Chiko Rolls - Which Is The Best Bit?

How do you rate the outer versus the inner?
Could you eat the filling by the spoonful?
I'm pretty sure I could eat a plate of the skins
Or do they need each other?

Skin all the way, they should fill the skin with more skin

Mostly skin, but it needs 'some' filling

Skin and filling are just as good as each other, the whole is better than the sum of its parts

The filling is great, I could eat it with skin chips just like salsa and corn chips

It's all about the filling, I could eat it with a spoon

    haven't eaten a chiko roll in years…

but i love the soft part of the pastry of a meat pie when you peel away the crispy pastry on the top.

      ❤️

    • Best eaten with either sweet chilli or soy sauce

best enjoyed as it is presented imo, the whole point is the interplay of texture haha

I thought the whole point was to stop traddies taking a dump at work.

the double fisted dare iced coffees picked up at the shell express on the way to site begs to differ

  • ya'll need to dip chiko rolls in vinegar

    • I'll need to try this…

  • aaah.. so many memories from primary and high school days!!

the ends, same as a spring roll

    • Absolutely

Yep. No option in the poll unfortunately which discredits the poll outcomes.

  • You left 'the after taste' out of the poll options.

  • I like to spread a bit of vegemite on the tip. Tastes good.

But seriously all of the chiko roll is good.

    • +2

      just the tip?

      • It's a lot of Vegemite for a big tip

    • clearly

  • i like to nibble on the skin

OMG! Where is the poll option for the end pieces. That crispy, crunchy treat at each end? Chiko rolls should be filled with just the end pieces.

    • The end pieces with just a tiny dab of filling in each. Best of both worlds I reckon.

OP, can you confirm this post follows the recent Woolies deal on Chikko rolls?

    • +1

      did buy two boxes
      .

      • interestingly - how did that go ???
As I just replied below (unaware of this post at time) …

Can never seem to get "store bought" ones to taste 100% like the ones from the the servo/food-van.
Think it partly comes down to the crispyness on the very ends of chiko roll … which would be hard to do at home.

Try a air fryer. 15 minutes from frozen, comes out just like a shop one. And dimmies the same.

  • The joy of not eating one.

  • +2

Marathon spring rolls > Chiko rolls.

    Asia powahhh!

  • +3

the old school advertising in fish and chip shops

  • if said chiko roll is from either a servo or food van …
the ends are usually slightly crispy/burnt (from being in warmer too long) … while the inside is so soft and yummy.

together these 2 work in unison … yin/yang concept.
but I wouldn't have it any other way - just wouldn't be the same.

have even tried frozen "store-bought" ones + cooking myself … but never tastes the same - poor substitute to servo/food-van. concept.

    Suggested Crunchy ends

Crunchy ends, where the filling meets the oil. Best bit in my opinion.

  • Does anyone know where to get the dim sims (veggie). The chicko and spring rolls at the supermarkets, but the dim sims are the ducks nuts.

    • South Melbourne Market dim sims are widely available in Victoria

  • I never touch them after I found a mouse bit in one when I was a kid. Yuck.

  • Does anyone even know what a Chiko rolls 'really' made of?

hi Nugs, never had one, but might get a couple as a treat for christmas to try.

    thanks.
