Are these batteries the ones compatible with Worx/Toolpro/Rockwell?
I bought https://www.mitre10.com.au/rockwell-18v-pole-chainsaw-skin previously on sale but the XU1 has much better reach which is useful

Just a heads up with my warranty experience with the Aldi version (Gardenline).

The pole and motor are brilliant. But they use a plastic hinge. It went brittle and snapped.

I reached out to the supplier+Aldi email support. Was told I can only get a refund, or can pay $50 for a replacement complete head (as they don't sell the hinge). The supplier gives you heaps of attitudes. Said I was asking a 'a bit much' on a warranty claim on a 2 year old product (warranty is 5 years!!).

But since it was a skin only, I said I will be returning all my batteries I bought with it as well then. They changed their mind and offered a replacement. After 70 days it still hadn't arrived. Reached out again. 6 days later a replacement arrived.

However, I received a Ferrex brand replacement (far inferior) with a bulky motor that hangs out the side (which you don't want snagging on branches with a pole saw). Also uses different shape sprocket gears (so old chain doesn't really match/ bed with the Ferrex). So will need to buy another chain. How they can send a warranty replacement for a totally different product is beyond me…and again, got the usual attitude when I queried it with the supplier.

Aldi support were pretty good, but the supplier (as per label on the product)….So ..dodgy…

should have just taken it back to an aldi shop to get a refund

      • +1

agreed. I would still now take the ferrex back to Aldi, along with proof of purchase and email showing they sent you an incorrect replacement

    • Ngl, that was an enjoyable read lol

  • Battery Capacity: 1.5Ah Li-Ion
    Power Consumption: 27Wh

edit: is XU1 a Bunnings brand? The manual refers troubleshooting to Ozito support.

    • 2 mins usage time?

    • 1.5? Wouldn't even use 1.5ah for a drill let along a chain saw. Be choking after 1 minute. More reason paying up for something better.

    I will buy at $12.95

    1 year warranty
need a screwdriver to tension the pole saw chain instead of a knob

    • Yeah I'd go the ALDI version just for the warranty and there battery compatiblity in the eco system

  • Thanks! Just what I need. Snapped one up :-)

Dang. was hoping they'd use Ozito for the price match.

Dad probably get one, to go with all the other rubbish and million different chargers he bought from aldi and bunning special and just breaks after 2 use. With power tools, don't understand why ppl doesn't just spend the 100-200 bux more and get some good quality ones.

    • +5

Buy the cheapest that will get the job done. And if it breaks you use it enough to justify a more expensive one.

      • +3

Depends on the usage you get out of it. Why go with an expensive one if you are only using it occasionally or casually?

      • likely will also make each job taking longer, just breaks mid way, doesn't work as well as a more expensive tool and you less likely to take good care of it cause it's use and dump. You just spend more time and money in the end. Worser for the environment and clutters your house. Even if you just use it once a year every year, buying something like a ryobi will net you better value in the long run and each use.

        • +1

You have the benefit of hindsight.

People who have never had an interest or looked into these things previously are going to baulk at the higher entry pricing for the 'better' brands….and that's assuming they know which brands are better to start with.

Also some people buy things for a specific task, for which a better quality product that lasts longer may simply be overkill.

Your father may be my former colleague who frequently breaks his tools, burns extension leads, welding cables and his overalls.

many many years ago i bought an XU1 grinder, sander and some cheap dremmel knockoff. All still work fine. Some of these are so basic that for occasional use the cheap versions fine. Would have been wasting my $$ to have bought the expensive version back then.

Will this slice through a tree trunk or a branch (15 cm diameter)?

    • If you have patience and aren't trying to do a cut high up.

    • Will cut through 15cm like butter. No problems at all.

  • +1

These were being cleared out at specific stores before for $40. Don’t think we’ll see those kind of prices across all stores though.

  • Any idea if this can use the Ozito branded batteries? They appear to be a brand crossover (support contact details goes to Ozito?). Was hoping they would price match against the Ozito pole pruner kit

    • +2

No it wont use the Ozito PXC batteries.

      • Does anyone know if there are adaptors to use Ozito batteries with XU1 tools?

        • Won't be long until there is one. I'd never heard of XU1 before this post.

    • +1

No and that's the sucky part. At least with the aldi equivalent you can use the battery on other tools.

  • +2

    makes ozito feel premium

  • Will this work to pick fruits (paw paw) from a 3-4 metres tall tree? What other ways to get the fruits, other than climbing up a ladder? Thanks.

    • -5

      Hire a scissor lift.

      • Doesn't make sense to hire equipment everytime I want to pick some fruits for myself and family.

        • -2

Then it looks like you won't be eating the fruit.

    • surely you could just tape or strap a knife on to the end of a pole for that

      • ugh, just imagined how wrong that can go

        • +1

got to be better than trying to use a pole saw to cut down a pawpaw

    • +1

      Google "plastic bottle fruit picker".

Did the ozbargain thing and bought one to try it out - if it sucks bunnings have a great return policy so why not.

Was worried the 1.5Ah battery would be completely useless. To my surprise, it came fully charged. I cut a 4m tall hedge for about 15 minutes. Still have full charge left - I'm puzzled

Edit - TLDR: Did the job but It's plasticy, toy-like similar to an ozito but blue instead of red. Thinking of buying a 4Ah battery for funsies as it lacks grunt. (coming from a Makita + Ryobi user)

Stupid question…for those who bought this, did it come with the chainsaw oil or did you have to buy separately? This is my first ever chainsaw. If bought what do you recommend?

    • Don't know if it comes with anything. Probably not. Just get some bar and chain oil.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/powerfit-500ml-bar-and-chain-oil…

That Bunnings link is just something quickly searched for. There might be better deals or oil elsewhere.

    • you probably want to learn how to sharpen chains as well because they go dull after a while

    • It's adequate for small jobs. It lacks grunt probably because of the included small 1.5ah battery. I just use old 10-30w engine oil from my petrol whipper snipper. It's slightly messier because of the lower viscosity and you have to top it up more often
