Should I Connect Both Xbox One and Xbox Series X to a TV?

We recently purchased a Xbox Series X for Christmas. It has not been unpacked yet.

Our Xbox One in the Living Room is still working well and it's connected to the only TV in our house (our TV is 15 years old but still going strong). The Xbox One is also connected to a 2TB WD External Hard Drive.

Are there any benefits to connecting both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X to the TV or should I disconnect the Xbox One and keep it away?

Can I simply unplug the External Hard Drive from the Xbox One and plug it into the Xbox Series X? Am I correct in thinking that you can play non-optimised games directly from the External Hard Drive when it's connected to the Xbox Series X?

Currently the Xbox One and 2 PCs are sharing the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

No benefit. Connect the Xbox One to another TV or give it to a young relative. If you have gamepass or digital games purchased then you can play on both consoles at the same time. They can even share the same Gold account to play online if you make one console your "Home" console and sign into the other with the main account. It's like 2 for 1.

Yeah I was recently thinking I should offload my old 360 to a mate. They would get access to my entire 360 library. He's newest console is a 360 but doesn't have anywhere near as many games.

I don't know why this advice isn't given more commonly? You are the first person I have ever heard say this on here.

    No. Yes. Yes.

Disconnect the Xbox One, the Series X plays xbox one games better than the xbox one.
You can plug in the external hard drive to the SX and it will be recognized.

AustriaBargain is on the money with the home console trick to share gold and digital purchased games between two consoles.

    • Just make the XSX the home console. If the internet goes out then you won't be able to play the games on the console that isn't set as the home console. You can still play on the XSX with your main gamertag that has Gold/Gamepass, but if you want to use the Xbox One or both at the same time then the Xbox One will need to be using the main gamertag. That's all you need to know about the trick really.

Yes, no, maybe.. I don't know.. Can you repeat the question?

Only if you use Kinect features maybe?

We don’t have a Kinect (although I do wish it wasn’t discontinued!)

But we do have a Lego Dimensions unit and a Disney Infinity 3.0 unit connected to the Xbox One. (I can’t recall those games being played with over the past year though…)

There's no reason not to keep it connected. Just hook them both up and if the One hasn't been turned on in 6 months time, sell it off.

no real reason too if your games are on the external drive… the space on the series s/x internal drive does fill up quick though.. so you may prefer to have some enhanced games sitting on the xbox one to just play on there rather than moving stuff around all the time.
