Wow sounds like a really good value!

    • +1

I think Emma is doing half-price promotions all the time, but normally it still takes around 1k

  • +13

I bought a "Emma Original" two years ago, single for $370. The MSRP on these seems a little ridiculous…

    • Their standard single mattresses for this range are listed with normal retail pricing north of $2000 in the same ball park as Tempur.

A little out there compared to say Sleeping Duck’s single is around $1000.

  • +2

Suspect it's an error - it's 'discounted price' on their own website (has anyone ever paid their claimed MSRP?) is still over $1k. FWIW is dodgy of the mattress seller as they do not state the number of pocket springs per mattress - you want to know this.

I bought a Diamond Hybrid Queen size back in July for $1079. Emma are now claiming the RRP for the same mattress is $3329. What a joke, there is no way you would pay than much for one of these box mattresses.

      • +1

Thanks for that. Is there any company you recommend?

        • This. Keen to know what other mattress in a box options you would recommend @skirkh08.

Keen for the 100 night trial as well so we can return if it doesn't feel right during that period.

          • +3

@jollster101: The Emma Diamond Hybrid is a nice enough mattress. Both my wife and I don't wake up with sore backs anymore. I just wouldn't pay anymore than the $1079 for the Queen size that we paid.

          • +1

@jollster101: Sorry for my slow reply mate, I need to put my notifications on

I would go with the Sleeping Duck or Koala mattresses, if you're after mattress in a box. They have been doing it the longest and are the most widely recommended, with a slight edge to Sleeping Duck. SD Is slightly more expensive and doesnt discount (or very rarely) but you do get what you pay for.

*EDIT I wouldn't recommened Sleeping Duck's Pillows though. They are far too low. For that I would go somewhere else

        • can't go wrong with "zzz atelier" it was cheap when I got my king single and got the most firm version which I found more firm then Emma and other companies and very good

      • +1

I had some fun with the Wayback Machine just before and every cached page had the 55% off deal, but with different RRP. When I bought back in July the RRP was $2499 for the Queen.

        • Yeah this is what we have found when reviewing their pricing. They manipulate their RRP while retaining a fixed 50%-55% off which is definitely illegal. ACCC will catch up with them eventually but they are a bit of a toothless tiger

      • +2

Haha - you work in the mattress industry and are calling others out for shady sales tactics - that's a good one.

Ask me the whole industry is smoke and mirrors…

        • Interesting perspective. There is definitely some intense marketing activity that goes on behind the scenes, but only a couple of businesses use shady sales tactics. When I say shady I am referring to anything the violates consumer law, or blurs the lines of legality

      • Love to know too

King Single $629.50 seems a bit expensive for a mattress in a box.

Will Emma come with the mattress. Looking for some sexy time

    • Oh, you! (tee-hee-hee!)

  • Either
    1. all the venture capital money has run out and they can't sell mattress' at a loss any more (I bought my queen for $430 1.5 years ago),
    2. Inflation is hitting the mattress industry like crazy
    3. They are a pack of liars.

I will admit, I have been pretty happy with their all foam mattress. But they endless bs sales are crap, lies and not a good deal anymore. Soon they will be trying to pull a rugsamillion closing down sale.

Emma is a German company which belongs to the Otto Group (as far as I know). 1 definitely not. 2 could be. 3 is more likely.

  • That's the same pricing as their comfort mattress, likely a price error yes https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/1073998936…

  • I found this mattress way too hard and ended up getting a refund. Went back to sleeping duck - suits me better.

Paid around this figure with the various promotions and extra discount for shipping late.

    Cheers

I too found the mattress too hard initially, but my wife really liked it. After a few weeks of uncomfortable nights I got use to it. After 5 months of use I find it comfortable. But if it wasn't for the wife I probably would have got a refund too.

Good Design Award Winner for 2022

Ha…they only got the green tick which looks like it could just be the equivalent of a participation medal (and recognition for paying the entry fee). Doesn't stop them from using the black tick logo though which is only handed to the overall winner. What a joke.

  • After going through all comments, I just cancelled my order… any recommendations?

    • I've had good experiences with the Aldi mattresses. Inexpensive, pocket spring design which is very comfortable!

    • Sleeping duck Mach II has served me well. No regrets paying the price I did. Bought one of the new ecosa spring based models for the spare room (it was also the cheapest model). Nowhere near as nice as the sleeping duck but for half the price ($750 queen double Black Friday sale) it’s pretty good. I don’t think too many people can give you reviews beyond the one or two they buy. Most don’t bother with the 100 day trial because the quality is almost always good enough.

Sleeping duck customer service is good. Changed my foam insert to firm a month after trying medium. Easy as. No hoops to jump through just ask.

Can anyone comment on the quality of the products?
Reading these comments about dodgy sales tactics - pricing aside I'm wondering if the product itself is any good?
Will be looking to purchase a King size mattress soon and had found Emma Sleep to be one of the cheaper Mattress-In-A-Box companies

    • The Emma Comfort rates absolute best in Choice review, not just box mattresses.
I've not tried them, have a Macoda myself and really like it. https://macoda.com.au/products/macoda-mattress

    • I have a Sleep Republic mattress - https://sleeprepublic.com.au/

I really like it and would recommend.

They have a 100 night sleep trial too. If you don't like it, they will refund and collect the mattress. The bonus is that they will then give the mattress to charity, which is nice.

  • +2

I'd suggest mattress reviews are useless unless they're posted 12 months after purchase, ideally 3 years+ B

I've had everything from bed shed thousands of dollar mattresses, to cheaper Harvey Norman options with no toppers and find they all sag and fail to last. So I've given up, just spend a few hundred on Aldi box mattresses and accept I'll need a new one every few years!

    • +1

The problem is most of them use cheap low quality foam, especially the super “tall” matress 30cm +.

Many layers of shitty foams especially from overseas indicate a low quality mattress.

Look for pocket springs , 1-2 layers of good quality dense, high resilience foam, Dunlop or Joyce foams is best. Usually around 800-1k will get you something which will last 7 + years.

Foam is the most important component in terms of premature sagging and can be exposed in Choice mattress reviews. Obviously also depends on body weight how often you rotate the mattress as well.

  • I tried sleep republic (quite sturdy but returned because it felt hot). Return process was not great (had to leave it outside by 6 am as the initial arrangement was cancelled due to driver refusing to park at a certain location).

I then tried this from emma. It was very firm but again hot. Return process was little slow but good (2 people came and collected it).

I then went to myer to try mattresses in store. Settled for Sealy Posturepedic Elevate when it was on sale (as they often are) with 20% cashback at cashrewards.

Very subjective field. Would have tried sleeping duck next if I didn't buy Sealy.

  • $629.50 Delivered (Save $2149.50)
can someone explain this, I remember getting one of these before, for like $800 which was the normal price, how has it gone up to rrp: $2779

      some shady sales tactics

  • Just received an email cancelling my order. Very frustrating as ordered a king bed frame yesterday from another company on the assumption the mattress would be delivered. Called Woolworths but they have no interest.

    • Same here. "Out of stock"….
