      Idk why people don’t downvote?

Eufy literally got caught sending video to their servers.

They had FACE RECOGNITION and NUDE detection….

      • +6

Downvoting is highly discouraged on ozb and punished. Most people don't bother anymore.

        • +2

Yep I've been banned for voting completely

        • +3

Pro consumption, anything that threatens that is not allowed

        • When I joined this site I didn't realise how seriously people took upvoting and downvoting. It was funny when I downvoted something and got 'reprimanded' for it because I didn't give a good enough reason for my downvote

          • @x x: It's a conflict of interest to OZB. Gotta keep the money taps open.

That and work it like Whingepool, epic fail.

If only this place would focus on quality sales, not just, it's $2 cheaper than anywhere else, so get ya toothpicks today before they run out.

            • +1

@Sheep Whisperer: Yer it's funny to see people go crazy over those $3 vouchers

      • +1

        @Larson
They never sent video to their servers. Please give us a link that says that.
Also where did you get NUDE detection there is NO such setting on the app. Please supply link.
They send thumbnails BUT as I have said before you can set it to just send you a txt only.
The Homebase 3 which is this one does NOT have that issue.

        • -5

here you go, before going around randomly claiming stuff that you have no idea, maybe google first.

They Tag faces and send that to their server UNENCRYPTED….

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ssMQtKAMyA

          • +1

            @Larsson: @Larson
WHERE on that youtube does it say VIDEO AND NUDES were sent as you stated earlier?
It says images as I STATED above thumbnails .
SO who randomly is claiming stuf?
Feel free to neg as the truth hurts.

            • +1

@costas60: yeah, apologies seems like I misremember the nude part.

Face recognition part is correct tho and your face is tagged with a universal ID, which means even if you walk in front of some other users eufy device it will still recognise you and will upload to their servers unencrypted. still equally bad but you are right, I do recollect the nude part incorrectly it seems.

I can't edit my original comment tho, perhaps a mod can cross it out or take out the word all together…

      • -2

it's ozb not product review. A bargain still a bargain minus your person view of the brand or experience on the product.

        • +4

Part of the reason I use ozB is the comment section and the different experiences and view points … That then adds to the broader decision making process for me and possibly others.

        • The bargain depends whether saving $300 is worth compromising the privacy of your home or not.

      • +4

Tell me more about this "nude detection" feature…

        • +1

I can show you. Just login to my unencrypted RSTP feed because eufy has made that a thing.

    • +6

sold by f digital (direct import)

It’s not worth it to save $11…

    • Nornally i like saving $ but ….

Shipped & Sold By F Digital (Direct Import)

    • I wouldn't buy from there. I had to put in warranty claims twice for cracked lenses and 1 that stopped charging

  • +1

I actually wanted to buy a kit but it’s only available for delivery for me. None in metro Brisbane.

Ps it was actually $1599 at good guys yesterday but now no option to order it online. Might be worth to give them a call to order it if you can wait or live chat jb to price match seeing as they are owned by same mob…

Also this model is exclusively stocked at jb/good guys.

  • +14

I can't help but feel that Eufy security products have been on sale a lot recently after they got caught out for major security flaws and for thumbnail uploads of videos.

    • -6

AFAIK the series 3 homebase is not affected by the thumbnail so called flaw.
You do not have to send a thumbnail you can set it to just receive a txt.
other similar products the whole video is held on the cloud and it would have a greater exposure to been hacked.
I have had this system installed for over a month very pleased so far.

      • +1

Is this system affected by the flaw that if the reset button on the camera is pressed it clears the footage from that camera on the homebase?

        • +2

          Keen to know too
It’s one thing to hold the button and reset the camera, but why on earth does it delete everything on the homebase too :/

      • I purchased it and found its only slightly better. Most times I didn't capture the face although its clearly visible. Returned it for a refund.

        • Why was that happening?
          face blurred, over exposed?

        • Yeah I've read this a few times….what did you go instead?

          • +1

@Grimy: Nope, the face was clearly visible and for quite a few seconds but nothing was picked up. It did reduce the false alerts and vehicle detection is indeed better but not worth the cost of the upgrade.

Sticking with my existing Gen 1 Homebase

      • +1

        Agreed, you can disable thumbnails.
But what about the unencrypted live streams from people's devices that people can view in any old player like VLC? There is no option to disable that, major security flaw when they are claiming end to end encrypted video streams.
It's a shame, I really like my Eufy camera, but I won't be buying any more.

    • +1

Everything has been on sale lately….

