These are great, had mine for a couple of months now and love it! Not cheap, but worth it.

Magsafe is too much proprietary for me. Buying expensive chargers like this further cements you into the ecosystem, which is getting way to expensive.

      • +1

If you already have an iPhone, Apple Watch & AirPods or even an older iPhone to charge on the qi charger then there’s a good chance you’re already cemented into the ecosystem.
Also it is great for travelling - a good all in one.

        • +2

then there’s a good chance you’re already cemented into the ecosystem.

Yes, but by having all these proprietary lightning ports and magsafe charges make it a real bold task to change ecosystems, if you wanted to.
I have an iphone and an apple watch myself, but i hate how Apple is allowed to get away with so many things, especially since they have been chasing Microsoft and Google for much less things.
Anyway, i'm way offtopic but i cant not think about that every time i see magsafe chargers and cases

  • +1

If you don’t need the watch charger it’s only $78 for the 2 in 1.

    • +6

I wish they dropped the airpods and kept the watch charger

      • The plus side to the airpods charger is it's a generic Qi charger so can charge non Apple devices too… if they fit.

        • +2

Left my iPhone sitting on it one night (the iPods charger), and to my surprise it was charged in the morning. Shame it doesn't work on the Apple Watch though…need to have the specific Apple Watch bit for that.

          • @Banj0: That's because MagSafe is just the magnetic holding system.

The MagSafe and 'airpod' charger use the same wireless charging technology (Qi)

            • @spaceflight: so does the watch, but whereas Apple added their little secret sauce into the protocol that blocks charging on the watch, on the phone they allowed it but deny charging at full speed.

        • Thanks for that. I can probably charge my galaxy z fold 4 on it. That means we can use the one charger for everything on our travels

  • +6

The faster watch charging on the newer model is probably what sets this apart from generic models… So if you have a series 7+, it seems like a tough proposition.

    • I've never found the watch charging speed to be an issue since I really only charge it overnight (battery seems to last a lot longer than my previous OG and 4th gen). It's just tidy and reliable which is what makes it compelling over generic models.

  • What advantages does the Belkin have over something like this which is currently about half the price and seems to be more compact?
Also, does the Belkin include the charger?
(Maybe I am not looking hard enough but I can't see any info about this on the listing)

    • +2

The one in your link isn't magsafe, but this one is. I wonder how this compares?

      • Yes, the one I linked to just uses gravity to rest on a ledge rather than magsafe, but some of the reviews say the Belkin magsafe isn't strong enough for the heavier "Pro Max" phones anyway so this might be a safer option if you don't want a "dropped" phone.
The one you linked to is also cheaper, includes a wall charger, and looks to be more compact than the Belin one.

        • +2

No issues with my 14 Pro Max here. I went genuine Magsafe for this reason (vs generic magnetic chargers) as I was afraid of a dropped phone.

          • -1

@jace88: Do does MagSafe work if you have a plastic/rubber case on your phone? I have a feeling you have to have the built in MagSafe compatible case bits for it to work? I have an iPhone 13 Pro and have never tried it, I assume my phone also has this?

            • +1

@Smol Cat: It will charge but it doesn't stick with a case. You need a MagSafe case for it to stay put.

            • +1

@Smol Cat: It needs to be a MagSafe compatible case (ie has the magnets in the back) for it to be reliable. Some slim cases may work but hit or miss. My Spigen Ultra Thin for example did not work, but you can buy the MagSafe rings on eBay/Amazon/etc if you don’t want to change your case but IMO these are less tidy since they’re essentially stick on and will make the back of your case no longer smooth/flush. I bought the ESR rings for my wife.

              • @jace88: Ok thanks for the info. Bit of a pain though since I’d have to replace both my wife’s and my case if we were to get into this MagSafe stuff.

Is it worth the cost in you opinion or just a bit of a gimmick?

                • +1

@Smol Cat: Honestly for me I really like MagSafe stuff and have bought into other accessories too eg wallet, magnetic ring, battery pack, etc… but YMMV.

