quick to pop up, though some Turbo Tents (240 plus range etc) have additional back room that require additional steps to setup but they provide more room than the Oztents do.

Really though, they'll both do the job at the end of the day, I feel it comes down to preference and what/how many people are going to be using it.
          Hope that helps!

          • @InsertCrow: I had a very unfortunate series of events camping last year that led to a 100ah battery sliding off a table straight through my turbo 240 lite main cabin wall. It hasn't been out of the shed since then as I haven't had the impetus to get it fixed, though I'm curious how repairable it would be? Can the material be sewed or glued together? I will have to pull it out to find the exact tears locations.

            • +1

@Hinee: I'll shoot you through a PM shortly mate

          • @InsertCrow: How do the two compare in terms of speed of putting up and taking down?

            And what about packed size?

            • +1

@prhino: The Oztent is faster to pack up and put down as it's just folding the two legs out and lifting up.
With the Turbo tent you need to unfold the legs, pop it up by pushing the middle up and then attatch the fly etc

I don't have either tent at the shop right now so best I could do were find packed dimensions via Snowys website.
              Turbo Tent 240 Plus Lite- 121L x 28W x 32H cm
              Oztent- 202L x 38W x 27H cm

            • +1

              @prhino: Refer to Snowys' videos.

RV is too long unless you want to put 30kg on the roof racks or trailer.

      • +2

I've had both tents. Oztent is much much better as it is sturdier, better quality and goes up faster. The downside is it's heavier and bigger folded up.

    • +1

I also own a Black Wolf 240 Plus lite. I've had it for 15+ years. Great tent and highly recommend. Because of age mine needs a coat of waterproofing spray and all the seams need replacing which I imagine is normal for a tent of this age.

  • +1

I'm tempted by this and I don't even go camping.

  • +2

That sleeping arrangement for five people though! How much do you need to hate someone to make them sleep near eight feet after a long day?!

    • +2

One person misses out on the action ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • They might have a foot fetish

  • BTW far as I recall it's free to become an anaconda member (and therefore one has to ask: why do they bother with all that 'member discount' shiz?)

    • +4

So they can send you marketing info, and to do that they need the contact details you provide when you sign up

      • +1

yep.. this is why I give fake deets

  • Looks like a quality system.

  • +10

Was excited about this tent until I realised it is extraordinarily long when packed (2m).. their video says 'easy transport in most vehicles' but that is likely only true if you have an unused seat you can fold down.. otherwise would need to go outside - probably on roofracks

    • +4

This is true. It's also quite heavy.

    • +1

Yep .. ridiculous length when packed. Would not even consider.

    • +1

To be fair the awning looks pretty good and you can get away without the gazebo.

    • +1

thats what put me off. Even on a SUV this would look big

Could you put this on a hatchback roof rack?? securely going at 110++

      • +1

Weight shouldn't be an issue on regular good quality racks. You can use these trays to help support them.

        https://www.drifta.com.au/product/oztent-aluminium-roof-carr…

Concern with a hatchback is will the tent overhang the rear of the car too much, and prevent you from opening the hatch while the tent is on the roof?

        • +1

oh yeah true that too. Its hard to visualise 2m on a hatch roof but imagine it would overhang pretty bad on both sides if centered.
I'll look at something that packs smaller - only need for 2 adults anyway but to invest in something decent

        • Those trays from Drifta have been out of stock for ages. I wonder if they actually still make them.

    • Yes the main downside is they are long when packed, similar to one of those Oztrail market gazebos. Pretty much your option is roof rack or trailer mounting. The Blackwolf Turbo tents is what you want to look at if you want something of similar speed / quality but have a better chance of fitting in the rear of a wagon. They still take up a LOT of boot space though.

  • +6

This Blackwolf canvas is also a good alternative (slightly smaller I believe). 55% discount down to $700.

