Pixel 7 Overheating While Charging

Had the pixel 7 for a couple of days. Initially, extremely hot while converting/downloading data and updates though this is typical.
Continued use and phone is constantly noticably warm/hot under all use conditions. What are the odds that my device is faulty? It seems like many others are facing this issue. I find it unusual that this new device runs much hotter than my 4 yr old samsung phone. It is a shame considering the software/camera really is amazing.

    noticed this after the last os update. very hot to touch around sim tray.

    My P7PRO is the same, heats up when charging.

    uhhh why? The amount of tech in newer phones means that they draw more power, so of course it would warm the battery.

    42C is far from overheating, especially when you view video while charging. Why would you do anything while charging?

    It could be faulty, but I don't think 42C is overheating by any means.
