CT Scan for Pet Dog of Abdomen & Chest

Hey Guys,

Around 14 months ago my Husky had a large liver mass removed. This involved CT scans initially and then an operation a day later.

Unfortunately, there is a possibility that the mass removed was cancerous (They noted its highly likely) and my dog has lately been disinterested in food & seems more lethargic than usual. He is 13 years old. Blood work has been done & though most markets look ok, one of the liver enzymes is highly elevated. Somewhat similar originally back 14 months ago

The CT scans 14 months ago were around $1300 dollars. I've been quoted by one place $2200 for the same equivalent scan and another place quoted a ridiculous $3500-$4000 bucks for the scan.

Would anyone know somewhere to go that is reasonably priced when it comes to CT scans for Pets? I am based in Melbourne and willing to travel

13 years is a great innings for a husky. Sometimes we have to do what's best for them and not us.

Source: I've had to make that painful decision too many times.

All the best with your decision.

Not many places would have a CT. Could they do other cheaper tests first to help you decide the next steps? X-Ray or Ultrasound?

Sorry to hear you are going through this. Can't help with specifics of costs, especially Melbourne, but the prices have certainly risen in the past 12 months (like any industry). Just make sure you are comparing like with like (ie what does it include beyond the ct itself, is a specialist imager reviewing the ct etc)
Unfortunately x-rays or ultrasound won't give as much detail, but should not be excluded completely (eg if looking for evidence of metastasis to the chest).
However, you do need to ask yourself what would you do next, if it was, say a regrowth of a tumour. If you wouldn't consider surgery, then imaging is arguably an academic exercise. However there are other conditions (albeit less likely) that could potentially be managed medically.
Chat to your vet re options.
    Good luck.
