Donation Charity Bins Goods/Clothing After-Hours?

Is there a site for database/crowdsource of charity bins near me for after hours drop-off?

Tried https://www.charitybins.com.au/map/ recently, but it didn't list the company of 2 bins nearby that were overflown, so I question the comprehensiveness and want more inclusions. Also that website isn't working at the moment for me.
I don't believe retail charity shops in Vic have bins out front anymore either…

  • Check your local shopping centre? Both of my local westfields have charity bins as soon as you enter the carpark and then another set closer to colesworths.

    • Yup those were the 2 other bins near that I mentioned.

I could possibly hit a bunch of other centres, but would be better to check availability ahead

Watch out as there are "charity operated" bins and "charity bins run by commercial operators" that donate to charity.

The ones to donate to are the "charity operated" bins if they are near you otherwise the other ones instead of putting the cloths in the garbage.

  • Arrange a collection by Diabetes Australia. Book online and they will collect from your residence (no need to be home)

  • I suspect they won’t have enough resources to go logging the status of all their bins. And even if they did check them and update a status they’d have no way of monitoring wether it’s full before the next check.

  • Check your local primary school. Two in my location have it.

Either drop it off at the store during normal business hours, or you're just passing the cost of dumping your rubbish onto a charity.

I would not be too surprised if there would be less places that accept donations right now, because of the Christmas period.
Volume of donation goes up, number of volunteers go down, so I've seen bunch of places that couldn't accept donations because they ran out of space in their warehouse.

Probably nobody working at most op shops this week. Don't drop anything off until you know they are open.

Worth noting that some bins are actually just placed there by random companies, which might be why they don't show up. There were a couple near me that were illegally put there and weren't related to any charity. It took months for the council to remove them.

As always, make sure your clothes are actually good quality otherwise it's just going to the tip. One reason I like upparel, it costs money but they actually sort out what is good to reuse and send it to charity stores, but they also recycle the crap stuff into insulation/fibres for furniture.

If it cannot be sold as is at a shop, it's probably not in a "good condition". I think that's a good way to think about it.

As a sidenote to people who are donating, please don't abuse the volunteers/workers who are there to support the charity store.
They would have no saying whatsoever on whatever the charity is spending the money on, whether the item is good enough to be sold.
