I visited Bali in early December and am having issues with being charged for unsuccessful withdrawals. Transactions were made from my Aus ING account using local ATMs that were all located in one spot. Would like to know what others experiences with getting credited in such situations are.
From memory went like this:
Transaction #1 (ATM1 - Bank A) - got a 'transactions can't be performed now' message.
Transaction #2 (ATM1 - Bank B) - machine offered a max withdrawal of ~AU$100 (was hoping for more in one hit), so cancelled.
…was in a rush and needed some $, so thought f.. it I'll grab AU$100 anyway.
Transaction #3 (ATM2 - Bank B) - message says not enough $ available in machine.
Transaction #4 (ATM3 - Bank B) - transaction successful.
I checked my ING account immediately after and it showed one transaction each from Bank A and B, with the one from Bank B remaining as 'pending' all day. Then overnight another transaction from Bank B shows up (for same amount), together with a credit for one of the Bank B transactions. The dates on the Bank B transactions also changed to be the day after the transaction. Then today (3 weeks later) another withdrawal for almost the same amount shows up for Bank B (with the original date).
So now I've got 2x unsuccessful transactions (~AU$100 each) that don't have a credit. Based on the dates and amounts I can't see these being hacks by others.
ING asked me to advise which was the successful transaction (based on receipt #'s only) but there's no way I can tell that. They've filed a query with Bank B on one of the transactions (although I asked them to do all) but they insist they can/will only query one at a time, and the foreign bank has 45 days each time to respond…
what about time on the reciepts? Bank B ATM should all be at least on the same time.
