Telling Insurance Company about Crash

Just wondering guys
Got in accident at work with work fleet car. They got my diving licence number down and using work insurance -relatively small issue. Just wondering if I have to notify my own budget direct car insurance of accident?

Thanks

  • If they got your diving license only you will be fine !

But seriously with fleet vehicles It shouldn't matter

  • Just be careful when you renew your own insurance, some of them have questions asking if you've been in an accident the prior year

    • they also share info between insurance companies..

      • which is a good reason to be careful, yes. you don't want to get caught fibbing to an insurance company!

        • it would pretty much void any policy you have with them

They got my diving licence number

At least they didn't get your the drivers licence number.

  • budget won't help ya

Try reading your PDS… it will probably say you need to notify them of anything of concern…. an accident would fall into that slot.

Mates son was asked for copy of his driving record on a claim once, dont know if accidents come up on that.

  • You can call them anonymous and ask. Hide you number. Some insurance word questions such as "have you been involved in an accident over the last 5 years?" Then the answer is "yes" But check the PDS.

  • I'm in a similar situation but with house insurance.

I recently made a claim on an investment property, and now I'm doing my yearly re-apply for new-but-same home insurance policy (for my primary residence) to get the lower price. One of the question is 'have you made any claims…', and if I select 'yes', then the quote for the same policy items is a lot higher.

Almost just thinking of carrying through the existing policy with the indexed premium as it's cheaper than the new quote with claim history. Will have to double check PDS if it's required to disclose any (external or other) claims even though none were made against my primary and active policy.

    • You can try other insurance companies and declare the claim. You'll be surprised that the premium will be less. Loyalty doesn't exist anymore

  • Have you been in an at fault crash? Yes.
Have you made a claim? No.

Never lie, do not offer the information unless you are renewing.

  • In the last 3 years has the main driver had any car related claims, driver licence suspensions, cancellations, disqualifications or restrictions?