Thanks for this mate, just checked it out and bought one after thinking about an Oztent RV for the last couple of weeks. I nearly bought the RV5 from BCF yesterday but didn't because it's just so friggin' long which is a PITA even with a 4WD. The great thing about the Black Wolf tent that tipped the scales for me is that it can be carried and stored more easily and securely and doesn't have to be carried on the outside of the vehicle getting wet if it rains, and it's a good tent from all reports. It's plenty big enough for a couple and $700 is a pretty good price for this tent.
      Thanks again.

      • those were my exact same concerns. Thank you both - I'll do some research into this blackwolf one

        • Personally I prefer the shape of the packed RV tents, easy to tie to roof racks to free up space inside the vehicle.

    • +1

I have the RV2 and the Blackwolf 300…

The BWolf can fit inside the patrol across back seats.. the RV needs a roofrack which is the only downside..

The RV is easier by miles to pack up but mine is the bigger size Wolf.

RV gives more options for walls, joins to the Foxwing awning to give you awesome coverage and you can add more to it

  • Great deal, I’m in the market for a high grade tent set up but this looks a bit small for my family, can anyone recommend something similar for 2 adults + 2 kids?

    • +2

Still consider it. You can add a whole room to the tent if you like.

I purchased the RX5 which comes with both rooms as standard.

I also purchased one of these to transport it

      https://www.drifta.com.au/product/oztent-aluminium-roof-carr…

The 2m pack up length and weight are the downsides.

    • +2

I use this for short trips with two adults and two kids. Enough room to sleep but not much space bags etc. Highly recommend the peaked side panels to enclose the awning for extra protection from the weather. With roof racks the RV5 isn't difficult to transport but wouldn't consider trying to fit it in a vehicle with the rest of the camping gear.

For longer trips we use a Jet Tent F25X which has plenty of space but is 30kg+ and not quick to set up or pack up. Wouldn't recommend for anything less than a 4 day trip.

    • +1

It depends if your base camping or just overnight camping….

When your camping you don't live in your tent - you spend more time outside… so if its only to sleep, then you can fit 5 in it, but you don't be getting a leg over without waking the kids

Many stores have them setup so you can see how much room there is..

      • When your camping you don't live in your tent

True but if you end up with a few days of bad weather it's nice to have the extra tent space.

  • Solution to the housing crisis.

    • Believe it or not, the location is the real problem

  • How much worse quality is the Coleman Northstar Gold series of tent? We bought the 8 person darkroom LED lit tent and its still in its box, sealed. This is about twice the price. Is it twice the quality?

    • +1

this one is canvas material, very duriable, lasts a long time, if you go camping a lot, i'd say its a good investment but casual/seasonal camper, coleman is good enough, this my opinion, i own 10P gold Coleman, it is good enough for me and I only camp probably once a year…lol

  • +2

Can't afford your new micro house build for $750,000 because you spent $2.5mil on 280m2 in Sydney.
    This is your answer.

    • Local council says no

  • +1

$1249 at Tentworld which comes with a free Oztent self inflating mattress (RRP $430).

Although probably better off going through BCF and then waiting for a deal on a Zempire/Exped mattress

    • +2

Tentworld also offer price match service

      • price match + free mattress potentially
    • +1

The Zempire MonsterMat is a great mattress

    • I just tried to purchase at Tentworld. Apparently you needed to add in the mattress separately. When I tried to do this it said out of stock.

  • Does anyone know if this will likely fit diagonally in a ford ranger tub?

    • a² * b² = h²

      • +3

        *a² + b² = c²

        • +1

Oh no. That's what I get for commenting hastily whilst on the toilet

    • +1

Doubt it…. I have the RV2 and I need a roofrack in the Patrol.. they are long but thats how they set up so quick

    • It would be very important to know if it's a single cab, extra cab or dual cab for a start. Might fit in a single cab tray.

  • One of the best designed tents ever….

    • Except for portability

      • +1

You cant have quick erection + small size.

        • That's what she said!

  • +1

Just tried to Price match with Snowys.com.au. Can't match the $999, so their price match guarentee no good!
