What Is The Cheapest Way to a Get Car for a Driving Licence Test in Sydney?

I am trying to give NSW driver licence test. The test is booked and now I am looking to book a car for that day.

I had a look at and it is $200.
I was wondering what would be the cheapest way to get a car for the test.

Also, I don't know anyone in Sydney that has car so can't ask any relative or friends for car.

  • If you don't have any relatives/friends and you don't have car, how did you get the requisite hours on your learners to sit for this test? Did someone fudge their log sheets?

Sounds pretty alright for what you're getting.

    • I have International Driving License so i did not need to fill the log sheets.

I was just try to check if this price was ozbargain approved :)

      • Makes sense.

Looking at what they're offering, $200 gets you quite a bit of value IMO

As you don't know anyone with a car, your best option might be through a Driving Lessons Company (such as the one you listed).

The driving instructors usually gives you tip and tricks and outline the driving routes for the actual test.

    • Yea feels like that is the best option right now and it might help me pass the test as well. Thank you

The driving instructors usually gives you tip and tricks and outline the driving route for the actual test.

This is quite important, depending on the test centre they have a few different routes and some have harder 'traps' than others e.g. reverse parking in a street with a steep roll off into the gutter vs a more flat road.

The Driving lesson company can help you be more aware of them for your test.

      • hmm… now I am thinking I will do some lessons before going for actual test.

I have booked my test Chatswood. 🤞

    $200
    Driving test package includes:

Pick-up 1hr prior to test start time
    45 min pre-test warm up
Use of instructors vehicle to sit the test
Drop-off after the test result is received

so not just car hire for the time…. Sounds like good value to me.
these dudes know the routes and what little tricks the testers look for ….

Good price and good luck :)

The one you got sound quite good value.
You could hire a car for less for a day if your international license is still valid. If you do this, just make sure the it can be used for the license ans the speedo needs to be viewable by the evaluator etc.

  • I thought you also needed to bring a sponsor/supervisor to the driving test … so if you fail, they can drive the car home.

You can probably get a cheaper car, but but if you don't know anyone to supervise you probably need to use a driving school.

    • Not only if you fail. It's also recommended they drive you home in case you're so excited about getting your Ps, you accidentally crash the car.

  • Uber???

  • If you don't have access to a car, why do you need to sit the test?

    • once I have license I can buy or rent a car.

  • $200 is like two tanks of petrol these days. If you can't afford that, how are you going to afford a car?

    • I am getting license so that in case of emergency I can quickly rent a car. I dont think I can afford the car right away but doing my best to at least be prepared.

I was asking here to get the best offer and advice from experienced people.

  • Many years ago you could hire a ute from a petrol station for 4 hours for $50. Prices will have gone up and not even sure if this is still a thing.

Otherwise hire any normal cheap car for the day and after the test, learn to drift.
