I was looking for the larger black variant of the Garmin Fenix 6X BingLee have it on special for $599

Price matched at JB-HiFi for the same price picked it up @ https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/garmin-fenix-6x-pro-sport…

(Save $148 from everywhere else)

This is the 6X Pro (Which is the larger one (X) with black face and black band).

There are currently other deals for the carbon grey with Sapphire face https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/garmin-fenix-6x-sapphire-… , but if you want it black and save $97 this is the cheapest I found.

  • why the massive discount? How old is this watch?

    NVM, fenix 7 is out

    • +2

The generation 7 is out now, which apparently for professional sports enthusiasts has a few more nice things. However, the cost of the generation 7 is around the same price.

I actually think Bing lee has made a mistake because I can't find this watch anywhere else cheaper than $747

The battery life on the X verison is significantly better too. LOok at this:

    https://www.tomsguide.com/face-off/garmin-fenix-6-vs-garmin-…

    • Thanks mate for sharing! Yeah the X is the way to go in the 6 Generation line :)

      • +1

Only if you're a "larger" gentleman.

The none X is already pretty gigantic on the wrist !

Love my Fenix 6X Pro. Picked up a refurb one from Amazon UK for under $400. It came brand new.

Slap on a screen protector and you good to go instead of buying the sapphire editions.

    • Did you have to do anything with the maps? From what I can remember, there was something about having to install your own local maps

  • -1

to tempting i only bought a apple watch last week. but i think i need this haha.

  • bummer, no binglee in VIC :(
    doubt jb will price match

    • In the OP's post he said he priced matched at JB so can try your luck

    • +1

      There is… in Wodonga. :P

    • +4

Just go to chat online at JB-HI Fi website and select price enquires/price match.

Show them the 2 links and your good to go!

      • So you don't have to go into a store to price match at JB? How do they honour it, do you have to buy it from them immediately online

        • +3

They will give you the custom link from where you can purchase the watch… The link expires 11.59pm on the same day.

  • I always thought 6X is too large, but now kinda wanting the larger watch face. Bought the medium size last year, so have to wait for another 2 years for 7X price to come down. :D

Is this the Sapphire model? Binglee's RRP $1,399 suggests it is, but JB's RRP $1,249 says otherwise.

Checking the Garmin website, it seems Pro is the standard. Goodness, they made it quite confusing. https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/p/641435/pn/010-02157-02

    • 6X Pro does not have Sapphire. Just get a screen protector it's not as big a deal as people tend to make it out it out to be. Mine has taken a beating diving, swimming, running, gardening and been knocked about a lot.

  • +1

    I have the 6X.
Fair amount of price gouging going on here, it was released in August 2019, cripes even the 7X is over a year old.

    • +1

I often wonder are the Fenix 6 on the market all old stock, or are they still making them? It seems there is a never ending steam of 6's on sale.

    • How do you find the sizing on your wrist? I tried it on and thought it was huge but undecided between normal and S

      • +1

I've got the Fenix 6 and my bro has the Fenix 6X… I'd say for an average size or slightly above person you'd just want the Fenix 6. I'm 6"1 about 90kg and its big enough… my bro is probably 6"2 and 110kg+ and the 6X looks ok on him. It'd look stupid on anyone else… it's pretty big.

      • Do you where regular watches? Cos the 6s is already on the larger side. I have a medium to large size wrist and went with the 6s just because that 38 to 42mm size seems to be the sweet spot for me. I could get away with a 6 but I didn't want it to annoy me for long distance activities.

May also want to think about whether you want to be able to wear it to work (under sleeves/not stand out - 6s) or whether you use the maps a lot (6x has much more viewing real estate).

    No sapphire no thanks

  • Is this solar? I don't know much about Garmin watches but I like the idea of a solar fitness watch

    • no, this one is not solar.

    • The Solar versions don't add a lot more battery in addition to the extremely long battery life in the non-Solar versions. You will still need to charge them. IMO I don't believe it is worthwhile paying the premium for that feature and many tend to agree on Reddit and OzBargain.

      • +1

Ah fair enough! Thanks for the feedback.

  • A dump question: are these sports watch better than smart watched like Apple Watch?

    • +1

These watches are designed for extreme sports, so if you're not into sports and just want a watch to track your daily workouts and have features like notifications and contactless payments, you might want to consider getting a regular smartwatch instead of spending money on one of these. They might not be the best choice for you if you're just looking for something to use for your daily workouts and want some smartwatch features.

