Even better if you stack with the current 10% off eBay giftcard deal.

  • Question for someone who has this set. Can it be used without the rear speakers? I really don't want to start running wires in the house again.

    • +1

      rears only need power

      • +1

I know, i have read some reviews and know that they are wireless. But still need wires, kind of, even if only for power.

        • You can set them as front facing. If you dont want to use them as rears.

    • +4

yeah if you dont plug them it, it still runs fine. I've got the Q930B. It's better to find a bar that's just the bar and subwoofer.

Great price. I paid $930 for the Q930B

    • +3

Yes it can, the bar works fine without, but you really don't get the most out of it if you don't have the rears set up

    • If you are actually asking if there are "any" wires connecting the sound bar to rear speakers - the answer is no. The rear speakers obviously need power, and hence need to be plugged in to a power socket.

      • +1

I wasn't sure if the rear speaker are really wireless. SUch as the JBL 9.1 set or if they need a power source.

        Thanks for the reply eveyone.

        • How do they run without a cord at all? Battery?

          • @Burnzie86: Yes, they are rechargeable. You can connect them to the soundbar to charge.

    • +1

I have them. I haven't tried not using the rear speakers but the main soundbar is plenty loud for any room you want to put it in. You can also place them in the front and place them as front speakers in the SmartThings app if you want.

      • +4

You can also place them in the front and place them as front speakers in the SmartThings app if you want.
        That definitely would be ideal.

    • +2

Go fir q930 and dont plug in the rears.

    • I have this and you don't need the two rear speakers running for the front and the large subwoofer for it to work.

    • You San set the mode to “front” and use them as front speakers

    • Yes, it works fine without the rear speakers.

    • +1

Yes, will work without the rears but the surround sound effect is gone without rear speakers with this soundbar. If you absolutely do not want to run any wires then get a soundbar that has no rear speakers from factory that creates virtual rear surround or one that bounces sound of rear walls if your room is right.

    • Works fine without the rears connected if you don’t want to use them

  • +2

This is a good deal, wont go for it as I just paid $540 for the Q930b.

    • +1

can you link to that deal? thanks

      • -1

Staff discount actually. Limited to 1 per calendar year per staff.

        • Yup i got the q930b for $580 during black friday sales. Q990b at this price is so tempting. If I didn't purchase that one, I definitely would have pulled the trigger here. Great deal.

    • That's a great deal! I got the Q930B for around 680 last month. Is this an worthy upgrade?

  • Does the Q990B have Amazon Alexa compatibility on the Australian version now?

I previously had the Q950A in which only the overseas version had Alexa compatibility.

    • Yes I've got Alexa linked.

  • can i connect this to an audio interface

    • One would hope so, as an audio device. Did you have a particular interface in mind

      • focusrite scarlett 2i2, i think it can't actually..

  • +1

What rear speaker stand you have or going to buy?

  • The $143 delivery fee kills it for me! (with Ebay Plus)

  • Where do people hide the sub? It's huge.

You can put the rears in the roof couldn't you? Just put cut outs facing down.

    • The rears have 3 drivers facing in 3 different directions.

    • Sub goes anywhere, on the floor next to the tv stand seems to be the most common spot.

    • I put the sub next to the couch, its awesome it shakes the couch in heavy bass content. Subs are more non directional tben the rest of the speakers, they can go front or back no issues.

  • Pulled the trigger.. last yolo purchase of the year.

    Long delivery though!

You should get it by 24 Jan.

    • +1

I ordered from powerland. Est was 20th of Jan delivery. Ordered 28th Dec received 30th Dec thats from NSW to Melb too

      • Still waiting for the package sent notification! Killing me haha

        • Update.. literally about 2 hours after I posted that comment I got a message saying it’ll be delivered tomorrow.. about 12pm today it was delivered 😂

  • Any good deals on HW-Q930B/XY ?

    • i used the same code on it and got it down to $600 from $650, not the best but its something

      • +5

I’m assuming you’re talking about the Q800 and not the Q930 that Renq was asking for.

Q930B listing price is $899 when I checked. The coupon only takes $50 off.

  • I really want to have this, but the lack of HDMI 2.1 is the deal breaker.

The Sony x900h limited 2.1 means I would really like to expand my input ability, but lacking the vrr passthrough (not that x900h does this well) is limiting me to only one functional 2.1 port when the earc 2.1 is used by the soundbar.

Sad that a 2022 high end sound bar doesn't have the 2.1 ports yet.

    • What about if it has earc?

      • Only Port 3 supported earc

    • Got updated recently, both HDMI port3 and 4 support hdmi2.1.

      • Yes, leaving only 1 port after using earc for sound bar

  • Any ideas when the new models will get released?

  • +1

Anyone using this with non-Samsung TVs and does it work well? Thinking about this for the parents who have Sony from a couple of years ago.

    • +2

I've got it with my Sony A80k and it's great.
No issues with controlling it via the Sony remote.

      • Oh man, this would be perfect on the 80" you have!!! I guess eARC helps here, thanks mate.

    • +1

Works flawlessly with the LG C2

  • +1

    I paid $1252 in June for Samsung HW-Q990B/XY 11.1.4 Soundbar & Wireless Subwoofer - https://www.thegoodguyscommercial.com.au/samsung-1114ch-dolb…
    Great sound, worth the money

  • -4

If sonos arc with sub was almost same price as Q990b , which one would you choose?

I know for fact that Q990B has amazing value over Sonos and Boss but i just can’t convince myself to get one due its look.

