Best Quality Art/Hobby Knives? Olfa, Fiskars or Something Else?

So which ones are the best in your opinion for precision work? Especially if you tried a couple.

Fiskars easy change seems a bit too thick, but Olfa may be a bit worse in terms of quality?.. I think their best one is AK-4?

Maybe there are some good deals currently?

Thanks

What's wrong with an X-Acto knife?

    • I don't know. Have not used them. Have you used anything else apart from X-Acto?

I have watched a couple of youtube reviews where they test tens of them and nowhere X-Acto was their leader.

      • I've never used an X-Acto branded one, but I've used other brands. X-Acto is just the most popular so people will call all of them that, like all tissues being a Kleenex or all vacuums being a Kirby.

      • So which one was best then? Genuinely interested. Actually have one of the Fiskars easy change fabric knives on it's way, and already have an Excel comfort grip here and numerous generic X-Acto style. Sell the Pro Edge at work which is just another clone of the generic X-Acto. I generally like and prefer Olfa over Fiskars but their hobby knife just looks like a plastic version of an X-Acto.

        • Most of the reviews that I watched or read preferred Fiskars Easy Change.

But most of the reviews just did not have Olfa. At the same time, on the forums where people compared Fiskars and Olfas most preferred Olfas. Olfa's blades were the best according to most people, but the blades are interchangeable anyway, so I am trying to figure out the best holder at this stage.

          • @Musiclover: IMO the ergo shaped grips are going to be personal preference, that's why I've bought a couple to try. I agree Olfa blades are superior to Fiskars. IMO Fiskars have reached that point where they've established their brand and are now in the phase where they're slowly lowering quality to increase profit and trading off the good will of their brand name. We'll continue to see this decline over several years until they're just another known brand selling junk.

NT Cutter are another decent brand and they have a hobby knife very similar to the Olfa one except it's aluminium. they also have an interesting one where the head is on a ball joint type thing so the angle can be adjusted. No experience with them though as they're not common here and I've never seen them cheap enough to impulse buy.
