The screen is absolutely fabulous. This is the best laptop you can buy at twice this price. I'm not joking.
Waiting for the i7 version to be this price
The one with an i7-1260P? You'll be waiting a while.
The one with an i7-1165G7 has been $899 before (two years after it released)
Don't think it worth the premium, unless they out 32GB of RAM into this =( which I don't see it happen until 14th gen 🙏
It's absolutely worth the premium for the build quality. You could probably save $200 if you were really lucky on an Acer or entry level lenovo? But if you can spend the extra, these feel glorious. Solid but not heavy, and most importantly you don't have to uninstall a bunch of junk out of the box!
The only annoying thing is I can't find any way to limit it charging itself to say 90% rather than max. Unless of course they have some other battery tech in these that don't need it.
I think OrenjiO was saying it isn't worth the premium for the i7 version of the M15 over the i5
@reloxation: Ohhhh. Oh yeah good clarification haha. I take back what I said =p
No point in waiting
Thx for the link. Curious about i5 has higher score than i7. Also thought i7 is better than i5 if they are the same generation.
I would guess that throttling is the main issue. The i7 has higher clocks and with the same core config and is therefore slightly more powerful but it isn't any faster in the 'real world' which is what CPU Benchmark is showing.
Nice. They both use the same iGPU
What's the kb like on these? I love the higher end Thinkpad kb's, are these comparable?
Keyboard not that good to be honest. Off center presses do not always register.
Awesome feedback, thanks
@TightLikeThisx Thanks for using the word "keyboard" as I didn't know what "kb" stood for 🖒
I was asking about kebabs
The other deal a few days ago was $815 and similar specs, if not better.
This has a larger screen tho.
You can get that anymore and the build quality on the M15 would be miles better.
I don't think that had an IPS panel though, and yes it was smaller.
I am also never buying an HP Pavilion again after the bad experience I had with one several years back. Pavilions historically have poor internal design.
The reviews on the model are very good from various websites.
It's also over 20% cheaper.
This is upgradable ram, then that's a good bonus + larger screen.
This is also 1.7kgs. The HP was 1.4. Two different beasts. Probably both great deals though.
This also comes with faster DDR5 memory and Thunderbolt 4. So I suppose it is worth the extra price.
@ttkc: I paid $750, this isn't worth $250 more to me lol
But that's me
@[Deactivated]: The HP you bought was also one of the best deals I have seen so far. Enjoy it.
@ttkc: Exactly, but theyre trying to argue with probably the best laptop deal of the year.
Oh they're negging me, such cry babies.
@[Deactivated]: Well u bought a up… Lets see where u stand a year later
@overlook: Pretty sure it'll be fine, people pick cherry the few complaints out of tens of thousands of units
People only come online to whine, they don't post positive reviews.
@[Deactivated]: Have you owned and used both?
Im literally about to check out the i7-1260p with 1TB. If mostly for web browsing and watching youtube, is it worth the extra $300 to go from i5-1240 500gb to i7-1260p with 1tb? Bummed it doesnt have a numberpad though
Same ram? If 32gb would be worth the extra.
Why do you need 12th gen i7 to browse and watch youtube?
Its more the 1Tb, and wouldnt mind touch screen
1tb seems excessive to your needs, just get some network storage setup.
I am in the same boat. Want the touchscreen but dont want to pay $300 for it
You don't need i7 for that workload at all. If you need the storage, sure go for it. Although, a few years of a cloud storage plan would be around the $300 and thus better value.
I think the power consumption on these CPUs aren't great.
i5 is excellent, i7 runs a bit hotter. I own and use both (work/home). I guess you're going to ask why do I need two, and the answer is I don't want the company I work for control the device I use in my own time.
Anybody know if this is touchscreen or not? Can't seem to see it so I assume it isn't
No, only i7 is touch
Good to know, thanks
Is the RAM upgradable? Is it as bad as Intel Macbook pros dealing with heat?
RAM not upgradable. Cooling system in these is meant to be otherworldly good according to many reviews
Cooling is good, but I think that it never gets really hot, especially the i5
Can this Laptop run MapleStory?
May I please ask how warranty work for this laptop. I plan to buy this laptop for my little brother from oversea. I saw it has 2 year manufacturer warranty but unsure how to claim outside of Australia. Does that company under any particular name to ask?
THANKS
U need to ask that of the company to get an answer you can act on. They wont honor OzB advice.
Intel's 2 year warranty is between Intel (the seller) and the reseller (the buyer, ShoppingExpress in this example). If your laptop develops defects during the warranty period, you'll lodge a ticket with ShoppingExpress who will arrange for a repair/replacement.
Intel's limited warranty PDS can be found here, English section is page 33-35
Intel isn't responsible for handling your warranty claim if you bought it from SE as ShoppingExpress is not an Intel Authorised Distributor in Australia
The warranty that Intel provides for NUC laptops sold by authorised distributors is different as it is 3 years long, and you are provided with an option of contacting Intel to start the warranty return
So it's up to ShoppingExpress if they want to offer an international warranty or not, you can only contact them via email which takes a day or two to respond to, and I'm probably going to guess they don't as they only ship to Australian addresses
OOS when trying to check out
Not a fan of 15.6.
16" inch is the sweet spot for dual windows on the 1 screen & 13.5'-14' for portability (minimum size to fit 2 windows).
yes I have studied this for ages.
Of course who would of thought of making a notebook with good parts and not scrimping to save $1.38 would lead to a solid laptop…..
Looking at dell, hp, asus, acer, etc.
where's the $&% #%%& ^&&^ ^ #^*# rtx3060
I was curious of how the Intel i5-1240p would compete against i7-1260p and found this by Josh:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F-y8ElW473s
Initially I was thinking of purchasing this deal. After watching this video, I went with the i7-1260p deal instead.
The thing is, performance benchmarks just don't mean that much on laptops like these compared to desktops. If I was going to do video editing or rendering on a laptop, I'd want a dGPU at an absolute minimum.
As for Battery Life, I'm just not believing that. There is obviously something wrong with the battery on the i5 laptop.
Says out of stock once in the cart?
Any comments on the reflective screen??
For those who bought the laptop, how is your experience on using the laptop outdoors
$1034.10 delivered via Computer Alliance eBay with code PLUSFLASH4
thanks for the post, bought it :)
Says 11th Gen Intel processor on the ebay deal but 12 on this one? Is that an error? It has the same model number though
The seller description shows
CPU:Intel Core I5-1240P || 12 Cores 3.3GHz (12MB Cache, up to 4.4 GHz)
Solid deal. 450 nits
