Hey Perth peeps, my mum's flat plate solar hot water just died after 30 years of use and she's asked me to find out what the best option is for her hot water. She lives by herself and has a 6.6kW solar PV system, so there's a fair bit of export, especially in the summer. After a bit of research here, I'm thinking a resistive hot water system with a solar PV diverter/relay is actually the best option cost-wise. But, I have no idea how to find someone to do this. The installer of the system would also have to remove the old solar hot water system on the roof. So, I'm guessing it would need to be a company with a plumber and electrician, with experience with solar hot water systems? Can any Perth folks recommend someone that could do this work of installing the resistive hot water system with a solar PV diverter/relay and removing the old solar hot water system for my mum? Solar PV with relay for hot water is great. Have one at home. Can recommend at least for Qld.
I dare say you’ll be able to find a solar installer that can do the relay and they can work with someone to install the new HWS.
Relay simply fits in the meter box, just like a circuit breaker.
Fronius do a relay and when in Qld worked perfectly except for the capacitor / which died twice in 3 years. Now in WA its pretty much all gas
