Bunnings Ozito Brushless Drill/Driver - Chuck Keeps Loosening

Weird question - but I bought an Ozito brushless drill driver a few months ago (this one: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-brushless-13mm-dri… )

Been using it for a few DIY things around the house, but I'm finding that the chuck keeps loosening during use which causes the bits to fall out. I've tried all the different torque and speed settings, but it just keeps doing it.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong (I'm hardly Bob the Builder so I'm not that savvy when it comes to DIY tools) or if it's a fault with the drill. Has anyone had the same issue?

Thanks!

You're not drilling in reverse gear are you?

  • Are you hand-tightening the chuck after torque tightening it?

    • Yep, but it gets to a certain hand-tightness and then just keeps slipping.

if you are tightening it properly (as per the manual) you should get a few loud clicks when its tight enough. Assuming the bits are properly centred, if they are then falling you may have a faulty drill

you can always take it back to bunnings and ask them to check; if you are just doing it wrong then they can let you know. If you are doing it right and its a fault, they will swap it over

    • I never hear any clicks, the chuck feels like it's just slipping when it gets to a certain tightness.

Maybe I'll have to take it back and get them to check it out.

Sounds like it's broken. Should click as you tighten it.

        • Definitely sounds like it, there's no clicks, the chuck just keeps turning when it gets to a certain tightness.

    • @dtc; excellent advice, disappointing to see. 5/7

  • Bosch were the worst.
    So they invented SDS.
There are all sorts of competing systems out to mitigate this issue.

Just take it back mate they have a 5 year warranty and they’ll swap it over..

  • I have the same issue with my brushless battery Makita hammer drill on some bits.

Tighten it fully, then back off with one click. This is supposed to lock it.

Won't work with all chucks but should with yours given you have the brushless drill with metal chuck.
I have the brushed version with metal chuck.

This is YouTube clickbait tier bullshit. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

        Really?

I tried it on my chuck and it seemed to do the job.

  • What did Bunnings say when you asked them

They said post on ozbargain for support

    Sound broken.

Get someone else to take a look and confirm, or just take it back to Bunnings.

If only there was some sort of hardware store you could take it too and get it looked at ?

  • Its the cheapest thing on the market…what do you expect lol

    • Basic functionality. Just because it was the cheapest doesn't mean it shouldn't work.

I have this exact model and you need to hand tighten it after. There should be a few clicks. Have a look at a manual online to confirm. I also looked at a couple of youtube videos which really helped me.

  • I posted here to ask for advice - I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong as I'm not particularly familiar with power drills. Now that it seems the drill is faulty, I will indeed take it back to Bunnings. Thanks for those who replied with actual assistance :-)

  • I’ve noticed that more modern drills seem to loosen chucks unless they are stupid tight. Several different brands. Don’t know why, but the older ones I’ve used seem to be better at remaining tight.

Have you tried this one simple dik dok trick? The one where you tighten it, then turn it back a bit? (It doesn’t work either)

  • I have this drill, and it works really well. If I run it in reverse, the chuck can sometimes loosen as it spins (e.g. using it as a polisher).

Tighten it normally then turn it back the opposite way slightly until it clicks once and it will lock.

Same for all cordless drills. There is nothing wrong with yours

  • Im having the exact same problem with mine. Im finding that its not actually the chuck that is disconnecting. Instead it is the hex chuck which keeps falling out of the main drill itself. The chuck is still connected to the hex chuck which i then have to slide back into the drill. I'm about to take it back to bunnings to see what they say. @Flying Ace

    • They were happy to take mine back - however because I got the kit (2 batteries + drill for $75) on a super special they didn't have a like-for-like replacement, so I had to upgrade to a Ryobi which is miles better anyway.
