Very good esky. I love mine and it performed brilliantly over Christmas/New Year.

    Delivery $35.95 :|

  • Is this not too small to be practical for a family?
Or is this just a large lunchbox carry? Asking genuinely.
I've been eyeing sale on this Dometic units, and I think the wheeled 90l one(or the 111L) is probably right size for family of 4 or a camping trip with few mates?

I've got the 71 litre version with 1 basket. Great for when we go camping and if I need to move it far I use a small collapsable trolley that I got on sale at Bunnings. I previously had an esky with wheels and they made it difficult to pack in the car, hence when it was time to upgrade I chose no wheels. I'm very happy with the time ice last in this even in the tent in the middle of summer. Currently on the patio with beers for summer drinks, only getting ice every 3rd day ATM.

      I have the 55L and the 111L.

The 55 is probably only good for drinks for a BBQ.

The 111 is what you would need for a camping trip.

Keep an eye on the Dometic Seconds website as the retail prices are absurd https://outlet.dometic.com/en-au

I think I paid around $180 delivered for the 111L

My family of 5 uses a 55L only, it would be nice to either have a 70L or just not need ice (i.e. get an actively cooked camping fridge) but overall we make the 55L work. We pack it full and use a towel to fill space as we empty it. Given we also replace the ice every few days and do small shops in between on our two week annual camping trip.

  • I went to a barbecue recently and a friend's friend had this basic black polystyrene/thermacol ice box which he used to hold ice and beers to chill. It worked a treat and I would be surprised if something so plain cost more than $30. I have been trying to find something like that to buy but have had no luck. I suspect that guy got it from Costco cuz he does all his shopping there.

      • Cheers! Looks similar but not quite. The one he had looked a bit more basic, was bit taller and didnt have hinges, just had a polystyrene lid that goes on and off (so just a two piece icebox in all). The BigW one doesnt look suitable to hold ice cuz it has parts that connect and thereby gaps for condensation to leak out

          • @Bakamonoda: Yes!!! Exactly like this. Just in black.

But I dont mind getting this in white for $12. Can deal with it looking aged or dirty after a while for that price

@0FoxGiven: Scout the local fruit & veg shops - often they give them away for free.

            • +1

@0FoxGiven: They work great but if you do need to move it around when full do risk the chance of it just splitting.
We had a plentiful of these, maybe they were just really old but if you weren't careful the whole side would just rip open.
              (Ours were from fruit shops)

I have two of these in different sizes. They certainly keep ice for 2 days or more.

The weakness is the carry strap. Thin material and cuts into your shoulder.

It frays and breaks too easily, yet they want $20 + shipping for a replacement that is just $1 worth of webbing.

    • +5

U can buy seat belt straps at bunnings. Cheap and good.

Go a little further and get a seatbelt shoulder cushion.

      Enjoy

Great price for this size- good find OP.

However, I can strongly recommend buying 2x of the 33L ones. More versatile and they are a lot taller. You can fit plenty of tall bottles/cartons standing up which makes a huge difference when playing esky Tetris for camping/road trips.

Two esky's works better too as you have one that you are in regularly, and the other filled with frozen stuff

Amazing Esky, can hold ice for a long time. Major issue is that carry strap. Whoever decided that carry strap was a good idea hates people.

    • +1

55L doesn't have a carry strap. Just handles.

      • +1

Oh awesome, it must be the smaller one that has the strap

  • That's about the price they should be all the time.

  • $47 shipping to Vic makes it a bit less attractive…

    • Check with BCF or similar stores to see if they can price match.

      • +1

Yeah after looking into it might go the 33L. A lot of places have that on sale.

  • Aldi just had a specials with a 55l icebox as well
    $130

  • We have one of these and we love it.

Agree that the carry strap is terrible, and basically useless.

We cut it, doubled it back on itself to make a loop and then clipped on an adjustable / padded carry strap from an old duffel bag to the new loops. Can be long enough to carry over the shoulder or short enough to carry in hand.
