      • Well these guys charge $18 postage so its $287 total. And if you buy from TopBuy its $239 and you can pick up a 500gb HDD for under $50 or use your own if you have a spare one.

        • $239+49 which is the best price from static Ice (all the ones cheaper are out of stock, an in fact I couldn't find one under $55 which was in stock, and I gave up trying after that) plus the shipping for the $49 drive, makes your comparison higher in total cost, plus someone has to assemble the two. maybe fun for a young techno geek, but remember not all members here are into self assembly.

BTW the $49 drive co's price for shipping was $18 if in stock.

Please just dont look at Static Ice, without checking if the prices are current and available. Its not for the mods to have to do this for you.

By your own admission you have nothing cheaper

  • Topbuy deal doesn't mention a hard drive included….

So 10% off with an included AV quality drive isn't bad….

So 10% off with an included AV quality drive isn't bad….

it's only 10% off, they had the same package last month for the fictitious $499 price… You are only saving $30

      • Not biting…your logic is strange to say the least.

  • I have this model and while i still think its better than the Tivo it has some serious flaws.
Like when recording another channel it forces the showing channel to flick over to the recording channel.
Also I have no idea why but ours now shuts the box off after recording anything, really annoying.

To top that off, that is the old model… the newer current model runs Android (albeit 2.2) and is cheaper than that one:
    http://www.creativepeter.com/dvico-tvix-xroid-a1.html (under $200)
I will buy the A1 in the next few months and turf the Tivo.

    • was also looking the A1 but it gets bad reviews on amazon.
      http://www.amazon.com/DVICO-Minevox-Android-Network-Player/p…

      • Android media players don't support DVBT digital TV recording. So you are paying only for an android based media player with internet browser, google apps etc. Until these sort of products include dual processing they are over priced media players with sluggish browser .. and certainly not digital TV recorders with EPG and program scheduling.

        No comparison.

      • Eeek! Be VERY careful with the A1!! I patiently waited over 9 months for them to eventually release it as they were trying to iron out the bugs and release it with a decent version of OS and was one of the first to have one here in Oz… but it was SO dismal I turned it around and flogged it off on eBay only a few days later.
They may have better firmware now but wow the one I had was a complete car crash so please be careful and make sure you see/use one before handing over your hard earned cash.
I'm an avid DViCO fan and own three 6640n units and love them to bits however I do know even they have their flaws but unfortunately the A1 has definitely left a sour taste in my mouth :(

    • Better not turf your Tivo since TViX A1 doesn't have TV tuners. It's pure media player - not PVR.

I personally own older TViX 6500 and bought 6640n for my parents. They are good devices and I love DVICO products, but they are overpriced and don't have great feature advantage they used to have. These days I use Atom based Media PC running Win7 MCE for PVR - beats TViX any day (eg. much better scheduling that keeps up with EPG changes; series recording that always find shows even on different days or channels; etc…).
I still use TViX as primary Media Player as it never fails with any file formats or HD content. Haven't used TViX as PVR for over a year. I also own WDTV Live the older model that I got for $50 (same model as this: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/74254) - it works great and while short on few TViX features, it would be my pick for cheap Media Player.

Anyhow, I think this is a good deal, but you guys make sure you are aware of that fact that DVICO doesn't exist anymore, and the new company that now owns TViX hasn't been releasing new firmware for quite a while now:

Also, my personal pick would be TViX S1 Duo ~$300 with no HDD (smaller box with external Power Supply - no internal fan):
      http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=tvix+s1+duo…

      • Re S1 Duo and comparison to M-6640n they are identical in GUI interface and hardware. In fact the M-6640n has the following advantages over and above S1 duo;

        • Inbuilt Card reader
        • Wifi-N Built into PVR
        • I have two M6640n's and the last one I bought has the wifi as a USB aerial type addon. The first version had wireless built inside. Is the "Inbuilt WiFi" actually a usb device on this one?
I'm not knocking either unit, I would get another one without hesitation if one died!

        • Hi, There was a M-6640 and 6640n the N denotes wireless inbuilt in the unit
