"Work in" Laptop Bag for Lenovo Duet

Hi everyone,

my extremely active son, is starting highschool this year.
I fear his 11" Lenovo Duet 3, won't last long without a very sturdy case.

At first I was going to stick foam bumpers and whatnot, to the edges and the back of the screen, to help reduce the impact if the laptop fell off his desk.
However, after giving to more thought, I don't think sticking bumpers on the laptop, will make much of a difference. It will just make it more bulky.

I've now started looking at alternatives and am interested in so-called "work in" bags.
He won't have to remove the laptop from the bag, to work with it.

I found the Targus Orbus 4 at Bagworld, and it looks good and will likely fit well in his backpack.
Yet, I read some reviews about it being maybe a bit too slim.
Does anyone have this bag? If so, can you tell me if there's space to add a small wireless mouse to it?

I'm also open to suggestions if someone wants to recommend a different brand or model of "work in" bag?
It just has to fit in a standard sized backpack.

Thanks in advance :)

Never heard of a work in bag before. Keeping a working laptop in what's a padded and therefore somewhat insulated bag seems like a good way to slowly cook it and/or thermally throttle it's performance. Can't help otherwise as I've always just tossed it in my bag with a padded sleeve but just wanted to give my thoughts on those "work in" bags.

    laptop fell off his desk

Is this a common occurrence even for an "extremely active son"

I can imagine pulling and falling off a desk by snagging the charging cord (which this case isn't really going to eliminate but otherwise not really.
Plus all the downsides of the "Work In" case listed above, plus it looks super dorky so there's no way he's using it as you intend while at school!

  • He is, unfortunately, quite clumsy and impulsive and has dropped 2 laptops from his desk at his old school, already.

I guess the overheating is a problem. But I'm unsure on how else to protect it, if it were to fall on the ground.
Unfortunately, they don't have folio cases for Lenovo, only Apple devices.

Perhaps I can get him a "work in" bag and let him decide whether he wants to take the laptop out or not. At least it will be protected while in his bag.
If he turns the laptop off or puts it on standby during recess, lunch, etc, it will help with the overheating issue?

Fof reference, this is the bag I was looking at:

Please don’t tell me he’s getting bullied at school…

      • No, he's not getting bullied. He's got quite a lot of friends. He's just clumsy. He'll hopefully outgrow it.

    • Panasonic Toughbook might be your best bet.

      • That would be likely his next laptop. I just purchased the Lenovo one, a few weeks ago.
I'm just trying to find a way to protect it.

  • So you want a briefcase from the 80's?

    • I was just thinking - pelican or similar lol

    • If you have any suggestions on how to better protect the laptop, I'm happy to look into it?

      • Alternatively, just tell the kid if he breaks it, the new one comes out of his $ and it will be a Panasonic Toughbook.

  • Right. If only it was that simple.

    Thanks anyway.

  • Hi…I hope this comment is a bit more helpfull. I am in similar situation kid 11 starting high school and have similar concerns. At his new school backpack is put in locker and students take what is required to next class…which I think is really mainly be his lap top pen and exercise book. Everything is on laptop eg text book, homework daily lesson. I did not want the transfer from laptop bag or sleeve onto desk as I think this where accidental drops happen…then if laptop is knocked off desk etc. The IT expert at his new school said they repair heaps of screens. I bought
a STM Ace Always-On Cargo 13-inch to 14-inch Laptop Bag. https://www.harveynorman.com.au/stm-ace-always-on-cargo-11-i… I bought the one to suit 14 to 15 inch laptop. I think the one you posted might be more padded but this one the laptop base sits on risers to assist in cooling. I bought laptop through school BYOD program recommended suppliers and bought the extended 3 year extended onsite warranty and accidental breakage protection for Discounted $99 which I think is better protection :).
