Boosting TV Headphone Jack Output - Audio Inline Amp for "Deaf" Dad

Hello, I've got this problem:

the headphone output of my dad's new TV is directly proportional to the TV's volume.

the speakers and headphones output at the same time.

so dad wears the headphones cause he is deaf, and if he uses the speakers only it's way too loud for the household.

so i think teh solution is, i need some inline amplifier for my dads headphones. this way his headphones can be way loud and the tv speaker volume can be super soft and normal ppl watching arent vocally injured.

is that a good solution? if so, do they exist at a cheap price or am i better off making my own one with jaycar parts for example?

or can u think of any better solutoins

Thank you

  • What type of headphones do you have. I had some wireless ones for my dad, and these had their own volume input. It sounds like you may have wired headphones

  • the ones my dad has are wireless too, with their own volume. but even on the highest volume it's not enough (because the volume of the tv speakers becomes too high)

    thanks :)

  • If he's actually deaf, there ought to be a suitable setup from the Deaf Society (whatever it's called).

But you're right, a headphone amplifier would also assist your current setup
    Take your pick from here..

    Of those, this looks decent:

    and
This is cheap (but you'd need to hack in a power supply):

    • ah cool man! thank you. will look into them

my friend had an idea that i just use my stereo. i.e. use the line in and headphone out on the stereo.

      Cheers

  • +1

Imo fiio improves the sound quality/clarity, but doesn't dramatically increase the volume - ymmv.

    • ah thanks for that.
