Oh come on, it's NYE, have some fun.
sir, this is a Wendy's
I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.
For that look you would pay me to get one.
Why would they make such a big end grain panel? Can cut it up and make 6 -8 chopping boards.
Why would you chop it up for chopping boards? Total waste of wood doing that. If you're after a chopping board, get a bamboo one from woolies or something. Teak is a brilliant hardwood that can be used for a LOT of jobs
Chopping boards were the first thing that came to mind when thinking about end grain boards.
What other applications would an end grain board be usefull for? Can't imagine this making and good table top.
you could do what this guy did :L randomly found it on my feed
@leelemon: Can't open the link.
This is an ideal construction for chopping boards especially for expensive high end Japanese knives with very hard steel.
The teak is durable and grain structure makes it ideal material for cutting boards, and the fact that it's end grain means it's gentler on the knives.
Retail price on a small 40 X 40cm of this construction would fetch easily $60-$80.
So it's not a "waste", it's actually a good deal for that purpose. If I anyone came around to my house and used my knives on a bamboo chopping board I'd take that bamboo and smack them over the head with it, and ban them from touching my knives.
I'm a butcher by trade and know all too well about chopping blocks and end-grain being gentler on knives. Apple wood is what you're after for a decent chopping block/board. But why waste teak on something like that?? Pointless
Be aware, though, that it's 40mm thick, and very few Bunnings stores have a table saw that can cut through that.
My table saw can cut through 80mm just fine. Although I'm not suggesting anyone cut up this board for chopping boards.
Why’s that?
Great; just post your address and we’ll all bring our boards around.
@chrism238: Bunnings sells dewalt table saws that are more than capable for these tasks. However, it will be difficult to feed such a heavy board on a table saw. A circular saw is more practical.
@agentsmith1999: Bunnings will cut (most) timber that you buy, in store, for free. I was never suggesting that anyone buy a table saw to cut this!
The one at casula was out of order a few days ago when i last checked
Otherwise my crappy ozito one can do it, although it's a bit bulky. Maybe a circular saw would be easier
bunning use panel saws with 12” blades, not table saws. i’m sure they can cut through it just fine.
Could this be used as an outdoor table? E.g., slap on some legs, maybe a bit of trim or some reinforcement to stop it bowing… would the laminate/glue survive the elements?
You would have to seal it with something, otherwise it will probably go to shit pretty quick
If it's underneath a pergola and out of harsh sun, it will last longer
Wow thanks for the share OP. Even at $149 I'd buy it. Future large cutting board project for sure when I get my own place
Price has changed, they are now marked at $270, but they scan up at $149.

😏
You can have fun with my thick long slab of wood for half that price so this is not a bargain.
