    How is this a bargain?

  • This is double the price for much less performance compared tot he pavilion deal. I get the build quality argument - had used thinkpads before but struggles to see any other advantage here, I guess if you really liked the nipple? Its not popular but I know my old man is one of the few that loves it (not a joke to be made here he loves the nipple compared to touchpads for some reason).

I'm a nipple fan. Controlling the mouse from the middle of the keyboard is much more comfortable than having your wrist on the desk or holding your arm up the entire time. Once you get used to it, you see how uncomfortable scratching at a tiny square really is.

    • Is the i7-1165G7 in this laptop noticeably worse than the Pavilion's 12th gen i5-1240P for day to day use (non gaming)?

      • +1

light workloads, not noticable, heavy, multitasking workloads definitely yes.

      • I have a couple of nucs with the 1240p and use them for real time transcoding of 4K 422 streams and it manages to do a Prores master and scaled 264 mp4 proxy at about 97% real time, that thing flies.
Doesn't answer your question really but I do rate that proceasor 🙂

  • Note that this is previous generation.

  • Gen 9 is supposedly better than the current gen in battery performance.

      • Don't expect much technical understanding from the verge.

Gen 9 have P cores only, current gen have P cores and low power E cores. I don't see how battery life can be worse.

The P series also isn't for 'thin and light' notebooks. If you want to limit the power consumption further, you can use the windows power profile to limit the maximum clock speed. Instead of writing an article on how to do this, the verge would rather we have underpowered laptops.

I can talk from experience having owned both gen 9 and 10 x1's. Battery performance has dropped significantly with the gen 10. Very disappointing.

  • What's with no Ethernet?

    • no ethernet port :P

    • USB C to Ethernet. $5 adapter.

  • I have the i5 model with 5G modem and love it. After a BIOS update Windows was promptly replaced with Fedora.

  • i do hope these newer models fixed the fan issue. my gen 6 is causing quite a bit headache. it was so loud.

  • Had one for work. Appalling quality and have had two system boards replaced in 6 months after charging stops.

  • Great laptops aside from 16gb of ram, soldered and not upgradable so it will be a paperweight in 3 years.

Windows 11 is almost already using 16gb with a couple of apps. Needs to be 32gb if you want a laptop to last.

      That's not how it works.

Windows will use all the memory it can as disk cache. Whether you have 4GB or 8GB or 16GB, Windows 11 will use almost all of it even with just a couple of apps open - this is not an indicator of how much memory you need 👍
