Anyone Recommend a Dyson Fan?

Hey
After a fan for my daughters bedroom and was wondering if anyone recommends a Dyson one?

I see two models that are both $499

I don’t know if there is any difference apart from one being about to heat and the other one being taller

Thanks

  • Apart from the ability to heat the air, the big difference is in size / height.

Dyson Pure Hot +Cool is 62cm. 15.4 cm wide.

Dyson Pure Cool is a little over 100cm. 19cm wide

One sits on your desk, the other one sits on the floor. Both have carbon air filters.

    • Seeing I won’t be using the heat as we live in Qld. The taller one would be better I’m guessing to cool my daughters room then

If the issue is hot nights (making for uncomfortable sleep) you might want to consider opening the windows and pointing a fan at it, so that hot air can escape from your home and cool night air can be drawn in.

You can use thermometers to see if the outside air is cooler than inside air — if it is, open up all the windows to ventilate your home and bleed the excess thermal energy stored inside.

During the daytime keep the windows closed and the blinds drawn to try and keep the inside air cooler than the outside.

I recently scored the predessor to the HP00WS from an OP shop for $10.

    Remote from aliexpress for $4.35.

My daughter claimed it for her room and loves it for the purifying of the air thanks to the HEPA filter.

Dyson are terrible as a fan for cooling.
They are good as air purifier and heating to some extent.

Better to get a DC pedestal fan and save the money for other things.

The times when I have been visiting where people have them I have found that they just move the air like a normal fan when "cooling" and they are quite like a DC fan.

I would check out the Aldi DC fan or if you want one with more options check out the Kambrook 40cm DC Motor Pedestal Fan.

  • Ok thanks

I’m guessing the only real advantage then is that the Dyson one purifies the air too

For that price, get a portable air conditioner instead, either first or second hand. It’ll do a better job cooling, and can be put on fan-only mode anyway if you want to save electricity.

As other commenters have pointed out, Dyson fans are worse than cheap K-Mart pedestal fans.

I got two of the cheapest short round ones without any filter. Paid around $200 from Dyson eBay store when they had the 15% to 20% codes running.

I use them at low speed with timer to help sleep on hot days.

First one I got around 3+ years ago, but eventually even with regular vacuuming/wiping/cleaning it collected quite a bit of dust and got a little bit noisier than it was when new.
Back then though my bed was on the ground so the fan was on the ground probably making it to suck up more dust because it sucks in air from the base.

Recently got another one to replace it this time I paid a similar amount but for a refurbished "as new" one from Dyson eBay with code.
It arrived completely clean and sealed in plastic. No issues there it runs quiet like new.
Though now I have it on a small chair above the ground because my bed is now higher so hopefully it will last a lot longer before collecting dust.
I still use the older one in the study room.

    • Although you can't see it from the pictures the fan also has some manual angle up/down adjustment as well as the auto oscillating.

  • We have a Dyson Am07 tower fan that we essentially got for free. Yes it looks nice but from on Max speed, it's noisier than my $5 pedestal fan I got from a officeworks clearance. I wouldn't personally buy one for the retail price

  • I bought a used Dyson tower fan after my cheap tower fan died. It works similarly to the tower fan I had but looks nicer, is infinitely easier to clean than a tower fan, and doesn't get in the way like a cheap flimsy kmart/bunnings standing fan which makes a difference in a smaller room.

    *looks is subjective

  • Thanks everyone for all your replies, really grateful

Dyson fans are just a gimmick. It looks nice and it's got the price tag to go with it, but functionality is shit.

  • If you want it to function well as a fan and be quiet, look elsewhere

  • $500 for a fan. 🤣

    • There's a market for $2,000 iPhones too.