Pretty sure all your comments are the same message.

    • +3

Stay at home and dont go out and dont use the internet.

      You'll be fine.

    • Yet you upvoted the deal?!

I'm actually surprised you hadn't spouted something about Eufy being a Chinese company…

  • +1

I managed to get this from The Good Guys for $1599 with about $80 'store cash' credit. While it shows online as out of stock, you might be able to order this in store. Good price if you're happy to wait.

    • +1

I did too, I called them to order

    • How do you score $80? Thought per the terms and conditions of the contract one is required to take delivery by the 2nd Jan 2023.

  • I want this set but can wait until it gets to ~$1200

  • +4

But it costs more than my contents value

  • Is this HomeKit compatible?

  • Have this fixed the bug/feature that when a camera gets stolen and reset, it will lose all the saved recording in the homebase? Therefore you can’t see who stole it?

    • Only way around that is to pay for subscription

      • Fk subscription based!!

    • +2

Nope still reset. Just put it high enough u need a ladder to reach? Or put a dome around it.

  • Any deals on panic rooms?

  • I’ve got the 2 cam set and it’s been good. 1 doesn’t get heaps of sun but the solar is good enough to keep it charged at 100%.

    • Are your cams in direct sunlight, or can they still charge in the shade with indirect sunlight

      • +1

It's only in direct sunlight for a very very small portion of the day because of the way my house faces and the angle the cameras are positioned.

  • +1

    Eufy alternatives?

    • maybe reolink?

      • +1

Reolink app is dog shite. Eufy app is definitely better in that regard. Most likely Ring and Wyze also better.

        • What about arlo?

          • -1

@CauseNEffect: Never tried arlo as I don’t like the idea of having to pay for “advanced features” but I’ve seen them in use by a neighbour and they’re kinda gimmicky.

Wyze might be better as the cost is a lot less.

If google made a higher MP camera is use that as they have 24/7 cloud recordings which is kinda worth it. But they use 2MP 1080p and it’s about the worst footage I’ve ever seen.

            • -1

@checkingthisout: Gimmicky on your neighbour's right..

These gimmicks work well for many people all over the world.

Features that work are not really gimmicks btw, the setup i have is pretty damn good and has been extremely useful in and around my home.

4K video with smart features is a nice addition compared to non secured competitor solutions.

              • -1

@CauseNEffect: Cool mate! Sounds like you’ve never actually seen or tried an NVR or a wired system properly in your work or house. So of course. Enjoy the gimmicks that you understand. 👍

I wonder why businesses use wired Ethernet cameras. 🫠

Eufy battery camera and arlo is a gimmick.

Eufy 24/7 wired is not a gimmick.

                • @checkingthisout: Plenty of businesses use wireless security systems these days. Have a look at walls when you are out.. i see arlo and eufy systems regularly.

Solar panels keep batteries charged and a decent Network and Internet setup ensure connectivity to the camera's isnt an issue. I get immediate push notifications to my phone whenever someone or something enters my property.

No doubt wired has its benefits but also drawbacks..

                  • @CauseNEffect: Battery cameras all have lag and cool down periods to conserve battery. They can miss critical events. They also only trigger on detected motion instead of recording 24x7. Even many wired cameras don't do 24x7 recording. I had 3 Reolink battery cameras and 1 Reolink wired camera in my front yard and all 4 cameras failed to record who stole the stuff I left out for charity collection when it went missing in the middle of the night. Even a cheap $100 DVR using analogue cameras would have captured this.
Now I have both set up. I'm tempted to redo my DVR setup to use them as my main cameras because the Reolink cameras often fail to trigger. I do have some Xiaofang cameras with Fanghacks installed and they are now 24x7 recording and cost less than $20 each

                    • @0 0 0: There are sensitivity settings that need to be set to ensure a good balance of dmart notifications. I personally dont want 24/7 recording and am happy with event based recording. The lag and cool down you refer to would be around 1 second in a practical sense in my setup. My cameras get everything from neighbours cats to posties/ delivery people and the occasional miscreant (inner city living).

The system has paid for itself many times over, imo.

Not all systems are fit for everyone and every purpose.

  • +3

Won't trust Eufy. Can't even admit to it after getting busted.

  • +4

Gonna have to vote neg based purely on their dodgy privacy and security.

  • +2

I really wouldn't buy eufy at the moment

  • Aren't this supposed to be installed outdoors? In that case who gives shit about privacy. If you all care about that no security system is good for you as all will be storing something on their servers to make it work.

