Should give AI superpower to even your older eufy cams with "BionicMind" self-learning AI and expandable storage upto 16TB (yes, with a T) among other features.
Not sure if it works as advertised but even if reduces false alerts by 50% I'm happy.

Is that a subscription service?
Nope, local storage. Pay a reasonable price once and that's it thats Eufy's USP.
"local storage"
Eufy has been uploading your images along with facial recognition to cloud despite of marketing as 'local storage'.
Edit: watch this video if you don't know about this.
@asa79: URLs can be brute forced but regardless of any argument or future patches… storing your images (with facial ID) to cloud is NOT LOCAL. Eufy's whole selling point, as marketed, was everything stays local and private. This is a prime example of False Advertising.
@OldSchoolHarry: It is tricky though as the two options are essentially either upload that thumbnail of the alert notification to the cloud or set up port forwarding on your router and risk potentially letting ppl into your network. Neither are great options really. I can certainly see a case for preferring a thumbnail temporarily being in the cloud over having a backdoor through an insecure device into your network in terms of what the potential worst outcome is. I highly doubt they would have invested much in hardening the device from attack and pushing security patches to it frequently to reduce the chance of your network being owned via it.
I think had they been upfront that these are the options and this one is clearly less of a security risk in their view then probably nobody would be angry with them at the moment. They were deceptive in leaving this out. Even if some people would have assumed this is how it works.
I have one and i'm not about to throw it out and pay a subscription to another company for the rest of my life to creepily keep 100% of the footage in their cloud, as that doesn't seem any better really. It's a shame because it's a decent product but this is a downer for it.
Maybe there's another approach that can be taken? I vaguely recall Linus said something about it working slightly differently in the newer homebase or something? I listened to the follow up one to that episode while in bed so I can't recall now.
@thugmander91: YES there is proof: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/11/eufys-no-clouds-came…
@thugmander91: You should try therapy.
@thugmander91: This is added in a recent update.
Add the statement that cloud service will be involved when users choose to push thumbnail messages
@thugmander91: it's a free country. You're free to go live somewhere else.
@itstuan: I'm free to do whatever i want without being spied on.
@thugmander91: Damn 50 cent'ers are committed.
Shouldn't you be out denying the genocide the CCP is committing or pretending Tiananmen Square never happened?
I mean the AI part
anyone familiar with this enough to know if it's also doing this: https://www.techhive.com/article/1418923/ankers-eufy-securit… ?
This needs to be at the top. Impossible to recommend this brand when they don't take security seriously. Just like the time when people logged in and saw cameras for other user's and Eufy's solution was to log everyone out and make them log in again to fix it.
Where is the proof though?
I need more than just a few sentences. Even i can make it up
As far as I know, this security issue includes all Eufy systems that push notifications to user's phones (ie all of them) and will continue to be a problem until Eufy decides to fix it.
At very least, they need to fix their advertising, which is currently false, and vastly improve the security of the cloud-hosted images.
Until they do, all Eufy products should be avoided.
what consequence are you worried about?
Eufy = Nope
What brand = yep?
Home brand
EVE Cam with true HomeKit
how do the push notification thumbnails work in that setup?
@rhino015: Not sure. What im sure in, its done very secure, its Apple after all.
expandable storage, is that a promise like before?
Seems to work for real this time! :D
Hope the eufy base alarm is louder now. Alarm siren was barely audible outside when inside the bedroom
Is it clever enough to not wipe recordings if someone holds the sync button down on the cams? Lol
Unfortunately not, even with HomeBase 3.
what in the fk is that thing?
I know what this is. This is an espresso machine. No, no, no, it's a snow cone maker. That's what it is… Is it a water heater?
You deserve a + vote for your fine taste in arnie quotes
Does the face recognition work just with the home base pr will i need to get the new cameras as well?
It’s basically 10% off the rrp, right? I would rather buy a 2 camera set which also gets this 10% off
Wow expensive…does it cook me breakfast?
Nopity nope nope.
https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/zanl28/ultra_popula…
Showing the same faceID's for the same face across different networks indicates all uploads are being shared across the Eufy dbase.
Oh heck, thats baaaaad! :(
Wish I could return all of their products for a refund though, not just this.
Wondering whats the alternative though, are subscription services by other (Ring etc) secure?
Update: despite the reviews praising it, the "BionicMind AI" turned out to be a dud! Doesn't work at all even if the face is clearly visible. Returned for a refund.
That’s hugely disappointing, was ready to pull trigger on the $1999 set as getting way too many false alerts with my current system
If you’re buying a set that’s probably fine but I was upgrading my homebase only for the AI face recognition which is totally not worth it
I’d want a camera included for that price.
