eBay $1 Variable Fee Promotion November

Hi, as a lot of you know, this promotion was pulled early on 17th November.

According to the email received, as long as the item was listed prior to 17th November, the item is eligible for the $1 variable fee when it sells after the 17th (at least that was my interpretation of it).

One of my items recently sold and I was charged the full variable fee. The ebay chat agent persistently told me that the item needed to be sold prior to the 17th as well to be eligible for the discount.

I know a lot of ozbargainers listed a lot of items just before the cut off time to be eligible for the promotion and most items would have been sold after the 17th so you'd be in the same boat.

Anyone have a similar experience to me? I think it's poor that eBay can change the terms like that even when we have the email. I have some items listed during the promotional period that I am considering ending if they are no longer eligible.

  • Is there also something in the terms that says eBay has the right to change the terms at any time?

    • Surely not when you've already listed an item, you agree to the fee at the listing start time.

      • I mean, I didn’t say it would be fair…

  • My items listed before but sold after the promo was ended had the $1.10 fee

    • Ye I had some that ended after the 17th that had the $1 fee but an item that sold yesterday had the full fee. The items with the $1 fee sold in November. Maybe eBay has changed the terms again so that they needed to be sold by the end of November?

  • +1

If at first you don't suceed try another agent.

    • Definitely try another agent and remember that they really are human too 😊 they respond well to being treated with common courtesy. Say hello with their name and say goodbye, to show you have finished dealing with them, that kind of thing. They don’t design the policy that they are asked to interpret or implement after all. I asked about something that sold on the cut off date for a similar reduced variable fee offer. The agent was all set to credit me a fee refund until it became apparent that I hadn’t been overcharged. That’s my experience with them anyway, hope it helps.

  • The listing may have been relisted automatically after the 30 days and hence the promo would not have been applied. If you go into your sold listing it shows the original listing date so you can check if it's over the 30 days.

On another note eBay help chat is pretty much useless for the most part. They just make things up as they go along.