Q990B is just so ugly and bulky

    • By the looks of it, you’ve been cancelled m’man!

    • There is barely anything between the two. I had the arc and q950a last year, sold both and replaced them with q990b & a dedicated HT system for the theatre room.

If like to spend more money and get same performance go for the sonos for the looks. Looks are subjective and i can live with sammy knowing the alternative would be spending extra $1500+

    • -2

Get a decent TV, and stop watching the speakers.

  • This item have dedicated inputs this time and not the circa 1999 input cycler like the Q90R?

  • Been looking at this for a while, finally pulled the trigger!

  • Should I get one or wait for the new model next year??

    • +1

You'll have to wait a year for it to drop to this price.

  • Running a Yamaha YAS sound bar currently in relatively small apartment. Would this be worth the upgrade? The rears would have to be on either end of the couch as it’s against a wall

    • Just upgraded to this the other week from an old Yamaha 5.1 setup and was very sceptical about soundbars but I'm converted. Sounds great and the rears a must when watching atmos movies. Don't think you'll get anything better sub 2k

  • Anyone manage to get jb hifi or the good guys tonprice match? Ive got some tcn gift cards burning a hole in my pocket.

  • I just recently bought the q800b for $569 at JB and can recommend as rears can be added if necessary but sounds good with just bar and sub.

    • I didn't even know that JB stocked the Q800. Their site only shows Q600 and Q700.

      • Must've been trying to clear stock as is now back up to 1099 with GG

  • I'm guessing something like this would be pointless if I can't get the rear speakers actually behind me, as in they would be to the side of me instead level with where I sit.

    • +2

Definitely not pointless, further to the rear the better but sides will do

  • Samsung Q990 or Bose 700 or Sonos Arc?

    • Thats easy. Q990b & sonos have very neck and neck performance but q990b will cost you about 1000 to 1100 and Sonos Arc with rears and sub @ 2600. I dont know about bose but its definitely not better than these two. And again more expensive than the sammy

    • +1

If you have a supported Samsung TV, definitely this.

      • Yea i have a frame.

        • Then I think samsung is the best soundbar option for you.

Assuming the sounds of the frame are similar to the S95b OLED, the sounds of the TV are decent. I actually prefer the sounds of the TV over the soundbar's for dialogues. I downsized from a Yamaha Atmos Reciever with Kef fronts+centre - so the soundbar alone is nowhere near that.

But when you use the soundbar+TV mode (Q-symphony), it's pretty good. I think the best way to describe is that feels like the soundbar extends the audio capabilities of the TV rather than the other way around.

According to reviews, this is a pretty good soundbar - so I don't think there's any other soundbar at a reasonable price that'd beat this paired with a compatible TV for Q-symphony.

Presonally, I'd have loved it if they let you add your own front speakers to the mix - I wouldn't miss my AVR at all if this was possible.

Dang, just paid 1150 last at ggs, got them to price match last nights cheapest ebay price of 1190. Sounds awesome though no regrats.

  • Are the rears just for Atmos surround sounds? Are they required for music or non Atmos movies?

    • Depends on how you have it setup, mine work even listening to music and watching any movies.

      • Can the soundbar be set up to recognise when the rears are not being used? I'm just wondering if I can use it without the rears until I sort out the space behind sofa.

        • +1

You can put them in front and then in settings it lets you set rear speaker placement as “front”

        • Yes works fine if they are not connected

  • +1

While this is a great price, good luck if you ever have to deal with Samsung for warranty repairs. I bought a soundbar in December 2021 (brand new and current model at the time), and it's failed 3 times within the 1 year Samsung manufacturer warranty due to the same issue each time. Samsung wants no part of it and isn't offering to fix/replace it, even though they've tried to fix it 2 times already without any luck.

    • What was the fault?

      • We wanted a soundbar that had arc support, so got one. When we'd have the TV connected by hdmi through arc channel, every so often the sound would stop working, but, annoyingly enough, it was intermittent. The first time it happened was 6ish months after we bought it, then about 4 months after the first repair, then 2 days after the second repair. Restarting the soundbar and/or TV would only fix it ~5% of the time, if that.

We could turn the soundbar off and the TV speakers would kick in and it'd work. We could also connect using an optical cable and it'd work flawlessly, as well as Bluetooth, but they aren't through the arc channel. Even unplugging and replugging the hdmi cable wouldn't fix it. Same thing happened all 3 times it's had this issue, which is kind of a deal breaker since we literally can't use it with hdmi when it's doing this :-P

        • Bugger. Have you managed to confirm it is definitely a HDMI fault with the soundbar and not the TV? We have two of the LG SN11RG Atmos sound bars, and am contemplating changing to these as the LGs stuff up our wifi when they are on (known issue, and have tried changing channels on our router but still causes too many issues.) Wifi issue aside, the LGs have been performing well in the Theatre running on the AppleTV and projector, and was running fine in the Living Room on our older Sony TV. Just changed the TV to a new miniLED TCL and now having all sorts of HDMI issues, so is it possibly your TV like our issue is?

          • +1

@Maximum64: When we first had the issue we had no way to confirm if it was the TV or soundbar, but for the first and second time it went to the service centre for fixing, they said they had the same issue happened for them when testing the soundbar. I guess it is technically possible the soundbar and TV are both at fault, but since they've already confirmed the issue happens for the soundbar, we haven't bothered checking the TV for issues since no other hdmi port or cable do has any issues
