Hi OzBargainers,
Confirmed with Apple Support that there were Black Friday system issues for mix payments especially gift cards. Please check your Apple receipts and gift cards (like a true OzBargainer ❤️).
Purchased a new Mac Book Pro (MBP) 16" and used 8 Apple Gift cards (8 X $100). The Black Friday promotion was receive $400 Apple gift card.
Basically, my Apple Online order (using AppleID), Tax Invoice and credit card statements were not adding up. Searched through forums to validate that I wasn't an idiot.
I called Apple support three times to check the maths… it just didn't add up and no one could explain it.
The problem:
Receipt 1. Apple Online (using AppleID) recorded MBP was $4649 laptop cost and $400 promo saving. Remaining cost recorded $4249.
Receipt 2. Tax Invoice recorded two charges $4249 laptop cost and $400 gift card cost. There was no record of gift cards processed.
Receipt 3. Credit card statement recorded two charges $3849 laptop cost and $400 gift card.
The correct credit card charges should be $3449 laptop cost (See Receipt 1 - remaining cost minus total gift cards used - $4249 minus $800) and $400 gift card cost.
Basically, the calculations ripped me off $400. My credit card was charged $3849 laptop cost $400 gift card (See Receipt 2).
At first, the Apple Support staff was adamant that the charges were correct. I kept asking questions. Apple confirmed there were issues with processing system for mixed payment but it should be all resolved now.
Thankfully, the Apple Support staff re-checked the balance of all 8 gift cards. To our surprise, there were 4 gift cards (4 X $100) refunded with their total balance. With no Apple communication since the purchase, Apple instead charged my credit card an extra $400 cash ($3849 laptop cost) on the spot instead of re-attempting to process the 4 gift cards.
Unethical behaviour here. No communications. No receipts with accurate records. Receipt 1 records that all 8 gift cards were used. Charges me in dollars and leaves me with 4 apple gift cards which luckily I didn't toss out.
Disappointed that not a single Apple receipt properly recorded the transactions and calculations. It was difficult to explain to Apple support who adamant the charges are correct. Also, shit service as their end disconnected on my first two calls. Finally, I got answers on my third call after intense questioning.
I am getting a call from the Apple Supervisor within 24-48 hours as they don't work on weekends. I will be demanding refund to my credit card - take your gift cards back and give me my money.
Help this helps any OzBargainers who were 2nd guessing their Apple receipts.
In future, you can use more than 8 gift cards, just load them onto your Apple Account, more savings.
