Great movie and the 4K is outstanding.

Why would anyone have bad feelings towards this film?

    • +9

Because not everyone likes or enjoys the same films?

    • +7

because of das untermensch propaganda against das vaterland!!1!

Seemed overrated imo. Wasn't as exciting or interesting as the hype made it out to be.

      • I think the big hype was around the entire film appeared to be made using only one or two shots (no scene cuts).
Personally wasn’t a huge fan of the style but ymmv. Impressive feat nonetheless.

It was decent for me, a lot of the enjoyment was the quality of the video and audio, I guess if you using TV speakers and sad TV then it would not be as enjoyable an experience.

    • Because it depects parts of history that were horrific?

  • Is this movie more entertaining than 2012? (the end of the world movie)

    • +2

This is an awesome movie, made even better when you understand how they made it in very long sequences.

1917 is a masterpiece, but entertainment is subjective, and I know most people who don't care about war + history would probably be more entertained watching 2012.

    • Depends on your definition of entertaining, but they're two completely different films. It can be a slow burner in the way that heavy handed war films tend to be, but it can also be quite visceral in the way it portrays war. Great score, great cinematography from Roger Deakins, but personally a mid-level Mendes for me (Skyfall is still on another level personally). Worth it for the 4k experience I think, at this price.

As a fictitious film, 2012 was sensory overload with CGI and a noisy soundtrack with a budget to match at $200M whereas the historical 1917 gave me a sense of scale as to how close the front line and enemy were to each other in relation to the nearby battleground operations (medics, mess, supplies, command etc). Budget $100M

  • Temporary OOS

  • 2 left on eBay, if you prefer.

  • Why wouldn’t you just stream it?

    • +5

Probably because streaming services don't provide the best quality as the physical media does.

      • -5

Ah well, I rather watch it for free.

        • +3

How's it free unless you are pirating? Or you talking about watching it on Netflix, then it isn't free as you are paying a subscription

        • +3

          “Free”.

    • +6

I don't think this question needs to be asked anymore at this point. Most people buying 4k Blu Rays now are the ones that care about maximising video/audio quality. People that don't are already streaming.

      • +1

Fair enough I guess everyone has a different preference.

Just went to buy it, only to have Amazon tell me I'd already bought it. Close one!

    • +1

That is the beauty of Amazon.

    • +1

I did that with Saving Private Ryan. Though I bought 1 copy from JB and the other from Amazon. Gave my brother the 2nd one. I now have a record of every movie I have bought on my phone, just to be safe. Oh and yes, it is an excellent 4k movie. Very good for those with Dolby Atmos too, from what I hear..

      • Very good for those with Dolby Atmos too, from what I hear..

I see what you did there.

    • That's why I have a Google sheets doc with my collection itemised, got a few too many duplicates from the Blu-ray days.

    • I have nearly done the same.I now use the My Movies by Bluray.com app on my phone. I have everything listed there inc dvd's. One good feature is you can type in the name or scan the bar code on a movie and you can see if you already have it.
