Which seats would be decent? Any to avoid?
Haven't been to this but my general rule is to check what the most expensive seats are in the future (March/April) and try and get those now. Not always the best necessarily, but a good indicator.

Performances before December 31st. I just completed a purchase a few minutes ago. Click through the ozbargain link, and when selecting tickets, if you take to long the price reverts back to full price for some reason.

Doubt it'll happen. They had to redo the theatre and everything so it's got special Hogwarts carpeting and dragon lanterns. I just flew to Melbourne to see it (for the two-parter and again for the one-parter)
How was the condensed version vs the original?

Watch out. last time they offered me discount tickets I didn't realize it was grand final day. Trying to fill seats, when I probably could have got Friday forty, had I just waited.

Just back from tonights performance, sat in Row G in the stalls. Bear in mind this is a 3 hour 30 minute show (how long was it when it was a two parter in total?) Really enjoyed it, FX were incredible. Thanks again OP!