If you aren’t dissatisfied with your current setup maybe wait until you change phones and cases, and then buy into the ecosystem.

                  • @jace88: Pretty happy with our cases now, just the car mount holder suuucks. These MagSafe ones I see are looking pretty snazzy. Is it a trap I wonder.

                    • @Smol Cat: Haha I had to change my car mount when I got my 14 Pro Max which wouldn’t fit in my previous “gravity” one. The MagSafe mount from ESR works a treat now.

                      • +1

@jace88: Yeah I ended up getting the ESR case adapter and the drop down mount for the dash from ESR. Used it recently and it's very good, happy with this purchase. Can never go back to a mount where I have to plug the cable in manually now like a pleb!

    • +2

Yes, it does come with a wall charger.

  • Thanks, great price.

Looks like OW stock this exact model at $219. Are they likely to beat the price by 5%?

    • +1

They should provided model numbers match!

      • Looked to be OOS in my area, so ended up buying via Amazon with eGCs for a further 2% off.

        • Ah bummer! Still a good deal regardless!

  • this one $149 for a long time and has worse review than previous version.

  • I’ve had this since it was released in 2020 and I’ve been using it every single night.

Charges both watch and iPhone overnight and because of the matted surface, it doesn’t not appear to cause a MagSafe imprint on the back of leather cases like the normal MagSafe charger which has a metal ring.

  • -3

Just get the 2 in 1 Belkin for $78. I don’t see the logic of paying extra $60 plus for the addition of watch charger. The 2 in 1 has the same 15w charging capacity for iPhones.

    • +2

How do I charge my watch then?

  • What's the difference between this one and the $175 one?

    • This one doesn’t have a fast charger for apple watch compared to the belkin 3 in 1 (Flat model)

      • -1

As an owner of the flat one, that is a PITA. The phone charger MagSafe does not charger even after it clicked with the phone. Takes multiple attempts jiggling the phone around to get the charging connected.

        • +1

I was about to pull the trigger on the flat one. Guess I will hold out. Waiting for the anker 3 in 1 MagSafe cube to hit Australia

        • I have the flat one (got it over this sculptural one for ease of travelling with it) and I have no issue charging my phone with a cheap ESR MagSafe case on it, it snaps into place each time.

          • @anniemal: I am not talking about it not snapping into place. I am talking about it not making charging connection every time and often needs shifting around a bit. Nothing wrong with my MagSafe case because it snaps and charges every time with my car’s ESR magsafe charger.
I am not the only one it seems, some users reported a similar experience e.g. https://www.target.com/p/belkin-boostcharge-pro-3-in-1-wirel…

I bought this through Apple (to make sure I got a real one). The charger for the phone did not work well with my phone case. I took off the outer portion of the phone case each night. It would still take me around 2 minutes to get the phone to sit on the charger so that it was charging. When I pulled my phone off the charger today, it was dead. so it hadn't charged. RETURN!! the apple pods and watch work well.

            • @Buy2Much: It sounds faulty, mine has never not started charging immediately after snapping into place.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just price beat at Officeworks, $135.84 after extra 5% off.

  • I have the newer one with the faster charging got it at JB for $155 a few months ago

    • Yeah you’re right about that, it was $153 for black and $144 for the white I think

    • Great price - by newer one, do you mean the one that lies the devices flat, and doesn't have this stand?

  • -2

Great for people addicted to tech shop displays, I could imagine myself waking up and turning over looking at my gadgets and thinking I woke up in Big-W’s tech section.

  • Does this make a coil whine noise while charging?

    • +1

      Nope. It’s silent.

  • What’s the difference between this one and the one below? Model number appears the same?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08XYW9BQM

    • The price lol. It’s the same product.

  • When I was browsing Shein the other day for new year/X'mas formal, noticed a few similar chargers(was thinking of replacing my Apple watch charger) at a much lower pricing scale. Was it because Belkin's more reliable? I wonder if Qi tech's complicated enough to pay the extra to ensure the safety or longer battery life of my devices.