    • +1

This one is a proper sports/fitness watch with smart functions. Apple watch is a smart watch with fitness functions.

The major differences on this watch:

      • No touch screen, all functions control by 5 physical buttons (easier when on the move).
      • Transflective always on (sunlight visible, but requires physical button press to activate backlight when in the dark)
      • Much longer battery life, typical usage over 10 days.
      • Compatible with ANT+ sensors (heart rate monitors, power meters, etc.).
      • Limited app support.
      • Limited foreign language (incoming messages in certain foreign language show as ???).
      • Much more rugged than typical Apple watch (not comparing to Ultra).
  • Be weary, I cracked my 6 (Solar) and have not found a cost effective way to repair the screen.

Garmin offered a like-replacement with a refurbished item for a hefty $$ tag.

It will cost you circa $500 to have the screen replaced through Garmin. - price is due to shipping cost to USA

    • +3

      How did u crack it?

      • I got pushed back on a wall with rendering, very slow backward movement. - face on the edge of the ring must have hit a peak in the render

I picked up the Sapphire Version of this at JB HiFi for $496 ($696, but receive a $200 JB coupon)

Wouldn't that be better value? If I recall the Sapphire models are the same as Pro models, except with a far more durable screen, which they usually charge a premium for.

    • Got a link?

      • I forgot to mention it was part of the JB Hifi boxing day sales. I was going to publish a deal for it on New Years Eve, but someone already did here in a cluster of JB deals:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/746692

No longer available, although the price of $696 remains the same.

    • How did you receive the $200 coupon?

The 6X Sapphire and a bunch of the 7 / 7X models had a bonus offer of getting a $200 coupon back.

IMO that should've had it's own deal page on OzBargain, instead of being clustered with the same old TV discounts.

  • As someone who has a Samsung phone and will probably continue to get samsung phones, should i be getting this or a galaxy watch? Im probably only going to be using it for smart watch and step tracking purposes. Maybe heart rate or blood pressure, but im not dead set on those.

    • Garmins are better. They can do all the same phone integration stuff, except Garmin Watches are built like tanks, especially the Sapphire models. They also have insanely good battery life.

      • Samsung have a few more health things they can do to like ECG that Garmin can't.

I have the Garmin but my mum has the galaxy and for things like heart rate and bloody pressure monitor Samsung is much better.

Garmin is better for endurance runners or cyclists.

    • They're totally different - don't buy one of these if you want an "extension" of your phone.

This is a fitness watch that can link to a phone. The battery easily lasts a week, and it's got buttons not a touchscreen. You can use it fully without ever even connecting it to a phone.

The Galaxy watch mostly just duplicates the features your phone already has 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • If you are big on fitness, get Garmin. I moved from my Samsung Gear S3 to this, and it is leaps and bounds better for the fitness aspect. I am currently doing a 10K training program with Jeff, the coach I selected.

Plus I don't have to worry about charging mine for over a week.

Chasing fitness Badges is addictive, and has helped motivate me through that gamification angle. It is keeping me engaged

I am currently tracking the below activities:

      • Running
      • Walking
      • Kayaking
      • Badminton
      • Beat Saber
    • I use a samsung phone with a garmin watch, and most of the time the watch does feel like an extension of my phone.
Very handy for seeing notifications as they arrive, and dismissing those I don't care about immediately using the watch. Quick replies can also be really useful if you put a good amount of thought into which phrases will be most versatile for how you text.
Also timers - not really a phone integration thing but I almost always set timers using my watch rather than my phone.
Using built in music on the watch is another phone-replacing feature that makes a huge difference on runs since I have a large phone so can leave it at home.
The battery life is a huge win for me. I've been tempted by galaxy watches in the past, but I can't imagine having to charge every 2 days at least. The buttons also make abig difference in usability as I sometimes don't even need to look at the watch to operate it.
The one shortcoming that sticks out to me is not being able to use my watch to take a call if my phone is on the other side of the house.

  • This was the same price for the black friday sales from JB hifi but it also included a $2000 jb gift card.

    • It was $747 - $200 JB voucher that needed to be used by March 2023 = $547 during BF sales.

  • Very tempted to pull the trigger as this will be my first smart watch, but a bit iffy about paying that much on a 3 year old watch.

  • Most of the garmins on sale at the moment are 3-4 yrs old, with the old elevate sensor. And even then they are overpriced! Waiting for newer models to go on sale…. after they have cleared out the older models.
