Henry Cavill Dropped as Superman

Terrible news today as DCU has just dropped Cavill as Superman. Shame on Warner-Discovery for teasing him in Black Adam then making such an U-turn.

Now that he's also gone from Witcher, I don't know who I can come home to relax with after a long hard day. Maybe I will tune into his youtube channel building gaming PCs and Warhammer models.

Better yet, maybe Cavill can do a new Warhammer series for HBO and star as Emperor of mankind?

Hear he put a few stunt ideas to the producers, but they just didn’t fly

    • When he first arrived Superman couldn't fly. He could only "jump tall buildings in a single bound". He was given the power to fly for much the same reason the transporter was invented for StarTrek. It was invented to save the Enterprise having to land. Him being able to fly was invented because it was easier to animate than jump after jump over tall buildings.

According to the news, I thought the next superman was Donald Trump?

  • I'm just waiting for the musical version of Rambo..First Blood
    " he shoots…he kills…he hurts" lmao

I saw black adam yesterday and was excited about the post credit scene.

But I read he was no longer Superman a few days to ago and I'm like…. Oh boy……

DC is a mess anyways, marvel is slowly losing its appeal imo.

    • Slowly? lmao Rapidly

True, it's funny cause if you look at Ironman CGI in 2009 (around then) vs CGI now, current CGI is so bad! I mean, it's actually terrible! Disney really loves pumping out content…. quantity over quality

there’s no such thing as superhero,

Pretty sure I have a Trump nft that disagrees with you…..

    Tromeo and Juliet?

I reckon Gunn will do a superb young superman lol

John Cena as….. the man of steel!

  • Maybe DC did it so it wouldn't overshadow the J.J. Abrams & Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Superman movie which at the moment still looks like it's going to happen.

    • I too would like to see superman from the hood.

      • Would be a great title. Even better if they managed to get Cuba and Ice Cube!

He is doing Warhammer 40k with Amazon now. All is not lost.

    • I'm hopeful but Amazon hasn't been great at respecting the source material, just look at wheel of time and rings of power.

      • +2

He's also an exec. producer so there's hope to stay true to the source material.

  • Cry me a river. He can join the Marvel universe as the "Void" now.

DCU cant get any worse and here i read this.

i too want to see him build PC's and just be a real person.

Cavill was a decent Superman, definitely looked the part, but those movies were not great. I'm guessing they're going to try and make a clean break from them, which unfortunately would require a baby + bathwater reset.

Maybe in a few years they could bring Cavill and Affleck back to do a Kingdom Come movie, they'd be great for that. Definitely doesn't fit the MCU style ongoing franchise that DC seem desperate to try and replicate.

    • Cavil is 39 and Affleck is 50. Do we want old age super heroes? Their time is done.

      • Kingdom Come is set after Superman has retired and Batman is just barely holding his aging body together. Old age is core to the story, but I doubt it will ever be adapted.

    • WB must have assumed nerds must like seeing explosions because Man of Steel to me was basically a bunch of destruction porn.

I don't get the obsession with Cavill - while definitely an attractive and charismatic guy, his acting is quite average, and he is not even close to Chris Reeve as Superman.

The DCEU is in desperate need of proper direction and a complete restart, hopefully they can pull it off.

Chris Reeve was a football player and an unknown as an actor before Superman. He took some time to get better. I think you see his acting through nostalgia goggles. I don't blame you. For me he was Superman. The special effects might be terribly dated now but left the old black and white TV series for dead, and he was the epitome of a good guy. I think Cavil would have done fine with a better script.

      • Good points! I think people see Cavill with similar "goggles" - thinking he's acting well because he's pretty. He's just not that good, and he's been making movies for a long time so has had plenty of time to get better.

        • For me he's a mixed bag. I thought he really suited Superman, but I didn't like the films he was in. I think he's great in the Witcher, but think he was bad in Mission Impossible (to the point where I don't think he should be Bond as many seem to want).

I like Henry Cavil for his acting ability and his passion, but is no one going to talk about the irony of leaving a franchise for not being true to the source material, while playing a clothes thieving, neck snapping, emo Superman that one the one hand lets his foster father die to honour his wish that he protect his secret identity but on the other hand jeaopardizes that secret identity in a smug, petty fit by putting a semi-trailer up a tree? I don't believe in karma but if I did this would be a classic case, no?

Zach Snyder is a horrible script writer. The guy can direct action, but keep him away from a script!

  • +1

Blessing in disguise for his career. DC has turned to shit anyway, he could be working on better projects with better people.

  • It's okay, Cavill can be replaced by that new Jack Reacher guy, looked more Sups than Henry…

    • Alan Ritchson. He's already Hawk.

  • He is a symbol of hope.

    An ideal to strive towards.

    A man of tomorrow.

    • The Emperor of Man

    • “It’s not an S… it stands for hope.”

“Bro that’s a f******* S, this is Earth so you play by our rules b****!”

  • He actually got fired/replaced from witcher because of clashes with the showrunner (female). And now the left woke are attacking him on reddit lol. He didnt want it to deviate too much from source material as he is familiar with it. I guess producers wanted to go a different direction.

This news probably made its way to james gunn and may have played a part in this axing in dceu.

    • James Gunn is just jelly

    • This rumour makes no sense, considering the sensibilities displayed in the Gunn produced Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad?

        • Uh, that's unconfirmed rumour on Reddit that had no airtime on any of the trades such as variety or the Hollywood reporter, and not confirmed or discussed by any of the Hollywood YouTube celebrities like BeyondtheTrailer or EmergencyAwesome.

Having said that, BeyondtheTrailer says that he has heard from multiple sources that Henry Cavill has a reputation of being very difficult to work with, that he's an internet star moreso than a movie star because of his poor box office numbers in man from uncle, that it was shocking to her that Cavill hadn't been picked up for anything after his turn as a bad guy in mission impossible, his prompt departure from the Netflix show shocked everyone at Netflix, pissed off the cast and crew and that he has no loyalty and burns his bridges with everyone.

I don't know what the truth is, but Hollywood and fame can make people do weird things.
