Oral-B Electric Toothbrush - Which Model Is The Best?

I have an Oral-B electric toothbrush (Oral-B Vitality CrossAction) and I want to change it, but when I look at the comparison of the models I can't identify the differences.

The only difference I see is the heads themselves. Can u help me please?

I thought about buying the Oral-B Smart 1 which is half price on Amazon. I don't know if paying a little more for a better model is worth it or if it's all the same.

Tks!

  • The newer model with the clock built in syncs with your phone. Which sounds silly, but it saves you from having to adjust the clock to daylight savings time twice a year.

    • I don't get how these "new" smartphone connectivity functions help with brushing. So many products now have these but they seem to do nothing other than just be a gimmick.

      • Updating the clock on the old one was a PITA, so syncing to your phone makes a lot of sense imo. Whatever else it does like tracking your brushing habits maybe is just extra.

Don't you just brush for a couple of minutes each day at around the same time? Does it make a difference if you're 5 minutes earlier or later the day before? Why does a toothbrush need a clock?

This toothbrush apparently has an RRP of $749… like.. wtf? If it brushed my teeth while I lay there, then maybe. But it's not - you still have to hold it and move it around your mouth. What the heck is AI recognition and 3D tracking really going to do?

          • @bobbified: Why wouldn't you want your toothbrush to have AI built in, a charging case, pressure sensors, etc.? It has a little colour screen in it that tells you "good night", what more could you possibly want from a toothbrush.

              @AustriaBargain:

…what more could you possibly want from a toothbrush

What I'm saying is that they've been adding all these pretty useless gimmicks to their toothbrushes that don't do much and then market it with a huge price tag. It seems that the electric toothbrush "matured" long ago and they've run out of ideas to actually improve the main function (brushing) any further.

@AustriaBargain: A charging case is useful if you're going camping but I can't see what use the rest is. Or are you being facetious?

@Quantumcat: A "charging case" is definitely useful, but that has been available on older models for a while now.

However, the "step-up" to a charging case 'that allows charging other USB devices' is a gimmick.

They're grasping at straws for new ideas…

I would say the main difference between electric toothbrushes as you go from cheaper to more expensive models are just in the smart features. E.g. timer, pressure sensor, analytics in the app.

On top of that the heads become more expensive.

I would not say it's worth it tbh, but that's me.

Anything with a lithium ion battery. The pro 2 2000 is usually the cheapest with a lithium battery afaik. The smart 1 is similar to the pro 2 2000. So that one on sale is a good bet.

All other models just have more bells and whistles, smartphone connectivity/features etc. They don't offer any extra performance. If you're unsure what battery it has generally the advertising will say 2 week battery life.