Also, if you are that bothered about outdoor privacy, don't do anything outside.

I am not advocating Eufy in anyway, just mentioning stupid reasons people have to say about privacy.

    • +4

      No. (profanity) no.

      1) none of your data should be uploaded to cloud no matter what it is. I don't care that everyone is doing it, it shouldn't happen. It is your data, it should only ever be (profanity) moved with your consent, especially with things like facial recognition, so they could shadow profile you and sell your data.

      2) Eufy knows that their target market really care about privacy.

      3) they got questioned about it and they lied through their teeth.

      4) they got busted and tried to deny all the whistleblowers.

  • +1

No one commenting on the 365 day battery?
You are lucky to have 30 days of battery.

And at the end you will be buying the wire kit again to make it a wired wireless.

    • +2

Battery cameras are not real security cameras. If people want to use Eufy. The only one I could recommend is the outdoor pro 2k wired. Cause it can be run off of 5v solar and battery, records 24/7 and has instant pickup of motion detection because the sensor is always on/recording.

  • -1

After going through this. Battery cameras outdoors are pretty much useless for fast moving subjects. These cameras take 5-10 seconds just to power on. Then the camera records for like 15-20 seconds. Useless if someone is moving fast enough.

Get 3/4 Ubiquiti G4 Instant + cloud key Gen 2 pro. You can run them 24/7 off of a Romoss battery + solar panel.

The reason to recommend ubiquiti even if it costs more is the app is locally stored, but can be accessed via the app or a browser remotely.

That is $1150 for the cameras, NVR, + batteries/solar. Get a SSD for speedier scrubbing.

You don’t need 4K. What you do need is 24/7 video and instant detections. 5MP is more than enough. Although I would recommend 4K if ubiquiti 4K cameras weren’t a ripoff. You can scrub footage almost instantly and do second by second scrubbing for a full day.

G4 instant with $199 - $20 use code Namaste (one time use)

    https://cctvguru.com.au/products/ubiquiti-unifi-protect-g4-i…

    • thanks mate, helpful post.

can you link to the 'Romoss battery + solar panel' you are talking about? is this one thing on the roof running everything, or individual panels for each?

    • Mine starts recording within about 2 seconds. Issue is not starting time to record. Issues are the reset button and random disconnections. For $500 for a set of 4, which is what i paid, I'm happy. Have been considering pairing with a 24 hr recording camera. Best solution would be one that also has a sim slot as backup but yea..money.

      • what model/setup are you using?

I think the new 4k solar ones in this deal have a serious lag (according to reviews on JB Hi-Fi)

Seems the 2k solar ones aren't as bad (according to reviews on JB Hi-Fi)

Not sure if the HomeBase is relevant in the lag either

        what model/setup are you using?

        • 2c pro i think. Homebase 2 iirc

        • If the device is recording to the homebase it helps with play back. But in general it’s the wake up time. There’s no way around the fact the device is asleep and has to wake up. That’s why if you can wire a camera. Even if it eufy. Definitely do it. Experience is 10x better.

    • Your experience does not match mine.

I have solar wireless cameras that can do 4k and if anything are over sensitive at times. No 5 second delay for recording.. more like 1..

Eufy might suck but not all brands are equal.

      Try Arlo..

      • Tried the eufy 4K at a friends. Walk fast enough and you’ve missed it. If the person is walking within 3-5m and going sideways to the camera, walking from edge to edge such as a garage door opening, the cameras already missed it. Delay time was not 1 second. Go look at reviews where they test pickup time. Not 1 second on theirs either.

Battery cameras cannot pickup long distance. Because that would drain battery. What a Reolink, eufy or ubiquiti wired camera will pickup at 15m eufy will be lucky to pickup at 5m.

Battery cameras are not the same as they’re technically asleep.

Don’t mislead people into thinking it’s 1 second to wake. Not even possible without draining battery life.

Notice the recording picks him up seconds into his actual walk. And then notice the pickup distance isn’t that good around 30 feet in broad daylight. At night it would be 15-20 feet.

You’re paying $1600+ for the 4K cameras? You can get 4x 5MP ubiquiti cameras and a NVR from ubiquiti for less and it’s about the best NVR software I’ve ever used with 24/7 and great motion ai detection.

Again, battery cameras are not security cameras. Security cameras record 24/7.

Not happy with EUFY, IOS 16 on 14 Pro Max and when playing back footage my phone crashes and goes to apple logo. Been happening since release date and no fix still

    • +1

They also have a static audio problem on iOS 16 it seems.
