Hi, anyone know where I could get pool salt for a decent price in Brisbane? (delivered or pickup) There is currently a shortage and all the usual places like Bunnings, BigW etc are out of stock. My local pool place is asking $20 per 20kg bag. Thanks

Yes agree with Mr Wongingtons - $20 a bag is now ok. When I cant get hold of salt I just buy the chlorine in powder form to supplement the salt chlorinator or turn the chlorinator off (but leave the pump running on timer) if salt is too low for the operation of the chlorinator.
My local pool shop also charges $20 / 20kg bag.
Yep, keep checking Bunnings website daily, they’ll get a delivery soon enough and then you’ll have a day to get it before it goes out of stock. Make sure you keep sweeping the salt in the pool until it completely dissolves otherwise it will stain your pool.
I’d say $20 for a 20kg bag is expensive, but supply and demand. Hopefully things will improve.
Bunnings has a shipment of their premium salts once every few days..
Was able to 15 bags last week.
After going to their store every day for for almost a week.
Website is inaccurate. By the time it updates and you get there it's no longer available.
Just gotta keep trying.
Last time there was a shortage, the Bunnings about 30 min away had stock and for some reason let me order for delivery. Iirc it was $45ish for 15 bags shipped over on a skid. Worth it for the time saved alone in going down there and loading/unloading.
That can't be very profitable for them. 😂
Why wouldn’t it be profitable? It costs me about $40 to ship a pallet within metro assuming the other end has a forklift to unload and I only send maybe a few pallets a month. I’d assume Bunnings has a way bigger account and access to awesome freight deals,
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Because it costs them money for the salt and money to deliver it to their warehouse to begin with.
@donga100: I should have clarified $40 was just freight, per bag it was like $8 a bag or something
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Ah, that makes more sense now. I thought you got them for $3 a bag, delivered.
@donga100: Haha I wish
"15 bags last week"
"15 bags shipped"
How long does that last?
.my pool only needed about 8 the other 7 was for a friends pool,
but that lasts the whole swimming season. and i only do it once a year.
each bag of premium salt was $12my pool is about 50K liters
Not too bad then, even at $20
We use about 4 bags of Magna per year, approaching $50/bag
.
How long does that last?
yeah usually when i top mine up its about 7-8 bags
(i am hella lazy with my pool upkeep and wish i could just fill the bloody thing in)
Well you’ve already exhausted the usual cheap places for low tier salt… best bet is going to be keep refreshing Bunnings website during the day or ask them when they expect their next shipment.
Ps $20 for decent salt is not terrible. My local pool shop usually tries to sell it for 39.95 a bag during last shortage.
